- Repair the affected game’s prerequisites, including the correct Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable.
- Reinstall the EA app or the affected game if the path contains

Documented copies have appeared with older games including Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition and HAWKEN, and in an EA/Origin x64 installation. The file is not unique to one product, so the full error path matters more than the filename alone.

What causes the error

The filename strongly suggests an older Twitch native game-streaming SDK release, but the exact historical package and publisher identity are not established for every copy. Do not use a generic file listing to identify the correct version, size, hash, or product.
1. Identify the owning game or launcher
Before changing anything, read the complete path in the error dialog.
Examples of useful clues include:
- A Steam game folder
- A game directory containing
BinariesWin64 - An EA or Origin path containing
Originx64 - A folder beside the game’s main executable
- A launcher cache or installation directory
To locate the file manually:
- Press Windows key + E.
- Select This PC.
- In the search box, enter
twitchsdk_64_release.dll. - Wait for the search to finish.
- Right-click any result and select Open file location.
- Note the parent folder and the executable or launcher beside it.
The normal location is the application’s own directory, not System32 or SysWOW64. A separate twitchsdk_32_release.dll may appear in indexes or old installations, but the two files are not interchangeable.
If the path identifies a game, repair that game first. If it identifies an EA or Origin directory, repair the EA app and then the affected game.
2. Repair a Steam game
Steam’s file verification restores missing or corrupted content from the game’s own depot. It is safer than copying an isolated DLL because it restores the matching build and companion files.
- Open Steam.
- Select Library.
- Right-click the affected game.
- Select Properties.
- Select Installed Files.
- Select Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait for the process to finish.
- Restart Steam.
- Launch the game again.
A successful repair normally reports that validation is complete. Steam may download replacement content. If the file returns and the game starts, the installation was the problem.

- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an entry involving the game folder or DLL.
- Do not restore or allow it automatically.
- Confirm that the file came from the legitimate Steam installation and that your security provider considers the detection safe.
- Run the game’s verification again after resolving the quarantine event.
Repeated replacement can also indicate disk errors, cleanup software, or a damaged game library. Move or reinstall the game to a known-good drive if the problem continues.
3. Repair an EA app or Origin installation
Origin has been retired. Current EA installations use the EA app, although old error messages and paths may still mention Origin.

For an installed EA game:
- Open the EA app.
- Select Library.
- Select the affected game.
- Select the three-dot menu on the game tile.
- Choose Repair.
- Wait for the scan and download to finish.
- Restart the EA app.
- Launch the game.
If the EA app itself will not start or shows launcher errors:
- Open the EA app menu.
- Select Help.
- Select App Recovery.
- Select Clear cache.
- Restart Windows.
- Open the EA app and try Repair again.
If repair does not restore the file, uninstall the EA app from Settings → Apps → Installed apps, download the current installer from EA’s official site, and reinstall it. Then repair the game again.

4. Check antivirus quarantine
Antivirus software can remove an old game component even when the rest of the installation is intact.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Expand recent detections.
- Check whether the affected game or launcher directory is mentioned.
- Record the detection name and file path.
- Restore or allow the file only after confirming that it came from the legitimate, intact installation and that the security vendor has cleared it.
- Run Steam verification or EA Repair again.
Do not permanently disable antivirus protection just to make the game start. If testing requires a temporary change, use only the relevant game folder, keep the test controlled, and restore protection immediately afterward.
If the file is quarantined again, stop restoring it and investigate the detection, the game installer, and the launcher logs.
5. Repair Microsoft Visual C++ dependencies
“The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that twitchsdk_64_release.dll itself is absent. Windows may be unable to load one of its dependent native libraries.
Install or repair the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable from Microsoft’s official Latest Supported Visual C++ Redistributable Downloads page.
For a 64-bit game, start with:
vc_redist.x64.exe
A 32-bit launcher or helper may also require:
vc_redist.x86.exe
The architecture must match the application, not merely the version of Windows. Older games may require an older Microsoft redistributable listed on the same Microsoft page, including legacy releases.

After installing:
- Restart Windows.
- Run the game’s Steam verification or EA Repair again.
- Launch the game.
- If the same error remains, inspect the full path and launcher logs rather than downloading another DLL.
Installing both official architectures can be reasonable when a game uses both 64-bit and 32-bit components. It does not make arbitrary copies of this file interchangeable.

Use this step when other Windows programs also report damaged components, system files, or servicing errors. These commands do not normally restore a third-party game DLL.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run this command first:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Repair the affected game again.
Microsoft recommends DISM before SFC. If SFC reports that it repaired files, restart and test. If it reports that it could not repair some files, run DISM again, restart, and repeat SFC once. The game’s own installer remains the definitive source for twitchsdk_64_release.dll.

Check the relevant driver through Windows:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters for graphics drivers.
- Expand System devices for chipset-related devices.
- Right-click the relevant device.
- Select Update driver.
- Select Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
For a clean vendor-controlled update, use the graphics or motherboard manufacturer’s official support page. Do not use Device Manager to replace the game DLL.

Do not run:
regsvr32 twitchsdk_64_release.dll
regsvr32 is for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. A native game or streaming SDK library is not automatically a COM server, and registration will not install its missing dependencies.
Do not copy the file to:
C:WindowsSystem32C:WindowsSysWOW64- Another game’s folder
- A global Windows directory
That can create DLL search-order problems, introduce the wrong architecture, and hide the real installation damage.

Do not download a random replacement from a DLL archive. It may contain malware, belong to another game build, have the wrong architecture, or lack the companion libraries required by the application. The safe sources are the game’s official launcher, the EA app, Steam’s own content servers, Microsoft’s official redistributable downloads, and the original developer’s installer.
9. When the file exists but still will not load
If File Explorer shows the DLL but the error remains:

- Confirm that the path belongs to the application you are launching.
- Check whether the application is 64-bit.
- Run the launcher’s repair or verification process.
- Check Protection history for a dependent file, not only the named DLL.
- Review Event Viewer:
- Press Windows key + X.
- Select Event Viewer.
- Open Windows Logs → Application.
- Check entries created at the time of the crash.
- Review the launcher’s own logs.
- Reinstall the affected VC++ runtime.
- Reinstall the game if repair repeatedly fails.
A “not designed to run on Windows” message or 0xc000012f often points to a damaged file, wrong architecture, or incompatible dependency. Replacing the DLL alone is unlikely to correct that combination.
10. Last-resort recovery
If the problem began immediately after a software update and no clean installer remains:
- Back up saved games and configuration files.
- Uninstall the affected game or launcher.
- Restart Windows.
- Remove only the leftover installation folder after confirming your saves are backed up.
- Reinstall from the official launcher.
- Apply the launcher’s latest updates.
- Launch once before restoring optional mods or overlays.
System Restore is a last resort when the failure follows a recent system change and the original installer is unavailable. It is not a replacement for repairing the owning game.
