A twitter.dll error usually means the application that installed this plugin is incomplete, not that Windows itself is missing a system file. The safest fix is to identify the parent application from its path, then repair or reinstall that application instead of downloading a replacement DLL.
What this file actually does
twitter.dll is an application plugin. The filename is not unique to one product, so Windows cannot tell you which program owns it from the filename alone.

The strongest documented connection is to the legacy Logitech Webcam Software Gallery component. Logitech Webcam Software included Twitter one-touch uploading through its Gallery. A documented Logitech path is:

Public file inventory information associates this copy with Logitech and a 32-bit LWS installation, but Logitech does not publish a current standalone manifest for the DLL. Logitech Webcam Software is legacy software, and its current product page may not provide an installer.

The same filename can belong to other applications. Miranda NG documents Twitter.dll as a protocol plugin, although that plugin is no longer developed because Twitter stopped supporting the API used by Miranda. VWorks documentation also identifies Twitter.dll as a notification plugin. Therefore, reinstalling Logitech software is correct only when your error belongs to Logitech Webcam Software.
twitter.dll is not a Windows system DLL. It does not belong automatically to Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET. Do not copy it into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64.

Fix 1: Identify the application that owns twitter.dll
Do this before downloading anything or changing Windows system folders.

Search the normal application folders
- Press Windows key + X.
- Select Terminal (Admin) or Windows PowerShell (Admin).
- Select Yes if User Account Control appears.
- Paste this command:
Get-ChildItem -Path "C:Program Files (x86)","C:Program Files" `
-Filter twitter.dll -Recurse -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue |
Select-Object FullName,Length,LastWriteTime
- Press Enter.
- Examine the
FullNameresult.
Look for the parent folder:
logishrdLWSPluginspoints toward Logitech Webcam Software.Miranda NGPluginspoints toward Miranda NG.- A VWorks installation directory points toward VWorks.
- A game or launcher directory means that product owns its own copy.
System32,SysWOW64, a temporary folder, or a download folder is not a normal generic location for this plugin.
If the command returns nothing, the file may have been deleted or quarantined. Record the exact program named in the error and continue with that program’s repair process.
Check the executable path
If the error appears when opening a shortcut:
- Right-click the shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Shortcut tab.
- Read the Target field.
- Note the application folder shown there.
For an application already running:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Details.
- Right-click the relevant executable.
- Choose Open file location.
The executable and twitter.dll should normally belong to the same product family. A 32-bit Logitech component commonly resides under Program Files (x86), even on 64-bit Windows.
Fix 2: Reinstall Logitech Webcam Software
Use this fix when the error appears with Logitech Webcam Software, or when the file path contains Common FileslogishrdLWSPlugins.
Logitech’s documented procedure is to remove LWS, restart if required, unplug the webcam, download the software for the specific webcam and operating system, and run the setup wizard. Because LWS is legacy software, the current Logitech page may show that no download is available.

- Disconnect the Logitech webcam from the computer.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
appwiz.cpl
- Press Enter.
- Select Logitech Webcam Software in the installed-program list.
- Select Uninstall or Change.
- Follow the removal wizard.
- Restart Windows if the wizard requests it.
- Open the official Logitech support page for the exact webcam model.
- Select the Windows version and check whether an LWS installer is available.
- Download only the installer supplied for that webcam and operating system.
- Run the installer.
- Reconnect the webcam when the installer or Logitech instructions indicate that it is appropriate.
- Restart Windows.
- Open Logitech Webcam Software and test the feature that previously produced the error.
A successful repair means the application opens without the loader message. If the Gallery opens but Twitter uploading no longer works, that may reflect the obsolete service rather than a missing local DLL. You can remove the old parent application if you no longer use its Gallery features.
If Logitech no longer supplies an installer, do not replace twitter.dll from an unrelated download source. Look for the original installer supplied with the webcam or an existing verified installation backup. The file must come from the same product and belong in the same application directory.
Fix 3: Repair the other application named in the error
If the path identifies Miranda NG, VWorks, or another product, do not install Logitech Webcam Software merely because the filename matches.
Miranda NG
For a Miranda NG installation:
- Close Miranda NG.
- Open the Miranda NG installation folder.
- Open its
Pluginsfolder. - Check whether
Twitter.dllis present. - Start Miranda NG and review its plugin settings.
- Disable the Twitter plugin if you do not need it.
- If the plugin is missing or damaged, use the original Miranda NG installer or its supported update method to restore the matching plugin.
Because the Miranda Twitter plugin is no longer developed, reinstalling it may not restore Twitter connectivity. Removing or disabling the plugin can be the appropriate fix if Miranda NG works otherwise.
VWorks or another application
For VWorks or another product:
- Close the application.
- Open Settings with Windows key + I.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Search for the parent application.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Uninstall if no repair option is available.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the original vendor installer or your organization’s approved installer.
- Open the application and repeat the action that caused the error.
Some launchers provide Verify files, Repair, or Scan and repair instead of a traditional reinstall. Use that feature when it is available. It restores files to the application’s own directory and avoids mixing plugins from different products.
Fix 4: Check Windows Security quarantine
An antivirus quarantine can explain why the application worked previously and then began reporting a missing DLL.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
twitter.dll. - Expand the event and inspect the original file path.
- Compare that path with the application directory you identified earlier.
Restore or allow the file only if all of these are true:

- The file was originally inside the legitimate parent application folder.
- You recognize the parent application.
- The installer or backup came from the vendor or another trusted source.
- A current Windows Security scan does not identify broader malware activity.
For an old, unsigned, or unexplained copy, do not restore it simply because the filename matches. Reinstalling the parent application is safer.
After restoring a verified file, start the application again. If Windows Security immediately quarantines it again, stop restoring it and run a full scan. A DLL found unexpectedly in System32, a temporary directory, or a download folder should be treated as suspicious.
Fix 5: Check whether the DLL or its dependency is missing
The message wording matters. “The program cannot start because twitter.dll is missing” usually indicates that the named file is absent. “The specified module could not be found” can also mean that twitter.dll exists but one of its dependencies does not.
First, reinstall or repair the parent application. That is the most reliable way to restore the complete group of files, including twitter_core.dll in the documented Logitech layout.
If the error names another file, troubleshoot that file instead. Examples include:
vcruntime140.dllmsvcp140.dll- A specific DirectX file
Only install the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable when the diagnostic identifies a Visual C++ runtime. Microsoft provides separate vc_redist.x86.exe and vc_redist.x64.exe packages. A 32-bit application requires the x86 package, even when Windows itself is 64-bit. Both architectures can be installed side by side.
Do not install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET as a generic response to a missing Logitech plugin when the error does not identify one of those components.

Fix 6: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Use these commands when Windows itself is behaving incorrectly or another diagnostic suggests damaged system components. They normally will not recreate a deleted third-party Logitech plugin.
- Open the Start menu.
- Type Terminal.
- Right-click Windows Terminal.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the application again.
If SFC reports that it repaired files, restart and retest. If it reports that it could not repair some files, repeat the application reinstall rather than copying twitter.dll into a Windows folder.
Repeatedly running SFC and DISM without knowing what changed can make troubleshooting harder. A webcam driver usually does not restore twitter.dll, but a damaged driver can cause Logitech Webcam Software to fail for additional reasons.
- Right-click the Start button.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Cameras or Imaging devices.
- Right-click the Logitech webcam.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Check the driver status and date.
- Select Update Driver if Windows reports a driver problem.
- If the device is disabled, right-click it and choose Enable device.
- Restart Windows and test the camera.
Use the exact webcam model’s official Logitech support page for a compatible driver or application package. Do not register or copy this DLL manually
Do not run:
regsvr32 twitter.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. An ordinary application plugin is not automatically registerable. This command can produce an entry-point error and will not repair a missing Logitech component.

Manual copying is appropriate only when you have a verified original file from the same installer and know the exact application directory expected by that application. Copying it to System32, SysWOW64, or a global Windows directory is not a valid generic repair and can create DLL search-path problems.
Avoid random DLL download websites and “DLL fixer” utilities. A downloaded file may contain malware, target the wrong application, use the wrong architecture, or fail because another dependency is missing. Use the parent application’s official installer, the official Logitech support page for the webcam, or the original trusted installation media instead.
Last resort: System Restore
Use System Restore only after checking the application path, quarantine history, and reinstall options.

- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point from before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs.
- Review the changes.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
Afterward, test the parent application. System Restore may remove a recent application update, so reinstall the application if the error returns.
Frequently asked questions
Is twitter.dll a Windows system file?
No. It is an application plugin, and the filename is used by more than one product. The documented Logitech copy belongs under the LWS plugin directory, not a Windows system directory.
Can I download just twitter.dll?
That is not a safe general repair. The correct file must match the parent application, version, architecture, and companion files. Reinstall the application instead.
Why does Logitech Webcam Software need a Twitter plugin?
Its legacy Gallery included Twitter one-touch uploading. The feature may no longer be useful or functional, but a damaged LWS installation can still report the missing plugin when the Gallery starts.
What if the file is present but the error remains?
A dependency may be missing. Reinstall the parent application first. If the message names a Visual C++ runtime or another specific DLL, troubleshoot that named component rather than twitter.dll.

Not as a default response. Use Windows Features only when the application specifically identifies a missing Windows feature. There is no verified evidence that enabling .NET or installing DirectX directly repairs the Logitech twitter.dll plugin.
When should I stop troubleshooting?
If you no longer use Logitech Webcam Software’s Gallery or the obsolete Twitter feature, uninstalling the parent application may be preferable. If every repair fails, record the application name, executable path, full error text, Windows version, DLL path, architecture, and whether antivirus quarantine or an uninstall preceded the failure.
