Tyson Bagent’s clearest NFL comparison point is his 2023 season, when he made four starts for Chicago. Case Keenum has far more NFL experience, while Miller Moss’s cited production is from college, not the NFL. Those differences in league level, workload and role matter more than a simple ranking: the available numbers do not establish who is the better quarterback today.
Who is on the Bears’ quarterback roster?
The Chicago Bears roster page lists Caleb Williams, Bagent and Keenum as active quarterbacks, with Moss on the practice squad. The team’s 2026 quarterback preview describes Bagent as the No. 2 quarterback since he joined the team in 2023. These are roster and role snapshots, not permanent assignments; check the Bears roster and current team reporting for the latest status.
Availability can change the immediate backup picture. In a report published September 23, 2026, the Bears said Williams had a hamstring injury and Bagent had sustained a concussion after entering the game against Minnesota. The team said Keenum would start if both were unable to play. That report reflects availability at that time, not an ongoing health update. Read the Bears’ report for its dated context.
How do Bagent, Keenum and Moss compare?
| Quarterback | Experience or role in the cited sources | Production cited | What the figures can tell you |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tyson Bagent | Four starts in five appearances during the 2023 regular season; the Bears’ 2026 preview says he has been the No. 2 since arriving in 2023. | In 2023: 94 completions on 143 attempts, 859 passing yards, three passing touchdowns and six interceptions; 109 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. NFL.com’s career page, through its 2026 entry, lists 971 passing yards, three passing touchdowns, six interceptions and 109 rushing yards. | The 2023 season is his main NFL sample. The Bears say he attempted only six passes across 2024 and 2025, so those spot appearances do not amount to another full-season starting sample. |
| Case Keenum | 80 NFL games and 66 starts over 12 seasons, as reported in the Bears’ 2026 preview. | 15,175 passing yards, 79 touchdowns, 51 interceptions, a 62.3% completion rate and an 84.6 passer rating, per that preview. | His career record establishes a large experience gap, but it spans different teams and seasons and does not predict his performance in Chicago’s current offense. |
| Miller Moss | Undrafted rookie; previously backed up Caleb Williams at USC, then played at Louisville. | College production cited by the Bears: 2,555 passing yards and 18 touchdowns at USC in 2024; 2,679 yards and 16 touchdowns at Louisville in 2025. Comparable NFL regular-season production is not stated in the cited sources. | These college numbers describe a different level of football and should not be compared directly with Bagent’s NFL line. |

What makes the comparison fair?
Separate NFL experience from college production
Keenum’s 66 career starts give him substantially more NFL game experience than Bagent’s four starts in 2023. Moss’s cited passing totals came in college, so they are background on his development rather than an NFL-to-NFL comparison. The Bears’ numbers show different kinds of evidence, not interchangeable measures of present ability.
Keep workload beside production
Bagent’s 2023 line—859 passing yards, three passing touchdowns and six interceptions—comes from 143 attempts and four starts. That context helps readers understand the sample. His six attempts across 2024 and 2025, as reported in the Bears’ 2026 preview, are too few to treat those seasons as equivalent starting evaluations.

Include rushing, but do not imply a complete comparison
Bagent added 109 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns in 2023. The cited material does not provide a matching, same-context rushing breakdown for Keenum and Moss, so those figures show one part of Bagent’s profile rather than proving an advantage over the others.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What can you conclude about the Bears’ backups?
The documented contrast is clearest on experience and level of evidence: Keenum has the largest NFL résumé, Bagent has a short but meaningful 2023 NFL starting sample, and Moss’s cited production is collegiate. Roster position and injuries affect who may be called on at a particular moment, but neither a roster listing nor a brief sample is a controlled measure of quarterback ability.
