It did not confirm that they were remaking the 1995 original: that description, and the reported codename “Project Steambot,” came from outside reporting. Since then, Ubisoft has announced Rayman Legends Retold, a separate, explicitly described reimagining of the 2013 game. Ubisoft has not publicly established that the two projects are the same.
What Ubisoft confirmed in 2024
In a statement reproduced by Kotaku on October 23, 2024, Ubisoft said Ubisoft Montpellier and Ubisoft Milan had “recently started an exploration phase on the Rayman brand.” The company added that the project was “still in its early stages” and that it would share more details later. The wording confirms early work involving the brand, not a specific game, scope, release commitment, or launch window.

Ubisoft also said Michel Ancel, creator of the Rayman brand, was being consulted “to ensure consistency within the universe.” The report did not establish that Ancel was directing or leading the project, or define the precise scope of his consultation.
Why reports called it a remake
The claim that the project would remake the original 1995 Rayman, along with the “Project Steambot” codename, was attributed to prior reporting by Insider Gaming, as GameSpot’s October 24, 2024 coverage also explained. Those details were not part of Ubisoft’s quoted confirmation. Until Ubisoft identifies the project and its scope, “Rayman remake” remains a reported description rather than an officially confirmed title or plan.

What Ubisoft announced in 2026
On June 2, 2026, Ubisoft announced Rayman Legends Retold as a reimagining of Rayman Legends, the 2013 platformer. Ubisoft named Montpellier and Milan as the teams leading it. That makes it a concrete new Rayman project, but Ubisoft’s announcement does not say it is the same project as the early-stage 2024 exploration.
Ubisoft announced an October 1, 2026 launch for Ubisoft+, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, GeForce Now, Blacknut, and PC through Ubisoft Connect, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. That date has passed, but the announcement alone does not verify that the game launched as scheduled or that it is currently available in a particular store or region. Check the relevant live platform listing for current availability and price.

Brand Producer Loïc Gounon described the project as a way to revisit and retell the experience for a new generation, while preserving what fans value and expanding the game’s lore and world connections. What Rayman releases Ubisoft lists for 2026
Rayman: 30th Anniversary Edition is another officially listed release, distinct from both the reported remake and Legends Retold. Ubisoft’s edition page lists February 13, 2026 as its release date and names PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. It describes five versions of the original game, more than 120 additional levels, and an interactive documentary. These are Ubisoft’s stated edition features; the date and platform list do not establish current availability in every market.
The two 2026 announcements revisit different parts of the series: Legends Retold reimagines the 2013 game, while the Anniversary Edition packages versions of the original. Their announced platforms and contents differ, so check the edition and platform listing before buying.

What remains unknown about the reported remake
Ubisoft has not, in the quoted 2024 confirmation or the cited 2026 announcements, identified the early exploration as a remake of the 1995 game, confirmed “Project Steambot” as its codename, announced a release window, or disclosed its budget or staffing. Nor has it publicly connected that exploration to Rayman Legends Retold. The firmest answer is therefore limited: Ubisoft confirmed early exploration of the Rayman brand in 2024, and later announced a separate, specifically named reimagining of Legends.
