Ubisoft’s January 21, 2026 reset canceled six games, including the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, and gave seven others more development time. The company also announced organizational restructuring and selective studio closures, but the available reports do not establish a single final company-wide job-loss total. A later proposal affecting up to 200 positions at its French headquarters was not a confirmed layoff count.
What Ubisoft announced
On January 21, 2026, Ubisoft described a major organizational, operational and portfolio reset. It set out three parts: a new operating model, a more focused portfolio guided by a revised three-year roadmap, and a smaller organization. CEO Yves Guillemot said the changes were intended to create conditions for a return to sustainable growth; that is Ubisoft’s stated objective, not a demonstrated outcome. Ubisoft’s announcement
The company cited a more selective AAA market, intense competition in shooters, rising development costs and the difficulty of building brands when costs are higher. Those are Ubisoft’s explanations for the reset.
Which games were canceled?
Ubisoft said it discontinued six games in development because they did not meet its heightened quality standards and more selective portfolio criteria. Only one was named: the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake.

The other five were described as four unannounced projects—three of them new intellectual properties—and one mobile game. Ubisoft did not identify them, so rumors or guesses about their identities should not be treated as confirmed cancellations. Ubisoft’s announcement
The Sands of Time remake
The remake is canceled; it is not an upcoming product to buy or pre-order. The team said it did not want to release a version that fell short of what the game represents, and that meeting the expected quality would have required more time and investment than it could responsibly commit. PC Gamer

Which games were delayed?
Seven games received additional development time to meet quality benchmarks and maximize long-term value. Ubisoft did not name those titles. It did say that one unannounced game originally planned for FY2025–26 was moved to FY2026–27. That timing refers to Ubisoft’s fiscal-year labels; the announcement does not identify the game or give a revised release date. Ubisoft’s announcement
These are separate decisions: six projects were discontinued, while seven remained in development with more time. No individual delayed game can be identified from the announcement.

How Ubisoft plans to reorganize its studios
The new model is built around five Creative Houses, supported by a Creative Network of studios, shared Core Services and a reshaped headquarters. Ubisoft described each Creative House as an integrated unit responsible for development and go-to-market work, with accountability for its brands, content strategy, editorial direction and financial performance. The company said the model would begin operating in early April 2026. Ubisoft’s announcement
| Creative House remit | Examples Ubisoft assigned |
|---|---|
| Vantage Studios | Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry and Rainbow Six |
| Shooters | The Division, Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell |
| Live experiences | Live-experience games and brands |
| Fantasy and narrative worlds | Fantasy and narrative games |
| Casual and family games | Casual and family titles |
The announcement described the last three remits by category rather than assigning named franchises in the available details. It did not connect the unnamed canceled or delayed games to any particular Creative House.

What is known about developer job cuts?
Ubisoft said it would continue restructuring and selectively close studios, alongside its other organizational changes. Windows Central reported closures in Halifax and Stockholm and cuts affecting Massive Entertainment, Ubisoft Abu Dhabi and RedLynx. The cited announcement and reporting do not provide one complete, final tally of jobs lost across the company. Ubisoft’s announcement Windows Central
The proposed French-headquarters agreement
A later report said Ubisoft International proposed seeking a voluntary mutual termination agreement that could affect up to 200 positions at its French headquarters. Ubisoft said the proposal was not final: it would require a collective agreement with employee representatives and validation by French authorities. It concerned Ubisoft International employees working under French contracts, not Ubisoft staff worldwide. The figure is a potential maximum attached to a proposal, not 200 confirmed layoffs. Cost-cutting targets and what they mean
Ubisoft set a target to reduce its fixed-cost base by an additional €200 million over two years. It said this was part of a total fixed-cost reduction of around €500 million since FY2022–23. These are company targets and a company-reported historical total, not independently audited results established by the announcement. Ubisoft’s announcement
Guillemot called the decisions difficult but necessary to build a more focused, efficient and sustainable organization. The announcement explains Ubisoft’s intended direction; it does not establish whether the cancellations, delays, cost reductions or new structure will deliver that result.
