Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Ubisoft says Rainbow Six Siege’s anti-cheat systems failed to keep pace with cheating after Siege X moved to Free Access. In an October 8, 2025 update, the company announced plans to improve detection targeting prominent cheat makers and users of a notorious cheat product, disrupt marketplace exploits, and permanently ban players caught exploiting the marketplace. Ubisoft did not name the cheat product or disclose its detection methods, and the post describes priorities—not confirmation that every planned measure has since launched.
What Ubisoft announced in October 2025
Game director Joshua Mills and creative director Alex Karpazis acknowledged the problem directly: “Our systems in Siege X did not keep pace with the surge of cheaters that followed the move to Free Access, though we have made some progress.” Their October 8, 2025 community update set out three priorities:
- Improve detection aimed at high-profile cheat makers and users of a notorious cheat product. Ubisoft did not identify that product or explain how detection will work.
- Disrupt marketplace exploits. The stated target is exploitation of the marketplace, not all marketplace use.
- Permanently ban players caught using marketplace exploits. This is a specific enforcement commitment, not a blanket statement that every marketplace violation or suspicious transaction results in a ban.
Ubisoft said it was withholding operational details because disclosing them could help cheat makers evade detection. The update does not establish that each October initiative was subsequently deployed.
How the different anti-cheat measures work
Ubisoft’s posts describe separate measures for different behaviors. They should not be read as one universal rule or penalty.

| Platform or area | Behavior targeted | Trigger or status | Consequence described by Ubisoft |
|---|---|---|---|
| PC and game security | Cheat software and attempts to tamper with game code | ShieldGuard hardening introduced in Y10S1; continued security updates planned alongside patches and hotfixes | Hardening is intended to make the game code more robust against cheat makers; no specific player penalty is given for this measure |
| Accounts | Accounts linked to previously banned cheaters; knowingly squadding with cheaters | Tools and accountability systems described as in development in August 2025 | Ubisoft said suspicious linked accounts would be removed and players knowingly squadding with cheaters held accountable; the update did not specify a fixed penalty |
| Console | Devices that spoof mouse-and-keyboard input | MouseTrap detects repeat spoofing; the Y9S4 update describes the consequence after three detections | Forced into PC matchmaking with PC recoil enabled for 90 days |
| Any match where a cheater is identified | A cheater in a live match | The cheater is kicked after a ban is issued | Cheater Match Cancellation lets the match be cancelled for everyone |
| Gameplay enforcement | Botting | First offense under the rule described in the Y9S4 update | Permanent ban |
| Marketplace | Marketplace exploits | October 2025 announcement; operational details not disclosed | Ubisoft said players caught using exploits would be permanently banned |
The ShieldGuard information comes from Ubisoft’s May 2025 Y10S1 update. The account tools and marketplace announcement are in Ubisoft’s August 2025 Y10S2 update and October 2025 community post. MouseTrap, match cancellation, and the botting penalty are described in Ubisoft’s February 2025 Y9S4 update.
What the published numbers do—and do not—show
Ubisoft has shared ban and report figures, but they measure different things over different periods. None is a census of every active cheater.

- Reported matches after Siege X: Ubisoft said the share of matches with a player receiving at least four cheater reports rose from an average of 1.8% to 2.5% after Siege X launched. This is a measure of reports in matches, not the share of matches confirmed to contain a cheater.
- ShieldGuard bans: Ubisoft reported more than 6,500 R6 ShieldGuard permanent bans in March in its May 2025 Y10S1 update.
- Monthly bans: In its August 2025 Y10S2 update, Ubisoft reported an average of more than 11,000 permanent bans per month since Operation Prep Phase, and noted an additional ban wave in early August.
- Cheater reports over time: Ubisoft’s February 2025 Y9S4 update said PC cheater reports had fallen by more than 40% from summer 2024 highs and by upwards of 30% year over year. These are changes in reports, not independently verified changes in the total number of cheaters.
Ban totals, reported-match shares, and changes in reports cannot be compared as though they counted the same population or outcome.
What players can do now
Ubisoft says in-game reports feed automated systems and manual review. Its August 2025 update also strongly recommended two-factor authentication, particularly through an authenticator app. These steps support reporting and account security; they do not guarantee a particular enforcement outcome.

What remains undisclosed
Ubisoft has not named the notorious cheat product referenced in October 2025 or explained its planned detection techniques. Nor does that announcement confirm that its marketplace-exploit enforcement, detection improvements, and related account tools have all been implemented. The company’s older 2021 anti-cheat explainer provides historical background on a layered approach, but it should not be treated as a complete description of the current system.
