Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six Siege Was Reportedly Hacked Again—What Players Need to Know

Rainbow Six Siege reportedly suffered a second unauthorized incident after the December 2025 attack. Ubisoft restored inventories and said there was no indication that player data or source code was compromised.

Rainbow Six Siege was reportedly hit by another unauthorized incident around January 5, 2026, following a larger cyberattack that began on December 27, 2025. Players reported bogus ban messages, altered account states, and renewed server disruption. Ubisoft later described the events as a cyberattack, said affected inventories had been restored, and said there was no indication that player personal data or source code had been compromised.

That statement is not the same as a publicly released, independent forensic report. The exact attack method, the identity of those responsible, and the relationship between the December and January incidents remain undisclosed.

What “hacked again” means in this case

The phrase does not currently establish that Ubisoft’s entire corporate network was breached or that a database of player information was stolen. The public evidence points more specifically to unauthorized manipulation of Rainbow Six Siege’s live-service systems, accounts, inventories, bans, transactions, and in-game economy.

There appear to have been two related periods of disruption:

  • December 27, 2025: Ubisoft acknowledged an incident affecting Siege. The game and Marketplace were taken offline while the company investigated and rolled back affected transactions.
  • January 5, 2026: Players and specialist gaming outlets reported further suspicious activity, including bogus ban notifications and manipulated account states. Public information does not establish whether this was a separate intrusion, continued access, or exploitation of the same weakness.

Ubisoft’s later description of the incident is available in its Year 11 player-protection update.

What happened during the first incident?

Reports from late December described accounts receiving unusually large amounts of R6 Credits or other currency, rare or unexpected inventory changes, abnormal Marketplace activity, and unexplained bans or unbans. Siege servers and the Marketplace went offline as Ubisoft investigated, and affected transactions were rolled back.

Coverage from PCGamesN and PC Gamer reported the player-facing effects, including claims of billions of credits and unusual item activity. Those reports describe what players saw; they do not establish the precise vulnerability, the attacker’s identity, or the full number of affected accounts.

What was different about the January reports?

The second reported incident focused especially on suspicious ban messages. Players described “six-seven” or “67”-style references and other apparent attempts to make unauthorized account actions look like official enforcement.

These were reported symptoms, not a complete forensic explanation. A message displayed in-game is not automatically proof of a legitimate Ubisoft sanction, nor does every suspicious message prove that the player’s Ubisoft account was stolen. The public reporting also does not prove that the January event was an entirely new breach.

For additional contemporaneous reporting, see The Escapist and PCGamesN’s report on the bogus bans.

Did Ubisoft confirm that player data was stolen?

No. Ubisoft said there was no indication that player personal data or source code had been compromised. The company also said its investigation was continuing.

The wording matters. “No indication” is a provisional statement, not a detailed public forensic report proving that no information was accessed. There is no verified basis in the available material for claims that attackers stole Ubisoft source code, exfiltrated a corporate database, or involved a particular employee.

Players should therefore distinguish between a serious compromise of game-service systems and a confirmed company-wide data breach. The first is supported by Ubisoft’s response and the reported account and economy manipulation; the second has not been established by the cited sources.

Were the bans real?

The incidents reportedly generated fake or unauthorized ban messages and account-state changes. Ubisoft’s incident communications distinguished those messages from legitimate enforcement by R6 ShieldGuard.

That means players should not assume that every ban notice connected to the incident was valid—or that every ban was fake. A genuine anti-cheat sanction and a temporary server-side error require different support procedures. Ubisoft’s separate security and enforcement work is documented in its R6 ShieldGuard and anti-toxicity update.

What happened to the currency and items?

Ubisoft rolled back affected transactions and later said player inventories had been restored. Players should not deliberately spend, transfer, sell, or exploit currency or items that appeared unexpectedly.

Ubisoft reportedly said players would not be banned merely for spending credits received during the incident. That does not make exploiting the vulnerability, account trading, botting, or other prohibited activity safe. If a rollback removed a legitimate purchase or changed an account incorrectly, retain proof of purchase and contact Ubisoft Support rather than trying to recreate the transaction.

Why is the Marketplace still closed?

The Marketplace was taken offline during the incident and remained closed afterward. Ubisoft’s explanation goes beyond a single server outage: it cited account theft, botting, credit transfers, malicious transactions, price instability, and broader economic imbalance.

In its June 30, 2026 Marketplace and economy update, Ubisoft said reopening would require rebuilding parts of the system. The planned work includes stronger account protection, improved monitoring, fraud controls, and a more sustainable economic structure.

The continued closure therefore is not, by itself, proof that personal data was stolen. It reflects both incident response and the larger challenge of securing and stabilizing a player-to-player economy.

What players should do

  1. Do not use suspicious currency or items. Leave unexpected credits, skins, or transactions untouched.
  2. Change your password if you reused it on another service. Use a unique password for your Ubisoft account.
  3. Enable app-based two-factor authentication where available.
  4. Secure the linked email account. An attacker who controls that mailbox may be able to reset the Ubisoft account.
  5. Review linked platforms and account activity for connections or changes you do not recognize.
  6. Do not share, buy, sell, or trade Ubisoft accounts.
  7. Save evidence. Keep screenshots, receipts, timestamps, your platform, and relevant usernames before contacting support.
  8. Use official channels. Check the Siege service-status page and use the Ubisoft account portal or Ubisoft Support for recovery and legitimate sanction appeals.
  9. Avoid social-media “unban” services. Offers of free currency or account restoration are common phishing opportunities.

What remains unknown

  • The technical attack vector.
  • The identity of the attacker or attackers.
  • Whether the January reports represented a separate intrusion.
  • The exact number of affected accounts.
  • Whether any limited data access occurred.
  • The final forensic conclusions from Ubisoft’s investigation.

The most accurate description is therefore a reported second attack—or renewed compromise—of Rainbow Six Siege’s live-service environment, not a confirmed theft of Ubisoft’s corporate data.
