If uBlock Origin is not blocking Twitch ads, start with uBlock Origin’s Logger rather than immediately installing a script. Open the Logger, load the Twitch stream, and see whether Twitch requests are being allowed, blocked, or not seen at all. Then verify that the extension is active in memory, refresh its filter lists, remove any Twitch allowlist exception, and test again. If the problem remains, your browser may not expose the capabilities uBlock Origin needs, or Twitch may have changed its ad-delivery method.
This process separates four different problems that look identical to viewers: an inactive extension, stale or incompatible filters, an intentional allowlist rule, and an ad-delivery change that current lists do not yet cover.

Why Twitch ads can get through uBlock Origin
Seeing an advertisement does not, by itself, prove that uBlock Origin failed to block a network request. Twitch playback can be affected by a request that was allowed, a filter that is out of date, an exception for twitch.tv, a browser limitation, or a change in how Twitch delivers advertising. The fastest way to identify which case you have is to watch uBlock Origin’s own event log while the stream loads.
- Allowed request: the Logger shows a Twitch-related request that was permitted, pointing to a missing rule, an exception, or a browser capability issue.
- Blocked request but an ad still appears: investigate a cosmetic or playback symptom rather than assuming the network request was unfiltered.
- No relevant activity: the extension may be displayed in the toolbar but not actually loaded in memory.
- Intermittent success: Twitch may be changing ad delivery, or a list update may have altered the result between sessions.
Use the Logger before changing anything
The uBlock Origin troubleshooting documentation describes the Logger as the best way to see what uBlock Origin is doing while a page loads. It gives you evidence instead of a guess about why a Twitch ad appeared.

- Open the uBlock Origin popup and choose the dashboard or settings control.
- Open Logger. Leave the Logger visible in its own tab or window.
- Open Twitch, navigate to the affected channel, and start the stream. If the stream is already open, reload it while the Logger is recording.
- Filter or scan the entries for the Twitch page and requests that appear as the stream begins or when an advertisement starts.
- Note whether the relevant entry is allowed or blocked, which filter list supplied the rule, and whether the event is a document, network, or cosmetic action.
Do not judge the result from one old tab. Close the stream, reload it with the Logger running, and reproduce the problem. A clean reproduction makes it easier to tell a Twitch ad request from unrelated analytics or player activity.
Confirm that uBlock Origin is actually running
An enabled-looking toolbar icon is not proof that the extension is active in memory. The uBlock Origin guide documents cases in which the extension appeared in the browser interface but was not operating; disabling and re-enabling it corrected the state.

- Open your browser’s extensions manager. In Chromium-based browsers this is normally the extensions page; in Firefox it is the add-ons manager.
- Turn uBlock Origin off, wait a few seconds, and turn it on again.
- Return to Twitch, open a new stream tab, and reload it with the Logger open.
- If the extension cannot be enabled, disappears from the manager, or repeatedly becomes inactive, repair the browser installation or profile before changing Twitch filters.
Toggle the extension before editing rules because a filter change cannot help an extension that is not loaded. Once it is active, the Logger should record page activity as Twitch loads.
Refresh filter lists and clear stale list data
uBlock Origin’s decisions depend on the contents of its filter lists. Lists are updated independently of the extension, and an old cached copy can leave you testing rules that no longer match Twitch’s current requests.
- Open the uBlock Origin dashboard and select Filter lists.
- Use the dashboard’s control to purge old caches, then update the lists.
- Wait for the update to finish and confirm that the lists report a current update state.
- Close the Twitch tab, open the stream again, and reproduce the ad with the Logger running.
Do not assume that identical list selections behave identically in every browser or extension environment. The filter-list documentation warns that compatibility between uBlock Origin and AdGuard lists is not guaranteed across browsers and extensions. If you have added third-party lists, test the current configuration first and record which list appears in the Logger before making further changes.

A successful update does not guarantee that every Twitch ad will disappear. It only ensures that you are testing current list contents rather than a stale cache.
Check for a Twitch allowlist exception
Twitch’s help material explains how users can allowlist Twitch in an ad-blocking extension. If twitch.tv is allowlisted, ads are being permitted intentionally, so updating lists will not override that exception.
- Open the Twitch tab and click the uBlock Origin toolbar button.
- Check whether the site-level power control indicates that filtering is disabled for the current site.
- If you intentionally allowlisted Twitch, remove that exception or restore filtering for the site.
- Reload the stream and confirm in the Logger that Twitch activity is no longer being treated as allowlisted.
Also inspect any custom rules you previously added for Twitch. A broad allow rule can have the same practical effect as the site-level control. Remove or disable one custom rule at a time, reload, and use the Logger to verify the change.

Browser choice changes what uBlock Origin can do
uBlock Origin is not operating against the same extension platform in every browser. The project documents that Chrome’s change away from Manifest V2 removed capabilities on which content blockers relied. The project remains maintained, but a browser that limits those capabilities can produce different results from a browser with fuller uBlock Origin support.

When comparing browsers, evaluate full uBlock Origin support, how easily lists can be updated, behavior after Twitch ad-delivery changes, stream playback and buffering, and whether custom scripts are required. Do not treat a browser switch as proof that one filter list is universally better; the project’s documentation specifically cautions that the same lists can behave differently across browsers and extensions.

Twitch changes the methods it uses to deliver advertising. A rule that worked last month can stop matching after such a change, even when uBlock Origin is enabled and its lists are current. That is why no responsible troubleshooting guide can promise a permanent Twitch result from one filter or script.

Community workarounds deserve particular caution. A secondary report published in 2026 said ads had returned for some users and reported that TwitchAdSolutions was archived on March 5, 2026. An archived project may remain useful for historical context, but it is not a maintenance guarantee. Avoid pasting an unverified script from a forum, especially if it asks for elevated browser permissions or replaces normal filter-list updates.
If a workaround is the only reason your stream currently appears ad-free, keep a record of what it changed and be prepared to remove it when it stops working. Test the baseline configuration—active uBlock Origin, current lists, no Twitch allowlist—in the Logger before adding anything custom.
Read the Logger result and choose the next action

The Logger cannot make Twitch ads disappear by itself. Its value is diagnostic: it tells you whether to repair the extension, remove an exception, refresh lists, change browsers, or wait for a maintained rule update.

Use this order so that each test changes one meaningful variable:
- Open the uBlock Origin Logger.
- Reload the Twitch stream and capture the relevant entries.
- Confirm uBlock Origin is enabled and active in the browser’s extensions manager.
- Refresh filter lists, including purging stale cached list data first.
- Check the uBlock Origin site control and custom rules for a Twitch allowlist exception.
- Reload Twitch and compare the new Logger entries with the first test.
- If the browser limits Manifest V2 capabilities, test in an environment that provides fuller uBlock Origin support.
- If ads still appear, treat the result as a current Twitch compatibility problem rather than installing an unmaintained script.
Keep the Logger evidence from the first and final tests. That record prevents circular troubleshooting and shows whether the change came from extension state, list freshness, an exception, or the browser platform.
