Critics have been broadly positive about Ufouria: The Saga 2. Metacritic lists a critic aggregate of 77/100 based on eight reviews, as checked in 2026. Reviewers praise the game’s charm, its handmade felt-style presentation, and its relaxed pace of exploration. The most common complaints are that it is simple, easy, and that its boss fights are plain. The sample is small, so treat the score as a snapshot of a few outlets rather than a settled verdict.
What the Metacritic score does and does not tell you
The 77/100 figure is an aggregate of eight critic reviews on the Metacritic page as it was checked in 2026. Aggregate scores move as reviews are added, so the number may be different when you read this. The aggregate also flattens disagreement: it does not tell you which reviewers loved the game’s pacing and which found it too easy. For that, you need the individual reviews.

Individual outlet reviews
Nintendo Life
Nintendo Life reviewed the North American Switch version, and its review page displays a game rating of 7.8. Tom Massey’s review calls the game charming and relaxing, and its subheading, “At your leisure,” captures the pitch. The same review says that the game’s simplicity and easy bosses may disappoint some players, so the praise for its laid-back feel comes with a clear warning about challenge.
Nintendo World Report
Neal Ronaghan’s review, published February 28, 2024, gives the game 9/10. Ronaghan calls the world and the writing delightful, and says it is “a joy to toy around in this world.” The review is the most enthusiastic of the two individual reviews covered here, but it also describes the boss fights as simplistic. That is the same criticism Nintendo Life raises, so it is the one point where the two outlets clearly line up.
#1 Best Overall
- Different courses each time you play! The various stages from the original game now change randomly every time your enter, making for a fresh new challenge each time! New characters joining your crew let you reach more areas, even ones that weren't in the original game at all!
- Popoons are now a super powerful cleaning agent! A new threat... the icky Bumyon makes an appearance! The troublesome Bumyon sticks to everything and everyone and is quite the annoyance, but Hebe and crews can counteract them perfectly with their Popoons. Clean up the Bumyons that litter the planet and thwart the Utsujin's evil plans!
- Visit a world of felt and whimsy! Meet up with Ufouria’s trusty crew in Hebe’s house!
- Discover rare characters from official Ufouria art books! Read up on enemies and stories in the Collection!
- In-game text languages - English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Spanish.
Where critics agree and where they differ
Across the outlets covered here, the game’s appeal rests on atmosphere and a low-pressure way of moving through its stages. The reservations concern mechanical depth and challenge. Readers who want a demanding action platformer are likely to find the reviews less encouraging than readers who want a gentle, charming exploration game.

The visual style and how it was made
The game’s look is the element reviewers return to most. Ufouria: The Saga 2 uses a feltwork-inspired visual style. In an Xbox Wire article dated March 1, 2024, Romain Mahut, Communications Manager at Red Art Games, explained the process: “The developers used real versions of characters and objects to create the in-game models.” The quote explains why the handmade look reads as physical rather than decorative, and it is the developer-side account behind the praise critics give to the presentation.
What the game is, briefly
Ufouria: The Saga 2 is a single-player, exploration-based action side-scroller from SUNSOFT. It features returning characters and stages that change between visits, which is relevant to critics’ comments about exploration: the game rewards returning to areas, but it does not punish you for moving slowly.

Platforms and release dates
- Nintendo Switch: Nintendo’s official US store lists a digital release dated March 1, 2024. Nintendo Life lists the same North American release date.
- PlayStation 5: PlayStation’s US store listing identifies a PS5 version.
- Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One: Xbox Wire reported availability on these consoles on March 1, 2024.
These dates describe launch availability. Current stock, regional availability, and pricing change over time, so confirm them on the storefront you plan to use.
Player ratings are a different measure
The PlayStation Store listing for the PS5 version shows a player rating of 4.63/5 from 132 ratings, as checked in 2026. These are ratings from players, not critics, so they answer a different question. A high player rating from a small number of ratings says that people who bought the game on PlayStation mostly liked it, but it does not change the critic picture above.

Who the reviews suggest the game is for
- Players who want a relaxed, charming exploration game with a strong visual identity are the audience critics most clearly recommend it to.
- Players who want difficult bosses, deep combat systems, or a demanding platformer should expect the criticism of simplicity and easy bosses to apply directly.
- Readers who are unsure should look at the Nintendo Life review for the caveats and the Nintendo World Report review for the strongest case in its favor.
Scores and store listings change. The reviews themselves are the more durable evidence, and they consistently point to the same strengths and weaknesses.
