Choose a competitive tag fighter such as 2XKO if you want player-versus-player fighting matches, or a team shooter such as Marvel Rivals if you want squad-based shooter combat. Those games serve different purposes: “team-based fighting game” can mean several kinds of multiplayer, and Unrivaled Heroes is not presented as a conventional competitive fighter.
There is one important catch: Steam currently lists Unrivaled Heroes as “Coming soon.” Its store page does not establish a firm release date or price, so this is a comparison of the advertised game and its intended fit—not a verdict based on a released game or hands-on testing.

First, what does “team-based fighting game” mean?
The phrase can describe games with very different goals. A cooperative brawler puts players on the same side against computer-controlled enemies. A tag-team fighting game pits players against one another in structured fights, with a team of characters involved in each match. A team shooter also pits groups against each other, but its combat is built around shooting rather than fighting-game matches.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThat distinction matters more than the word “team.” In a co-op game, a group may work together to clear a level and defeat bosses. In a competitive tag fighter, the team is part of how a player competes against an opponent. In a shooter, a team coordinates around the shooter’s objectives and combat. A game can share a broad interest in group combat with another without being a close substitute for it.

Unrivaled Heroes: 2.5D Brawler belongs in the co-op brawler category based on its Steam listing. The useful comparison is therefore not “Which game is objectively better?” but “Which kind of play do you want?” The available information does not support a universal winner, nor a judgment about combat feel, balance, performance, or overall quality.
It also helps to separate three questions that are easy to blend together: what genre a game belongs to, whether it supports the kind of multiplayer your group wants, and whether it is available on your platform now. Unrivaled Heroes is described as a brawler and advertises local co-op, but its full release is still listed as upcoming. 2XKO and Marvel Rivals are useful genre reference points, not evidence that all three games offer the same modes or are equally available.
What Unrivaled Heroes advertises
GingerSun Games is listed as the developer and Soft Source as the publisher. The game is described as a 2.5D side-scrolling beat-’em-up: players use heroes with distinct abilities, martial arts, skills, and ultimates to fight enemies and bosses. Its chapter-based story is set in a fictionalized medieval Indonesia inspired by Indonesian folklore and mythology. Steam describes its visuals as combining 2D and 3D elements.
Those details point toward a game organized around progressing through stages and confronting enemies, rather than a series of competitive rounds against another player. The hero abilities and ultimates suggest that characters will have different combat identities, but the listing does not explain the roster, the exact ability sets, how characters are unlocked, or how progression works in the full game. Nor does it provide enough evidence to assess the depth of the combat system. Treat these as advertised ingredients, not proof of how they feel together.
The advertised format supports single-player and cooperative play. Steam lists shared or split-screen co-op, local co-op for up to four players, and Remote Play Together. Those are co-op features, not evidence of online competitive PvP. The available listing information does not establish matchmaking, cross-play, or online versus modes. If your main requirement is ranked play or matchmaking against other people, do not assume those features will be included.
For a group deciding whether it fits a game night, the local co-op listing is the most concrete multiplayer detail: up to four players are advertised. But the listing does not specify every practical detail, such as whether all players can choose any hero, what the screen layout looks like, or how the game handles joining and leaving. Those details matter when organizing a group, so check the current store page or later official updates for confirmation rather than treating the player limit as a complete feature description.
The setting may be a deciding factor if you want an action game drawing on Indonesian folklore rather than a familiar superhero setting. Its combination of a fictionalized medieval Indonesia, folklore, and mythology gives the premise a clear identity. Still, a distinctive premise does not establish how well the story, combat, or character roster will work in practice. The advertised description is useful for deciding whether the concept interests you; it is not a substitute for released-game experience.
How it compares with 2XKO and Marvel Rivals
These examples clarify the genre choices rather than rank games that share the same match structure. Riot describes 2XKO as a free-to-play 2v2 tag-team fighting game. Marvel Rivals is a free-to-play superhero team-based PvP shooter; its official launch announcement says it launched on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S in December 2024. Neither description makes those games direct equivalents of a side-scrolling co-op brawler.

| Game | Best-supported genre and play style | What the comparison means |
|---|---|---|
| Unrivaled Heroes: 2.5D Brawler | 2.5D side-scrolling beat-’em-up; single-player and advertised local co-op for up to four players. | Consider it for cooperative progression, side-scrolling action, enemies and bosses, and its folklore-inspired setting. The Steam listing currently says “Coming soon.” |
| 2XKO | Free-to-play 2v2 tag-team fighting game, according to Riot Games. | Consider it if the appeal is competitive tag-team fighting. Its 2v2 structure is not the same as four players cooperating against enemies. |
| Marvel Rivals | Free-to-play team-based PvP shooter. The official announcement reports a December 2024 launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. | Consider it if you want team-versus-team shooter combat and a superhero setting. It is not a side-scrolling brawler or a tag fighter. See the official launch announcement. |
For players primarily looking for competitive matches, the distinction is decisive. The cited descriptions identify 2XKO and Marvel Rivals as PvP choices, while Unrivaled Heroes is advertised around co-op against enemies and bosses. If you want to improve against human opponents, organize versus matches, or pursue competitive play, the advertised Unrivaled Heroes modes do not currently answer that need. That is not a criticism of the game; it is a different intended activity.
There is also a cost distinction worth keeping in view, although it cannot settle value by itself. Riot and Marvel describe 2XKO and Marvel Rivals as free-to-play. Steam does not provide a firm price for Unrivaled Heroes in the listing information reviewed here, so its eventual upfront cost is unknown. “Free-to-play” does not, on its own, establish what optional purchases a game may offer; likewise, no specific purchase or monetization model for Unrivaled Heroes should be assumed before its price and final store details are confirmed.
The comparison is about fit, not a scorecard. The available facts do not establish a comparable roster size, match length, control scheme, difficulty, balance, or performance across all three games. Comparing those qualities would require evidence beyond the product descriptions and announcements available here. The games also do not share a demonstrated platform matrix: Marvel Rivals’ announcement names PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, while the Unrivaled Heroes listing supplies Windows requirements. That is not enough to infer the final platform availability of Unrivaled Heroes or to make a complete platform comparison.

Which should you play?
Choose Unrivaled Heroes if you want cooperative brawling
- You want to clear side-scrolling stages with friends rather than fight those friends or other players.
- You are interested in local co-op for a group of up to four, subject to the final game matching its advertised feature set.
- You want hero abilities, martial arts, enemies, bosses, and a chapter-based story.
- The medieval Indonesia-inspired setting and folklore influence appeal to you.
It is also the most relevant option here if your preferred format is one shared campaign or series of stages in which the group acts together. The listing’s single-player support means it is not described as requiring a party, either. However, details such as campaign length, replay options, difficulty settings, and whether co-op changes the challenge are not established by the store description, so they should not be part of a confident recommendation yet.
Because the full game is not yet available according to its Steam page, treat each item here as an advertised fit rather than a verified play experience. In particular, the listing does not establish how the controls feel, how difficult the game is, or how well its co-op works in practice.
Choose a tag fighter if competitive fighting is the point
If you want head-to-head player-versus-player matches built around teams of fighters, 2XKO is the clearer example in this comparison. Riot identifies it as a free-to-play 2v2 tag-team fighting game. That gives you a known genre and match format to look into, but the description alone does not establish whether its mechanics, platform availability, or competitive features match your preferences.
Do not read “2v2” as meaning four people cooperate on one side. It describes a tag-team fighting format, unlike Unrivaled Heroes’ advertised co-op group working together against the game. If your friends want to play against each other, the competitive category is the better starting point; if the group wants to team up against enemies, the brawler description is the closer fit.
Choose a team shooter if you mean squad combat broadly
If “team-based fighting” means coordinating with other players against an opposing team, but you are open to shooter combat, Marvel Rivals fits that broader idea. Its official launch announcement identifies it as a PvP shooter and confirms its December 2024 launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It is a genre change from both a brawler and a tag fighter, not a like-for-like alternative.

Marvel Rivals may make sense if what matters most is a superhero setting and team-versus-team shooter play. It is less relevant if you specifically want side-scrolling stages, martial-arts-inspired brawling, or a co-op story campaign. The available comparison does not support a verdict on which game has better teamwork, characters, or combat; those are matters to evaluate from each game’s actual experience.
Wait for more information if release certainty matters
If you need a game you can play now, the “Coming soon” status on the Steam listing is decisive: the reviewed listing does not confirm that the full game is available. It also does not provide a firm release date or price. Check the official store page for current availability rather than relying on an older announcement or an assumed launch window.
Waiting is also sensible if your decision depends on a final roster, controller support, accessibility features, or exact multiplayer setup. These are practical buying and playability questions, but the current listing information does not resolve them. The June 2025 demo notice is not a substitute for checking the current status: a planned demo event is a dated announcement, not confirmation that the demo remains available today or that the full release has arrived.

The Steam store page currently marks the full game “Coming soon.” It does not establish a firm release date or price, and the available information does not establish final platforms beyond the listed Windows PC requirements. The minimum specifications below are the store’s stated requirements, not independent testing or a guarantee of a particular frame rate or visual quality.
| Steam-listed minimum | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 or Windows 11 |
| Processor | Intel Core i3 2.1 GHz or AMD equivalent |
| Memory | 4 GB RAM |
| Graphics | Intel HD 4000 |
| DirectX | Version 9 |
| Available storage | 5 GB |
In practical terms, the listing says the game requires 5 GB of available storage and gives a minimum memory figure of 4 GB RAM. It also names a specific baseline graphics option, Intel HD 4000, and an Intel Core i3 at 2.1 GHz or AMD equivalent. These are compatibility checkpoints, not a recommended build. “AMD equivalent” does not identify a particular processor model, and no recommended graphics card, processor, or memory figure is provided.
These minimums can help you check basic compatibility, but they do not answer how the game will run on a particular PC. No recommended specifications or measured performance results are established here. If your system is near the listed minimum, wait for fuller system information or reliable testing before making a decision based on expected performance. The figures also do not establish support for other operating systems, console versions, or handheld devices.
A historical announcement on the Steam Community page said on June 9, 2025 that a demo was planned for Steam Next Fest, scheduled for June 10–17, 2025, and described 10+ unlockable characters in that demo. That dated plan is not proof that the demo is currently available, nor does it establish the final game’s roster. Check the current official store and community pages for present availability.
Recommended Free Tools
The demo announcement is useful as a dated snapshot of what the developer and publisher said they planned at that time: a Steam Next Fest demo and more than ten unlockable characters in the demo. It should not be used to infer the final roster size, a release date, the current state of the demo, or how the complete game plays. If the demo is available on the current Steam page, it may provide a chance to test the concept directly, but its present availability cannot be inferred from the June 2025 notice alone.

What is—and is not—known about multiplayer
For Unrivaled Heroes, the advertised multiplayer case is straightforward: Steam lists local co-op for up to four players, shared or split-screen co-op, and Remote Play Together. That supports considering it for cooperative play, especially if playing with friends is the main reason you are interested.
Other practical details are not established by the available listing information. It does not confirm online co-op beyond the Remote Play Together feature, dedicated online matchmaking, cross-play, controller support, or the exact setup required for a group. Do not treat Remote Play Together as proof of native online matchmaking or cross-platform play; the feature name alone does not establish either.
That matters for groups who do not share a room. Steam’s Remote Play Together feature is listed, but the available listing does not explain what connection setup or controls are required, nor whether players can join from different operating systems or platforms. Avoid promising that a particular remote setup will work until the game’s final requirements and feature details are clear.
For local groups, the advertised four-player limit is a stronger basis for planning, but it still leaves questions. The listing does not specify whether the game supports four controllers, whether keyboard-and-controller combinations are possible, or how accessibility and input options are handled. If those details are essential, check for updates before purchasing rather than assuming standard options.
For 2XKO and Marvel Rivals, the cited descriptions establish their broad competitive categories, but they do not supply a complete apples-to-apples account of player counts, online systems, matchmaking, platforms, or system requirements. If one of those details determines your choice, verify it on the respective official game pages rather than filling the gap with assumptions.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.A practical decision checklist
- Decide whether you want cooperation or competition. Pick Unrivaled Heroes for the advertised co-op brawler format; look at 2XKO for tag-team fighting or Marvel Rivals for team shooter combat.
- Decide what “team” means for your group. Up to four local co-op players against game-controlled foes is different from a 2v2 competitive fighting match or a team PvP shooter.
- Check whether you need a game available now. The Steam page’s “Coming soon” status means the reviewed information does not confirm the full game is playable.
- Check the details that affect your setup. For PC, compare your machine with the stated minimum requirements, then confirm current platform and multiplayer details on the store page. The minimums alone do not predict performance.
- Make a quality judgment only after evidence exists. Setting and feature descriptions can tell you whether the concept sounds appealing; they cannot establish combat feel, difficulty, balance, or technical performance.
One useful way to narrow the choice is to start with the people you expect to play with. If everyone is in the same room and wants to cooperate, Unrivaled Heroes’ advertised local co-op is the closest match, subject to its eventual release and final feature set. If each person wants to compete against an opponent, start with a fighting game. If the group wants to coordinate in a shooter, Marvel Rivals is the example here. If your group cannot agree on a mode, the genre distinction will matter more than a shared interest in playing as a team.
Then check your practical constraints in order: availability, platform, multiplayer setup, and price. For Unrivaled Heroes, availability and price remain uncertain on the Steam listing, while Windows minimum requirements are supplied. Its listing does not settle the final platform lineup or every multiplayer detail. For the alternatives, use their official pages to confirm current modes, platform support, and any other requirement that could affect your group. Free-to-play status is useful context, but it does not answer whether the actual play style is right for you.
For the title question, there is no universal winner: choose Unrivaled Heroes if its eventual release delivers the advertised cooperative side-scrolling experience and that is what you want. Choose a clearly identified tag fighter or team shooter if your priority is competitive player-versus-player play.
