Yes—but only with specific ASUS devices and a hands-on build. XG_Mobile_Station is an open-source board project that adapts ASUS’s proprietary XG Mobile connector for PCIe cards, including desktop graphics cards. Its project documentation names 2021–2023 ROG Flow devices and the 2023 ROG Ally; it does not establish support for every Ally or Flow model, including the ROG Ally X.
What XG_Mobile_Station does
The project replaces or adapts hardware associated with ASUS’s XG Mobile connection so a compatible ROG device can connect to a PCIe card. It is not a generic USB-C eGPU dock: the host needs the XG Mobile connector. The project describes its hardware as allowing connection of PCIe cards to ASUS ROG devices with that connector. XG_Mobile_Station project documentation
That means a standard desktop graphics card is possible in principle, but the board is only one part of a working setup. You must build and configure it, supply power for the card, and address any device or driver issues that arise.
Which ROG devices are named as supported?
The project lists these device generations and maximum link configurations. These are project-stated capabilities, not independent performance measurements.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Host device | Project-stated PCIe capability | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| ROG Flow devices from 2021, 2022, and 2023 | Up to PCIe 4.0 x8 | Must have the XG Mobile connector and match the project’s supported device generation. |
| 2023 ROG Ally | Up to PCIe 4.0 x4 | This does not establish compatibility with later Ally models. |
Do not assume that a shared product name means a shared connection. The ROG Ally X is a distinct case: a July 22, 2024 Liliputing report describes it as having a 40 Gbps USB4 port instead of the XG Mobile connector. The project documentation does not claim Ally X support.
Choose between the standard and Lite boards
The project offers two board approaches. Select based on the enclosure and power arrangement you want to build, not on an assumption that either version is plug-and-play.

| Variant | Design and features | Power and enclosure implications |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | Replacement PCB for the ASUS XG Station Pro; includes a USB 3.1 Gen 2 hub and USB Power Delivery charging. | Designed around the XG Station Pro enclosure and its board arrangement. |
| Lite | Standalone board dimensionally compatible with the ADT-UT3G enclosure; passes USB through to an external port. | Requires a standard ATX power supply. |
Before choosing parts, check the project’s current build documentation for board details and enclosure fit. Also account for the physical length and thickness of the graphics card, its power connectors, cable routing, and the power supply needed by your specific card. The documentation does not establish a recommended GPU model or comparative performance for different cards.
What building and setup involve
This is a DIY hardware project: the documented sequence includes building the PCB, flashing it, and installing software. The specific programming work differs by board variant.

- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Build the PCB. Follow the project’s current hardware and assembly instructions rather than treating the board as a finished retail dock.
- Flash the board. Lite boards need STM32 firmware flashing. The documented STM32 programmer workflow names an ST-LINK v2. The standard board also requires programming SPI flash for its power-delivery and USB-hub components.
- Install XGMDriver. The installer asks you to select AMD or NVIDIA according to the installed graphics card. The project says this software makes Armoury Crate identify the custom dock as an official XG Mobile device.
- Connect the GPU and verify operation. Check that the card is seated, powered, and recognized, then confirm the PCIe link and sustained operation under load.

A successful connection does not guarantee every feature will work immediately. The project documents NVIDIA error 43 and cases with no video output, and points users to an eGPU script for troubleshooting. Tom’s Hardware’s July 22, 2024 coverage of the reverse-engineering effort also noted that a separate eGPU script was still needed for NVIDIA display detection at that time. Use the current project documentation for present-day steps.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
The README also warns that hot-plugging can cause PCIe to fall back to Gen 3; a restart may be needed. Stable Gen 4 operation can depend on PCB signal integrity and assembly, GPU seating, and cable condition or manufacturing variation. The project recommends checking that the GPU can reach PCIe 4.0 speeds in a desktop PC and testing sustained operation under load.

Is this a sensible eGPU project for you?
- Check the host first: confirm the exact model and generation, and verify it has the XG Mobile connector. The project’s named list is not a blanket compatibility claim for all Ally or Flow devices.
- Plan the physical build: choose the standard or Lite board, confirm enclosure fit, and allow room for the card, cables, and cooling.
- Plan power and peripherals: the Lite version requires a standard ATX PSU; consider separately whether the standard board’s USB hub and USB PD features suit your setup.
- Be ready for technical setup: PCB assembly, firmware flashing, software installation, and GPU troubleshooting are part of the documented process.
- Keep expectations grounded: the project states link capabilities but the cited material provides no comparable GPU benchmarks or tested “best card” recommendation.
