usrdpa.dll is the U.S. Robotics data pump manager, a component of an older U.S. Robotics modem driver package. It is not a normal Windows 10 or Windows 11 system DLL, and it is not supplied by Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET.

The correct repair is usually to identify the modem that installed it and reinstall the complete, model-specific driver package. Downloading an isolated copy of the DLL or copying it into System32 usually treats the symptom rather than repairing the modem installation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhich fix applies to you
Use the path that matches how the error appeared:
- The error appeared while Windows or communications software detected a modem: reinstall the complete U.S. Robotics modem driver.
- You recently removed, reinstalled, or updated a modem: remove the broken package, restart, and install the driver for the exact modem product code.
- The problem began after upgrading Windows: check whether the old modem is supported on the current Windows version. If it is no longer used, uninstall its software instead.
- Windows Security reported or quarantined the file: inspect Protection history before restoring anything.
- Several unrelated Windows components are failing: use DISM and SFC to check Windows itself. These commands do not normally restore a third-party modem DLL.
- The modem is obsolete and unnecessary: uninstall the modem software and remove the stale startup or service entry instead of replacing the file.
- The file exists but will not load: check its location, signature, architecture, dependencies, and the application that is requesting it.
What is usrdpa.dll?
The file description is U.S. Robotics data pump manager. It belongs to legacy U.S. Robotics dial-up modem software and was installed alongside other modem components, including port drivers, co-installers, and data, fax, or voice modules.
#1 Best Overall
- Controller-based modem integrates powerful communications processing functions into the modem itself, for assured performance without sapping processing power.

- Linux 2.4.20 kernel or higher (Unimodem TSP/TAPI compliant)
- Intel Pentium III 600 MHz or equivalent, 128 MB RAM, 5 MB hard drive space
The name does not identify one universal modem model. U.S. Robotics released many products, and driver downloads were organized by product code. An OEM computer maker may also have supplied the modem package, so a Dell, Gateway, Micron, or other branded computer can require an OEM-specific driver rather than a generic replacement.
Historical Windows inventories show usrdpa.dll as a U.S. Robotics component, but that does not make it a current Windows system file. A modern computer normally encounters this file because it still has an old modem package, an upgraded legacy installation, or a restored system image.
Where was it normally installed?
There is no single safe location that applies to every release. A genuine copy may have been placed in the modem software’s installation directory or alongside the executable that loads it. The exact path depends on the modem model, installer, Windows version, and whether the package came from U.S. Robotics or an OEM.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Do not assume that a copy in C:WindowsSystem32 is correct. On 64-bit Windows, 32-bit components can also be handled through Windows filesystem redirection, and System32 does not by itself prove that a file is 64-bit.
Identify the modem before repairing the file
Before downloading anything, find the hardware or software that is requesting usrdpa.dll.
Check Device Manager
- Press Windows key + X.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Modems.
- Also expand Ports (COM & LPT) and Other devices.
- Look for a U.S. Robotics entry, an unknown modem, or a device with a yellow warning icon.
- Right-click the device and select Properties.
- Read the General tab for the device status.
- Open the Details tab.
- In Property, select Hardware Ids.
- Record the displayed values before changing the driver.
The modem’s label, model number, hardware ID, or product code is more useful than the DLL filename. If Device Manager shows no modem, inspect Apps > Installed apps in Windows 11 or Apps > Apps & features in Windows 10 for U.S. Robotics modem software.
Check the error’s parent program
If the message appears when a particular program starts:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

- Note the program name and installation path.
- Check whether the program is old modem software, fax software, terminal software, or a communications utility.
- Do not assume that a game or unrelated application owns the DLL. The available evidence points to modem-driver startup and installation components, not a specific modern game.
- If the error names an old modem utility, uninstalling and reinstalling that utility together with the driver may be necessary.
If you have several modem packages installed, identify each one before removing anything. Uninstalling one package can leave another device without its driver.
Fix 1: Reinstall the complete U.S. Robotics modem driver
This is the safest and most likely fix when usrdpa.dll is missing, corrupted, or cannot be loaded.

- Operating Temperature conditions are 0 to 50 degrees C, Non-Operating Temperature conditions is -20 to 70 degrees C
Use the original installation CD if it matches the modem. Otherwise, use the official U.S. Robotics support page for the exact product code. If the modem was supplied with a branded computer, check the computer manufacturer’s support package as well.
- Disconnect the modem if it is an external USB device.
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Open Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Remove the U.S. Robotics modem software if the installation is clearly damaged.
- Restart Windows.
- Reconnect the modem only when the installer requests it, unless the manufacturer’s instructions say otherwise.
- Run the installer that matches the exact modem model and Windows architecture.
- Restart again.
- Open Device Manager and confirm that the modem appears without a warning icon.
- Test the modem with the application that previously produced the error.
If the installer offers a repair option, use it before removing the package. If it reports that the operating system is unsupported, do not force the installation with a random DLL. Check whether the modem has a driver for the current Windows release.
The driver package should restore usrdpa.dll together with its related files, registry entries, services, and dependencies. A standalone DLL cannot reliably recreate those parts.
Hunting through old driver packages and matching architecture, versions, and hardware IDs by hand can be tedious. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated or missing drivers; its free scan shows what it finds, while driver installation is handled by the full version. It is optional, and the exact modem manufacturer package remains the preferred source.
If Device Manager still shows an error
Right-click the modem in Device Manager and select Properties. Record the Device status message and any error code.
Then try the following:
- Select the Driver tab.
- Choose Roll Back Driver if the problem began immediately after a driver update and the button is available.
- Otherwise select Uninstall Device.
- If offered, select the option to remove the driver software for the device.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the exact driver package again.
Do not uninstall every device under Ports (COM & LPT) or remove unrelated modem packages without identifying them first.

Old modem drivers can be flagged because they are obsolete, unsigned, or uncommon. However, a file named usrdpa.dll should not be restored solely because the filename is familiar.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Open the detection involving
usrdpa.dll. - Review the original file path, detection name, and affected program.
- Check whether the path belongs to the installed U.S. Robotics modem package.
- Restore or allow the file only when its location, installer source, and digital signature are credible.
- If the path is a temporary folder, an unrelated application directory, or an unexpected startup location, leave it quarantined.
- Run a full scan after handling the detection.
If the file was legitimately quarantined, reinstalling the complete driver is usually safer than restoring the individual item. If Defender continues to detect the package, look for a newer driver or remove the obsolete modem software.
Fix 3: Repair Windows components when broader corruption exists
DISM and System File Checker are appropriate when multiple Windows components are failing, the computer suffered an improper shutdown, or other protected system files are damaged. They are not a normal replacement for a U.S. Robotics driver installer.
Run DISM
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Enter:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Press Enter.
- Wait for the operation to complete.
- Restart Windows if DISM reports that repairs were completed.
Run SFC
After DISM finishes, open an elevated Command Prompt again and enter:

sfc /scannow
Press Enter and wait until verification reaches 100 percent. Restart Windows, then test the modem or the program that reported the error.
SFC repairs protected Windows files. Because usrdpa.dll belongs to a third-party modem package, SFC will not normally restore it. If the error remains, return to the model-specific driver reinstall.
Repeating repair commands without knowing whether the modem package is damaged makes troubleshooting harder. Outbyte PC Repair can provide a scan of detected Windows issues; its free scan shows the findings, while repair is performed by the full version. It is optional and does not replace reinstalling the correct U.S. Robotics driver.
Fix 4: Use System Restore after a recent driver change
System Restore can help when the modem worked recently and the failure began after a driver installation, Windows upgrade, cleanup operation, or software removal.

- Review the changes.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart and complete the restoration.
System Restore changes drivers and software settings but does not normally remove personal documents. If no suitable restore point exists, use the driver reinstall procedure instead.
Fix 5: Remove obsolete modem software
If you no longer use the modem, removing the old package is often better than trying to keep an obsolete DLL working.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for U.S. Robotics, the modem model, or related fax and communications software.
- Uninstall the relevant package.
- Restart Windows.
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Modems and Ports (COM & LPT).
- Uninstall the unused modem device.
- Remove the driver package when Windows provides that option.
- Restart again.
- Check whether the error has disappeared.
If the error still appears after removal, a stale startup or service entry may be launching an old executable.
- Open Task Manager with Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
- Select Startup apps.
- Disable an entry clearly associated with the unused modem software.
- Do not disable unknown entries solely because they are unfamiliar.
- Restart and test again.
For a persistent service or scheduled task, record its name and path before disabling it. The path should point to the old modem installation. Do not delete registry entries unless you have a backup and can identify the exact obsolete component.

Why regsvr32 usrdpa.dll usually does not help
regsvr32 is designed for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. It is not a general-purpose command for restoring missing or damaged DLLs.
There is no verified indication that usrdpa.dll is a COM or ActiveX server that requires registration. Running:
Rank #4
- Dual port built in buzzer, compatible with Windows 10, latest Windows OS installation for Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7, 32-bit, 64-bit
- Tested on Dell inspiron 3847 Windows 10 home 64-bit -send/receive fax successfully -dial up connection connected to NetZero at 46.6 KBPS
- USB 2.0 plug and play -fast & easy hardware and driver installation - USB powered, no power adapter needed
- Dual RJ-11 phone jack for expansion - dual jack for connecting an additional telephone or answering machine
- Fax compatibility ITU-T- send & receive rates up to 14.4k BPS, mOh - receive phone call during active internet connection
regsvr32 usrdpa.dll
may produce an error such as “The module was loaded but the entry-point DllRegisterServer was not found.” That does not prove Windows is damaged. It means the DLL is not meant to be registered that way.
Do not use regsvr32 as the routine fix. Restore the complete modem driver instead.
Why copying the DLL is unsafe
Avoid copying usrdpa.dll from another computer into:
C:WindowsSystem32C:WindowsSysWOW64- an application folder
- a temporary folder
- a random directory named in an error message
A copied file may have the wrong architecture, depend on other missing files, or belong to a different modem package. It can also hide the original problem while creating a new loader error.
A publicly indexed legacy build is not proof that it is the correct version for your modem. The correct architecture and version must come from the complete driver package matched to the device and operating system. A 32-bit legacy DLL cannot be assumed to work with a 64-bit replacement package, and no verified universal 64-bit counterpart should be presumed.
How to distinguish a genuine file from malware
A legitimate usrdpa.dll should have a credible connection to U.S. Robotics modem software.
Check these details:
- Right-click the file and select Properties.
- Review the General tab for its location.
- Open Details and check the file description.
- Look for U.S. Robotics in the company or product information.
- Open the Digital Signatures tab if one is present.
- Select the signature and choose Details.
- Confirm that Windows reports the signature as valid.
- Scan the file with Windows Security.
- Check the parent executable and the program that loads it.
A missing signature does not automatically prove malware because old driver packages may predate current signing practices. However, a copy in a temporary directory, an unrelated game folder, or a suspicious startup path deserves extra scrutiny. Do not whitelist it merely because the filename is known.
Should you enable a Windows feature?
Usually not. usrdpa.dll is a modem-driver component, not a standard Windows optional feature.
You can inspect optional features at Settings > System > Optional features > View features on Windows 11, or Settings > Apps > Optional features on Windows 10. Do not enable legacy components just to make this DLL error disappear unless the modem manufacturer’s instructions specifically require them.
Best Value
- Connect to the Internet quickly and easily; installs in three simple steps
- Send e-mail and attachments up to 50-percent faster
- Send faxes from any Windows application and receive incoming faxes at any time; software-upgradeable
- Take incoming calls while online with no additional phone lines
- Built-in processor enables smoother streaming audio/video
Installing Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET is also not a verified fix for this filename. Those packages apply when the error names their own runtime files, such as MSVCP*.dll or VCRUNTIME*.dll.
If the error remains after reinstalling
Collect the information that identifies the failing component:
- Record the exact error text.
- Note when it appears: startup, modem detection, dialing, faxing, or another action.
- Check the modem’s Device Manager status.
- Record the full path of the executable that requests
usrdpa.dll. - Check the DLL’s location and file properties.
- Open Event Viewer by pressing Windows key + X and selecting Event Viewer.
- Review Windows Logs > Application and Windows Logs > System around the time of the failure.
- Record the Windows edition and whether it is 32-bit or 64-bit under Settings > System > About.
- Check whether the modem is an OEM device with a separate driver package.
- Reinstall or remove the modem software based on whether the hardware is still needed.
A DLL can be present and still fail because a dependency is missing, the calling executable is incompatible, the file is corrupted, or the driver package targets a different Windows architecture. Those conditions require repairing the package or removing it, not adding more copies of the same file.
FAQ
Is usrdpa.dll part of Windows?
No. It is associated with older U.S. Robotics modem driver software. It is not established as a current Windows 10 or Windows 11 component.
Which modem installed it?
The filename alone does not identify one model. Find the modem product code, hardware ID, original CD, or OEM support package, then install the matching driver.
Is usrdpa.dll safe?
It is a legitimate legacy filename in the context of U.S. Robotics modem software. Validate the file’s location, properties, signature, parent program, and security scan before trusting it.
Should I download usrdpa.dll from a DLL website?
No. Random DLL downloads can contain malware, use the wrong version or architecture, and leave the actual driver installation broken. Use the original media, U.S. Robotics support, or the computer manufacturer’s driver package.
Will Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET restore it?
There is no verified evidence that those runtimes supply usrdpa.dll. Reinstall the modem driver instead.
Does regsvr32 usrdpa.dll fix the error?
Usually not. regsvr32 is for DLLs that support registration entry points, and usrdpa.dll has not been established as one of those components.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
What if I do not use a dial-up modem anymore?
Uninstall the U.S. Robotics modem software and device, then remove the stale startup entry if necessary. Removing the obsolete package is safer than maintaining an unused legacy DLL.
Is there a 64-bit version?
A public listing of one legacy 32-bit build does not establish a universal 64-bit counterpart. Use the architecture supplied by the complete driver package for the exact modem and Windows installation.
