The best place to build in V Rising depends on what you need from your castle. For a first base, start by considering central Farbane Woods; for a connected mid-game base, look at central Dunley Farmlands. Later, choose a region such as Silverlight Hills, Gloomrot or the Dunley–Mortium border to suit the resources and activities you are pursuing. On PvP servers, a defensible approach can matter more than convenience; on PvE, multiple exits and shorter routes may be more useful.
Best locations by stage and play style
| Player need | Location to consider | Main advantage | Tradeoff |
|---|---|---|---|
| First castle and basic materials | Central Farbane Woods | Basic resources nearby and an easy route from the starting region | May be less convenient as a permanent base later |
| Connected mid-game base | Central Dunley Farmlands | Settlements, points of interest, Haunted Iron Mine and routes toward other regions | The quality and availability of individual plots differ |
| PvP defense | A plot with one defensible entrance and useful secondary space | Lets you focus defenses around a limited approach | Can mean longer trips or less convenient access |
| PvE convenience | A plot with multiple exits and useful resource routes | Can reduce walking between destinations | Less emphasis on a defensible choke point |
| Late-game resource focus | Silverlight Hills, Gloomrot or near the Dunley–Mortium border | Closer access to selected regional materials and activities | A specialized position may make other regions less convenient; Mortium has endgame conflict activity |
| Large or isolated build | Cursed Forest plot examples | More space and isolation | Fewer nearby resources |
Where to build your first castle
For a first castle, central Farbane Woods is a practical starting point. Level Infinite’s June 26, 2023 castle-building guide recommends a central starting-area location, citing nearby wood and stone and a route through shady trees toward the wider world. That is advice for getting started, not a claim that Farbane is the best permanent home.
When choosing a specific plateau, check the route out as well as the building space. A roomy plot can still be inconvenient if reaching the places you visit often requires a long detour. The game’s map shows claimable raised plateaus, and Castle Hearts can be placed across the map, according to the same guide.
Why central Dunley Farmlands suits a mid-game base
Central Dunley Farmlands is worth considering once your priorities shift from simply securing basic materials to reaching more destinations. Prima Games’ location guide points to nearby settlements and points of interest, access to the Haunted Iron Mine and connections to other regions.

Think of this as a connectivity recommendation, not a guarantee that every Dunley plot is equally useful. Compare the actual plateau’s approaches, routes and available space before committing; plot quality and availability vary.
How PvP and PvE change the choice
PvP: prioritize the approaches you can defend
PCGamesN’s location guide notes that PvP players often favor a plot with one entrance and a large secondary plateau. A limited approach can make defenses easier to focus, but it may cost you convenience or add travel. No location guarantees raid safety, and the best choice depends on the server’s rules and the plot available to you.

- NUMBER OF PLAYERS AND AVERAGE PLAYTIME: This thrilling dungeon crawling adventure game for teens and adults is designed for 1 to 4 players and is suitable for ages 14 and older. Average playtime is approximately 60 to 120 minutes.
PvE: prioritize useful routes and exits
On PvE servers, multiple exits can make routine trips shorter, according to the same guide. If defense against other players is not your main concern, weigh the routes you will use often—such as trips to resources, bosses and waygates—more heavily than a single choke point.
Choosing a later-region base
Later regions are best treated as specialized options: they can put a particular resource or activity closer, while making other destinations less convenient. The examples below come from regional recommendations in PCGamesN’s guide, not an official ranking of all plots.

- A new game mode that increases the difficulty and replayability of each Scenario*.
- New Objectives tailored for each Vagrant called Devious Deeds that provide more character customization as Rewards.
- A new type of rummage token
- And a few spooky surprises along the way!
- Vagrantsong: Off the Rails requires the core game of Vagrantsong to play. It is recommended that players also have Vagrantsong: Encore to gain the full Off the Rails experience. *Off the Rails does not include cards for the stand-alone Scenarios.
- Silverlight Hills: Consider it when access to silver and Brighthaven resources is a priority.
- Gloomrot: Consider it when you want to farm local resources and activities.
- Dunley–Mortium border: A border location can offer routes toward both regions.
- Cursed Forest: Some plots offer space and isolation, but with fewer nearby resources.
Mortium is described on V Rising’s official launch page as an endgame region with dynamic conflict events. A base near it can suit an endgame farming goal, but factor in both the trip to other regions and the exposure associated with its conflict activity.

The official launch page announces a castle-relocation framework for moving a castle from one available plot to another. It establishes relocation at a high level, but does not state all current unlock conditions, costs or server-setting details. Check the in-game options on your server before planning around a specific relocation schedule.

Build efficiency after you claim a plot
Location is only one part of a useful base. Level Infinite’s June 26, 2023 guide says fully enclosing workstations provides a 25% production-rate bonus, and using the matching floor type for a workstation provides an additional 25% bonus to the quantity of materials produced. These figures come from that 2023 guide; verify them against the current game before relying on them, since the guide does not establish that they remain current.
