In V Rising, you make Glass by smelting Quartz in a Furnace. The standard recipe consumes 20 Quartz for one Glass and takes 60 seconds; the listed floor bonus changes that to 15 Quartz and 48 seconds. The recipe becomes available after the Grethel the Glassblower V Blood unlock. Quartz and finished Glass are associated with the Quartz Quarry and several Dunley locations, while Glass is most important for Empty Glass Bottles, potion production, Castle Heart progression, blood-storage structures, windows, and decorations.

Glass at a glance
Glass is a refined progression material rather than a resource you collect once and forget. Quartz is the input, a Furnace is the normal processing station, and Grethel the Glassblower is the unlock milestone for the recipe. Once you can produce it, Glass supports two competing priorities: consumable production and permanent construction. Empty Glass Bottles feed Blood Potions and Blood Merlots, but the same material is also listed for Castle Heart level 3, blood-processing structures, windows, mirrors, lamps, and other furnishing recipes.

The most useful rule for planning is simple: keep enough Glass for your next bottle and potion batch before spending the remainder on architecture. The game databases present bottle recipes in two formats, so check the recipe shown by the station and server version you are playing instead of assuming every interface uses the same batch size.
What you need before making Glass
Grethel the Glassblower must be unlocked
The Glass recipe is tied to Grethel the Glassblower, a V Blood unlock source. If Glass does not appear in your crafting options, the missing unlock is the first thing to check. Progress toward the Quartz Mine/Glassblower milestone before planning a large Glass build; having Quartz in storage does not make the recipe available by itself.

The exact encounter and progression order can vary with game patches and server settings. Treat Grethel as the recipe gate shown by your current V Blood progression screen, and verify the active server version if an older guide gives a different requirement.
You need a Furnace or an available Advanced Furnace
Load Quartz into a Furnace and select Glass. An Advanced Furnace can also be used where the recipe is available in that station. The normal Furnace is therefore the dependable baseline for a new production line, while an Advanced Furnace is an option only when your version exposes the same recipe there.
You need Quartz
Quartz is the raw material consumed by the Glass recipe. The listed cost is 20 Quartz for one Glass, with a displayed floor bonus reducing the input to 15 Quartz. Gather enough Quartz for the immediate job and for downstream bottles before starting a decorative project; refining it later is slower than having a reserve ready when a potion recipe calls for bottles.
How to make Glass step by step
- Unlock the recipe. Defeat or otherwise complete the Grethel the Glassblower V Blood milestone required by your server. Return to your crafting progression and confirm that Glass is listed.
- Collect Quartz. Farm the Quartz Quarry or the documented Dunley locations: Dunley Monastery, Dawnbreak Village, and Trancendum Laboratories. Quartz and finished Glass can both appear in the documented loot pool, with Glass specifically listed as lootable in Dunley Monastery.
- Open a Furnace. Use an existing Furnace, or an Advanced Furnace if your version makes the recipe available there. Put Quartz into the station input.
- Select Glass. The base entry is 20 Quartz for one Glass and a 60-second duration. If the station recognizes the listed floor bonus, the interface shows 15 Quartz and 48 seconds instead.
- Start the queue. Leave the Furnace running until the Glass is finished, then collect it from the output slot. Queue only the amount you can support with your Quartz reserve if you still need material for bottles or a Castle Heart upgrade.
- Check the output before building. Move the finished Glass into storage or directly into the next recipe. If the quantity or duration differs from the figures above, record what your station displays; patch changes and server settings can alter recipe data.

The parenthetical values are the values shown with the listed floor bonus, not a separate item. In practical terms, inspect the Furnace panel after placing it and loading Quartz. The panel is authoritative for your current world because the recipe can change with a patch or custom server configuration.
Where to find Quartz and already-made Glass
The documented locations span a dedicated mining site and several Dunley points of interest. They are useful for different reasons: the Quartz Quarry is the obvious target when you want raw input for repeated smelting, while Dunley sites can provide Quartz or finished Glass as loot while you are collecting other materials.

Choose a route by distance, danger, and material state
There is no single best route for every castle. Compare three things before leaving: how far the site is from your current base, how dangerous the trip is for your character and gear, and whether you need raw Quartz or immediately usable Glass. A short, repeatable Quartz run is usually better when you intend to keep Furnaces operating. A Dunley route can be more efficient when you are already traveling there and may return with finished Glass.
Do not treat the location list as permanently fixed. The entries are patch-sensitive, and server administrators can alter availability. If a named site does not contain the expected loot, check the server’s game version and current item database rather than repeatedly farming an outdated location.

Turning Glass into Empty Glass Bottles
Empty Glass Bottles are the major downstream use of Glass. They are described as containers for potion production and are specifically used for Blood Potions and Blood Merlots. Because bottles are consumed by a different production chain than construction recipes, decide how many potions you intend to make before using Glass on windows or furnishings.
Why bottle recipes can look different
Two item listings present bottle costs in different formats. The dedicated Empty Glass Bottle entry gives a per-bottle cost of 4 Glass, shown as 3 Glass with the applicable bonus. A broader item-recipe table instead shows a batch of five bottles for 8 Glass, shown as 6 Glass with the corresponding bonus.

These entries should not be blended into one universal formula. They may represent different station presentations, recipe revisions, or version-specific data. Open the bottle recipe at the station you are actually using and follow its displayed batch size and cost. If you are planning from a database rather than the game interface, keep the source format attached to your calculation so you do not mistake a five-bottle batch for a single-bottle recipe.

Merchant alternative
The Rural Goods Merchant is listed as an alternative source for Empty Glass Bottles: a stack of five costs 10 Silver Coins. This option trades currency for time and avoids spending your own Glass, which can be valuable when a Castle Heart or blood-storage upgrade is waiting. It is also useful when you need a small number of bottles immediately but have not finished a Furnace queue.
Bottles in the potion chain
Plan bottles as a consumable reserve, not as permanent storage. Blood Potions and Blood Merlots are explicitly named bottle users, so a character preparing for repeated healing or blood-related crafting can consume bottles faster than a first-time builder expects. Keep a separate chest or inventory stack for Empty Glass Bottles and mark the remaining Glass as either potion stock or construction stock. This prevents a decorative build from silently consuming the material needed for the next alchemy session.
Construction and decoration uses
Glass appears in a broad set of castle recipes. The documented list covers progression structures, storage, architectural pieces, and decorative objects, so its value grows as your castle develops.
Progression and blood-processing structures
- Castle Heart level 3: the listed recipe uses 24 Glass.
- Advanced Blood Press: Glass is included in the recipe.
- Blood Homogenizer: Glass is included in the recipe.
- Small and large blood-potion storage: both storage sizes list Glass.
These recipes compete directly with bottle production for the same refined material. If a Heart upgrade or blood-processing station is your next progression gate, reserve that amount before allocating Glass to a room’s appearance.

Windows and reflective furnishings
- Clear windows use Glass.
- Colored windows use Glass.
- Mirrors use Glass.
- Dressing tables use Glass.
- Folding screens use Glass.
The listings identify Glass as an ingredient for these pieces, but the available entries do not give one universal quantity for every model or color. Read the individual construction recipe for the exact piece you are placing. Colored and clear variants should therefore be budgeted separately instead of assuming that one window type has the same cost as another.
Lamps and glassware
Lamps and decorative glassware are also listed as Glass users. The documented quantities range down to 1 Glass for some lamps or tableware, making these attractive finishing touches after your functional reserve is protected. Small per-item costs can still add up in a large hall, so count the number of fixtures before beginning a bulk decoration pass.
Further refinement and progression chains
A second Glass database lists Empty Glass Bottle, Scourgestone, and Empty Crystal Flask among downstream entries, while a broader item database groups Glass with Quartz and other crystal materials. The important implication is that Glass belongs to a progression chain: Quartz becomes Glass, Glass can become bottles or construction components, and bottles can feed additional potion recipes.
Because the databases organize these relationships differently, use the station recipe as the final check for your world. If an item appears as a downstream entry but is not selectable in your current interface, it may require a separate unlock, a different station, or a newer or older patch than the one your server runs.

Start with mandatory progression
Write down the next recipe that blocks your progression: Castle Heart level 3, a blood-processing structure, or storage. Remove that Glass requirement from your available stock first. The documented Heart level 3 recipe is the clearest fixed benchmark at 24 Glass.
Reserve bottle material second
Estimate your immediate Blood Potion and Blood Merlot needs, then consult the bottle format shown in your game. If your interface uses the dedicated entry, it shows 4 Glass per bottle, or 3 with the displayed bonus. If it uses the general table, it shows five bottles for 8 Glass, or 6 with the displayed bonus. Keep that reserve physically separate from build materials so a crafting queue cannot consume it accidentally.
Spend the remainder on rooms and décor
Use what remains for clear or colored windows, mirrors, dressing tables, folding screens, lamps, and decorative glassware. Build in batches: finish one room, reassess your bottle and progression reserves, then begin the next room. This approach is safer than converting every Quartz stack at once and discovering that the next unlock requires Glass you have already installed in walls.

Keep raw Quartz for future queues
Finished Glass is convenient, but a Quartz reserve gives you flexibility. Raw Quartz can be turned into Glass when a bottle or structure becomes urgent, while a castle full of decorative pieces cannot be reclaimed into Quartz through the recipes listed here. Farm extra Quartz when you are already near the Quarry or a Dunley site rather than making a special trip for every small order.
Troubleshooting common Glass problems
The Glass recipe is missing
Confirm that Grethel the Glassblower has been completed as a V Blood unlock. Then verify that you are looking at a Furnace or an Advanced Furnace where the recipe is supported. If both checks pass, compare your server’s patch and settings with the item listing; recipe availability can change between versions.
The Furnace asks for more Quartz than expected
The base listing is 20 Quartz per Glass. The lower 15-Quartz figure belongs to the listed floor bonus. Inspect the station’s floor-bonus indicator rather than assuming the reduction applies everywhere. If the bonus is not shown, budget for the base 20-Quartz cost.
Production takes 60 seconds instead of 48
Sixty seconds is the base duration, while 48 seconds is the duration shown with the listed floor bonus. A 60-second timer therefore indicates that the bonus is not active in that station context, or that your version presents the unmodified recipe. Use the timer currently displayed by the Furnace for queue planning.

Check whether you are on the correct Dunley site and whether the location list matches your patch. Quartz Quarry, Dunley Monastery, Dawnbreak Village, and Trancendum Laboratories are documented locations, but their loot tables are patch-sensitive. Search the site’s containers and resource nodes, then verify the active server version before concluding that the recipe is broken.
The bottle count or cost does not match a guide
Compare the station’s recipe format with the two documented presentations: one bottle for 4 (3) Glass, or five bottles for 8 (6) Glass. Do not multiply one format across the other. Follow the batch and cost shown in your own interface, especially after a patch or when playing on a customized server.
You used Glass on decorations and now need bottles
Return to the Quartz route and prioritize raw input for a new Furnace queue. If the need is immediate, check the Rural Goods Merchant for five Empty Glass Bottles at 10 Silver Coins. For future builds, reserve progression and bottle stock before placing windows, mirrors, lamps, or tableware.
Patch and server-version cautions
Recipe quantities, unlocks, loot locations, floor-bonus behavior, and even the way a database displays a batch can change with V Rising patches or server settings. The values in this guide are the documented figures: 20 Quartz for one Glass at 60 seconds, or 15 Quartz and 48 seconds with the listed floor bonus; the two bottle formats; and the named Quarry and Dunley locations.
When your game disagrees, treat the active in-game recipe and the server’s version as authoritative. Record the displayed input, output, duration, and batch size before committing a large resource stockpile. This is especially important for multiplayer servers that update on a different schedule from the client or use custom settings.
