For a first serious run, join a recently opened official PvE Cooperative server on Normal difficulty. In the in-game server browser, compare region, population and server age before creating your vampire. Choose PvP only if your group wants territorial conflict and accepts its raid schedule; choose Brutal after you understand the normal progression loop.

What an official V Rising server is—and why the choice matters
V Rising is a gothic open-world survival action RPG from Stunlock Studios, playable solo or online with other players on Steam and PlayStation 5. An official server supplies the rules, progression and reset schedule, so your first decision is more consequential than simply picking a convenient name from a list.

Official worlds are designed to provide a stable shared experience, not a permanent home. Stunlock’s 2024 official-server policy says every server eventually resets and that each server has a cap of 60 players. A reset removes the world’s castles, characters and progression, starting a new season. Stunlock also says it opens additional servers during a reset cycle so players can find worlds with meaningful time remaining.
That seasonal design changes how you should plan. A new player building a large castle wants months of runway; a group looking for immediate conflict may prefer a recently wiped PvP world. Always inspect the server’s age and reset information in the live browser rather than relying on an old launch list.
#1 Best Overall
- Awaken as a Vampire. Hunt for blood in nearby settlements to regain your strength and evade the scorching sun to survive.
- Raise your castle and thrive in an ever-changing, open world full of mystery. Gain allies online and conquer the land of the living.
Best official server for a beginner
Recommended starting point: PvE Cooperative, Normal
A recently opened official PvE Cooperative server on Normal is the safest default. PvE removes attacks from other players while you learn weapon abilities, gathering, castle construction, blood management, V Blood routes and the day/night cycle. Cooperative rules still let you play with friends, but your early mistakes are not compounded by an enemy clan destroying an unfinished base.
Normal is the standard action-combat survival experience. It preserves the intended damage, boss health and resource pressure without the reduced danger of Relaxed or the substantially tougher encounters of Brutal. If your group mainly wants to tour the building system with minimal pressure, Relaxed is reasonable; otherwise, Normal teaches the systems you will use on every later server.

When another choice makes sense
- Relaxed PvE: choose it for a low-pressure building-focused session. Sun damage, blood drain and enemy damage are reduced, and V Blood bosses have lower health.
- PvP: choose it when your group actively wants contested territory, player combat and the risk that raid rules impose on castle planning.
- Brutal: choose it after you have completed or substantially experienced Vardoran. Stunlock recommends Brutal only for vampires who have already experienced the game’s full breadth.
- A short project: a one-month server can suit a focused challenge, but it is a poor match for a long architectural build.
Read the server label before joining
The label encodes both the social rules and the expected lifespan. “Squad,” “Trio” and “Duo” indicate the intended group size, while “Weekend Raids,” “No Raids” and “Daily Raids” describe when castles can be attacked. “Merciless” indicates a full-loot ruleset, where defeat can cost the equipment you were carrying.
| Official category | Published reset interval | What it implies |
|---|---|---|
| PvE Squad | 6 months | Cooperative progression without player raids; suitable for long builds. |
| PvE Squad Brutal | 6 months | Cooperative rules with Brutal combat and boss tuning. |
| PvP Squad Weekend Raids | 3 months | Squad-scale PvP with castle attacks restricted to the listed weekend window. |
| PvP Squad Brutal Weekend Raids | 3 months | Weekend-raids PvP combined with Brutal difficulty. |
| PvP Trio Weekend Raids | 3 months | Weekend-raids PvP for groups built around three players. |
| PvP Duo Weekend Raids | 3 months | Weekend-raids PvP for two-player groups. |
| PvP Squad No Raids | 1 month | Squad PvP with a short season and no player castle raids. |
| PvP Squad Merciless (full loot) Daily Raids | 1 month | Daily raid windows and full-loot PvP; the highest-risk, shortest-cycle option listed. |
These are policy categories, not a promise that every listing is available at every moment. Regional availability and individual server populations change. The PS5 launch listings, for example, showed Europe, US, China, Australia and Japan with PvE Cooperative worlds marked “6 Month Reset” and PvP Weekend Raid worlds marked “3 Month Reset.” Use the current browser entry for the server you are actually considering.
How to choose a server in the browser
- Open online play and the official server browser. Do this before creating your character; progression is tied to the server you select.
- Set the nearest practical region. A nearby region generally gives your group a better connection. If friends are spread across regions, favor the region that provides the most stable shared experience rather than a distant server with a lower population.
- Filter for the ruleset. Select PvE or PvP, then check Cooperative, Duo, Trio or Squad and the raid wording. Do not assume that all PvP servers have the same attack hours.
- Inspect age, population and reset information. Prefer a newer world when you want a full season of progression. A high population can mean an active community but also more competition for territory and resources; an empty listing may be peaceful but less social.
- Confirm difficulty. Verify Normal, Relaxed or Brutal in the listing rather than inferring it from the server name.
- Join only after checking the reset horizon. If the remaining season is short, scale your goals to a short run instead of beginning a major castle project.
Server populations and listings are live information. A static guide, launch table or friend’s old recommendation cannot tell you whether a particular world has just wiped or is about to reset.

- Colonize the Ocean: Build floating settlements and access natural resources hidden beneath the seas of the alien planet. Alien beasts with unique abilities inhabit the water and challenge the player in new ways. The ocean provides a fully replayable map, new gameplay mechanics and strategic possibilities for players to reign supreme on their new world
- Dynamic Leader Traits: Players and AI Leaders alike unlock new Traits through gameplay and activate different combinations to respond to the changing world. These dynamic sets of Traits also provide benefits and add to the new Diplomacy system, governed by the new Fear and Respect attributes.
- New, Enhanced Diplomatic Options: Shape the diplomatic landscape by using political capital to upgrade your traits, change diplomatic relationships, and leverage the benefits of your allies’ traits.
- New Sponsors: Four new factions have been added to the game including Al Falah, nomad explorers descended from wealthy and resilient Middle Eastern states that possess a rich cultural and commercial heritage.
- New Artifact System: Collect and combine powerful relics to unlock new perks, unit upgrades, and buildings for your faction on the new world.
PvE versus PvP: make the decision deliberately
Why PvE is the better learning environment
PvE lets you concentrate on the core loop: hunt for blood, gather materials, unlock crafting stations, defeat V Blood carriers and improve your castle. You can practice weapon swapping, movement abilities and boss patterns without another clan interrupting a fight or contesting your building location. It also makes it easier to learn how sunlight, shade and travel routes shape each day.
What PvP adds—and costs
PvP adds contested territory, ambushes and the need to defend a castle during the server’s raid window. The pressure can make resource runs and boss attempts exciting, but it also makes an inefficient base location or a poorly timed expedition expensive. Before joining, agree with your group on the intended schedule and risk tolerance. A Duo label is not interchangeable with Squad, and Weekend Raids are not the same commitment as Daily Raids.
Merciless and full-loot risk
The listed Merciless server uses full-loot PvP. Treat every expedition as a potential loss of carried gear, not merely a temporary defeat. New players should generally learn on PvE or a less punitive PvP format before choosing this ruleset.
Difficulty settings explained
| Difficulty | Developer-described changes | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Relaxed | Reduced sun damage, slower blood drain, lower enemy damage and lower V Blood boss health. | Players prioritizing a forgiving building and exploration experience. |
| Normal | The standard, tuned action-combat survival experience. | Most first playthroughs and groups learning the complete loop. |
| Brutal | Bosses can gain new behaviors and abilities, more health, higher levels and significantly more damage. Enemies hit harder; Brutal also drops more loot and drains item durability more slowly. | Players who already know Vardoran and want a demanding remixed challenge. |
Brutal is not simply Normal with larger numbers. New boss behaviors can invalidate an approach that worked on Normal, so the additional loot does not make it a beginner shortcut. Start on Normal unless everyone in the group already understands the progression, combat and boss patterns.
Surviving your first days
1. Treat daylight as a hard schedule
Vampires gain power after dusk, while direct sunlight is a lethal environmental threat. Plan exposed travel, gathering and fights around shade. Use nighttime for long crossings and dangerous resource runs when possible, and identify shelter points before leaving your castle. A route that is safe at night may be impossible at midday.

2. Build for function before decoration
Place storage and crafting stations close together so that every early trip advances several tasks. Choose a defensible location with practical travel access, then expand after you pass the first progression gates. Spending the opening hours on a large decorative footprint creates more walking, more exposed daylight travel and more construction cost before your character is ready to defend it.
3. Prepare before V Blood attempts
Carry repair materials, healing supplies and a retreat route before engaging a V Blood carrier. Check your equipment durability and blood quality, and avoid beginning a boss attempt when daylight will strand you in the open. A failed attempt is recoverable; a fight started without an escape plan can turn a small mistake into a long recovery trip.
4. Make blood quality part of your routine
Blood is both a survival resource and a source of temporary advantages. Do not leave for a difficult encounter without a usable blood supply, and remember that travel, combat and time away from your castle can drain it. Maintain a reserve of consumables and return to safety before taking on a boss whose arena or route you have not learned.

On a six-month PvE server, you can reasonably plan a staged castle and a broad progression run. On a one-month PvP server, prioritize key unlocks, compact defenses and group objectives. Check the reset horizon before spending hours on a project whose payoff would arrive after the world disappears.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can you transfer a character to another official server?
No. Stunlock’s July 2025 support guidance states that character transfers between servers are not supported in V Rising. Your progression, gear, castle and unlocked abilities remain on the server where the character was created. Joining a different official server means creating a new vampire, even when you use the same Steam or PlayStation account.

Copying save files may be technically possible for some private-hosting arrangements, but Stunlock says the method is unsupported, can cause instability and is unavailable on official servers. Do not join a new official world expecting to move your castle or equipment later.
What happens when an official server wipes?
A wipe ends that server season and resets its shared world. Because official servers are explicitly seasonal, plan your run around the published interval rather than treating a reset as an unexpected failure. Stunlock’s listed examples range from one month to six months. The exact date for an individual listing should be checked in the live browser and any current server notice.

When a private or dedicated server is a better fit
Choose a private or dedicated server when official reset schedules, raid windows or difficulty labels do not match your group. Stunlock documents Advanced Game Settings for private games, including adjustable multipliers for health, power and blood drain and world hazards such as garlic, silver and sun. Community servers can therefore provide a more tailored pace and a persistent world under the host’s control.
Private settings also create responsibilities: the host must maintain the save, select a region, coordinate access and verify that the current game version is compatible. Review the documented settings and dedicated-server requirements before committing. A private world changes the rules; it does not make progression transferable to an official server.
Quick decision checklist
- First serious run: recently opened official PvE Cooperative, Normal.
- Low-pressure building tour: PvE Relaxed.
- Experienced group seeking harder bosses: PvE or PvP Brutal.
- Player conflict: select PvP only after reading the group-size and raid-window labels.
- Long castle project: favor a six-month reset horizon.
- Short challenge or test season: a one-month listing can fit, if you accept the deadline.
- Need custom rules or persistence: use a private or dedicated server instead of expecting official transfers.
The Bottom Line
Join a fresh official PvE Cooperative Normal server, verify its region, population and reset date in the browser, and build around the day/night cycle. Move to PvP or Brutal only when the group understands the risks, and remember that every official character, castle and unlock set stays on its original server.
