To get Megingjord in Valheim, find Haldor in a Black Forest, collect 950 coins through loot and sales, then buy the belt from him. Haldor’s location is generated separately for each world, so there is no reliable compass direction or fixed coordinate to follow.
How to find Haldor
Haldor is a trader whose location depends on your world seed. A current Valheim 1.0 reference says his generated sites are at least 1,500 meters from the world center, and places him in the Black Forest. Use that distance as a search constraint, not as a promise that he is in a particular direction or even on your current island. ValheimHub Wiki’s Haldor reference reports the placement rule.
For a rough sense of how far to search, ValheimHub Wiki sampled 600 generated worlds. In that sample, the nearest Haldor site was 1,501 m from spawn in the closest case, the typical nearest distance was 1,869 m, and nine out of ten nearest placements were within 2,733 m. These are sample results, not guarantees for your seed.
- Explore Black Forest areas beyond the 1,500-meter threshold, prioritizing large areas you have not already searched.
- Do not assume Haldor will be north, south, or on the same island as your starting point.
- If you use a third-party seed map, first confirm it supports your game version and seed; the sources cited here do not validate any particular map tool’s 1.0 accuracy.
How to collect enough coins
Megingjord is listed at 950 coins. You can build your balance from found coins and by selling valuables to Haldor. A current guide reports coins in chests and dungeons and from some enemies; it also identifies rubies, amber, and silver necklaces as valuables you can sell. - Collect coins dropped by enemies when you encounter them.
- Keep rubies, amber, and silver necklaces to sell to Haldor rather than expecting a guaranteed coin yield from any one item.
How to buy and equip Megingjord
- Find Haldor and interact with him to open his shop.
- Buy Megingjord for 950 coins, the price listed in the current ValheimHub Wiki item database. ValheimHub Wiki’s Megingjord entry lists the price.
- Equip the belt from your inventory. PC Gamer reports that equipped Megingjord adds 150 carry weight. PC Gamer’s guide reports the effect.
What to know about other carry-capacity upgrades
Iron Gate’s Valheim 1.0 launch notes list “Upgradeable pockets” among the new content, but the available details here do not establish their cost, unlock path, or how they interact with Megingjord.
