Defeat Moder to unlock Wider Pockets for 1,000 coins, then defeat The Queen to unlock Deeper Pockets for 2,000 coins. Each upgrade adds an eight-slot row, increasing the standard 32-slot grid to 48 slots. Megingjord does not add slots; it raises your carry-weight limit instead.

How many inventory slots can you have in Valheim?
The standard character inventory has 32 grid slots. PC Gamer describes the starting layout as 24 regular inventory spaces plus eight hotbar slots, while Gamers.Wiki counts the same arrangement as a 32-slot grid. The two Haldor upgrades add 16 grid spaces in total.

| Wider Pockets | Defeat Moder, then purchase from Haldor | 1,000 coins | 8 | 40 |
| Deeper Pockets | Defeat The Queen, then purchase from Haldor | 2,000 coins | 8 | 48 |
| Both upgrades | Both bosses defeated and both purchases made | 3,000 coins total | 16 | 48 |
The upgrades expand storage capacity only. They do not increase the number of items you can place on the hotbar, and they do not change how much weight your character can carry. A full grid and an overweight character are separate problems, so the right solution depends on which limit you are hitting.
How to unlock and buy Wider Pockets
1. Find Haldor
Haldor is the trader associated with the Black Forest. His location is generated in your world, so search Black Forest areas and watch for the trader marker once he has been discovered. You must be able to reach his shop to make either pocket purchase.

2. Defeat Moder
Wider Pockets becomes available after Moder, the Mountain biome boss, has been defeated. The unlock is tied to the world’s boss progression; killing Moder before visiting Haldor is what makes the item appear in the trader’s inventory.
3. Bring 1,000 coins
Open Haldor’s shop after Moder is defeated and buy Wider Pockets for 1,000 coins. The purchase adds one eight-slot row immediately, taking the character from 32 to 40 grid slots.
4. Confirm the extra row
Close the trading window and open your inventory. The additional row is part of the character’s inventory interface, not a temporary buff or a container that must be equipped. If the row is missing, check that the purchase completed and that you are looking at the same character who bought it.
How to unlock and buy Deeper Pockets
1. Defeat The Queen
Deeper Pockets is gated behind The Queen, the Mistlands boss. Once The Queen has been defeated in the world, Haldor can sell the second upgrade.
2. Return to Haldor with 2,000 coins
Visit Haldor again and purchase Deeper Pockets for 2,000 coins. This adds another eight-slot row. With Wider Pockets already installed, the character reaches the 48-slot maximum described for the vanilla 1.0 inventory.

3. Plan for the full 3,000-coin budget
Buying both upgrades requires 1,000 coins for Wider Pockets plus 2,000 coins for Deeper Pockets: 3,000 coins altogether. You do not need to buy them in one visit, and the second purchase remains available after you have acquired the first.
Where to get the coins
Coins are the limiting resource for the two purchases, not a separate crafting material. PC Gamer lists several normal sources:
- Coins found in chests while exploring.
- Coins collected in dungeons.
- Coins dropped by monsters.
- Coins obtained by selling valuables to Haldor.
Sellable valuables include rubies, amber and silver necklaces. Before selling, check whether you still need an item for a recipe, decoration or personal collection; once sold, it is no longer available in your inventory unless you find another one. A practical approach is to keep a dedicated trader chest near your base, place valuables there during expeditions, and make a sale run when you are close to the next 1,000- or 2,000-coin threshold.
If you are saving for both upgrades, treat 3,000 coins as the target rather than spending every coin as soon as you reach Haldor. The first purchase is available after Moder, but the second cannot be used until The Queen has been defeated, giving you time to continue collecting valuables between boss fights.
What the pocket upgrades do—and what they do not do
They solve a full inventory grid
When every cell is occupied but your weight meter still has room, Wider Pockets or Deeper Pockets is the correct fix. Extra rows let you carry more distinct stacks, tools and equipment without throwing items on the ground or making repeated trips to a chest.

They do not raise the weight limit
Each item still contributes its normal weight. You can have empty cells and still become encumbered if the contents of your inventory are too heavy. The pocket purchases add capacity, not carrying strength.
They are permanent character upgrades
Gamers.Wiki reports that purchased rows remain attached to the character after death, logging out, reloading a save and moving between worlds. They are not consumables, timed effects or world objects that can be destroyed.
Does Megingjord give more slots?
No. Megingjord increases carry weight, not inventory size. The Valheim GameCore inventory reference lists a base carry-weight limit of 300 and a Megingjord bonus of +150, for a total of 450 while the belt is equipped. It does not add an inventory row or create additional cells.
| Problem you see | Likely limit | Useful solution |
|---|---|---|
| The grid is full and you cannot pick up another item | Slot count | Buy Wider Pockets or Deeper Pockets, or move items to storage |
| You have empty cells but the character is encumbered | Carry weight | Equip Megingjord, drop heavy items, or return to a chest |
| You are both full and encumbered on long resource runs | Both limits | Use the pocket upgrades and Megingjord together when the accessory slot is available |
Megingjord occupies the character’s accessory or belt slot. Using it alongside the pocket rows is therefore a loadout choice: the rows provide more places to store stacks, while the belt lets the combined contents weigh more before movement is restricted. Neither item removes the need to manage stack sizes, equipment and heavy ore.
Boss progression and multiplayer rules
The world unlock and the character purchase are different
In co-op, defeating a boss sets the relevant progression key for the world. That means the world can become eligible for Wider Pockets after one group defeats Moder and eligible for Deeper Pockets after The Queen falls. However, each character must pay Haldor separately. One player’s purchase does not unlock the rows for everyone else.

New characters start without another character’s rows
Purchased pocket rows belong to the character who bought them. A newly created character does not inherit upgrades from an older character, even when both characters enter the same world. That new character must meet the shop requirements and pay the listed prices independently.
Death does not remove the upgrades
A death can leave your equipment and ordinary inventory items in a tombstone, but the purchased rows themselves persist. After recovering the tombstone or respawning, the character retains the same expanded layout.

Vanilla upgrade checklist
- Locate Haldor in the Black Forest and make a note of his position.
- Defeat Moder.
- Save at least 1,000 coins, then buy Wider Pockets from Haldor.
- Verify that the first eight-slot row appears on the purchasing character.
- Defeat The Queen.
- Save 2,000 more coins, return to Haldor and buy Deeper Pockets.
- Use the inventory screen to confirm the 48-slot total.
If you have not reached The Queen yet, there is no vanilla way to buy the second row early. Storage chests, carts, portals that allow the relevant items, and shorter gathering trips are the interim ways to reduce backtracking.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Community option: Megingjord Overhaul
Players who use mods can install Megingjord Overhaul, a Thunderstore community mod that changes the belt’s function. Its listing for version 1.3.0 documents an eight-slot belt inventory row while Megingjord is equipped, a swappable second hotbar, drag-and-drop handling, persistence across save and load, tombstone handling on death, and portal restrictions for items that cannot normally be teleported.
Requirements
- Valheim version 0.219 or newer.
- BepInEx 5.4.2200 or newer.
- Megingjord equipped to access the added belt row.
What the mod changes
The added row is separate from the two vanilla Haldor rows. It is tied to the equipped belt, so removing Megingjord changes access to that belt storage. The second hotbar can reduce weapon and tool swapping during building or combat, but it also introduces another interface state to manage.

- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. It also provides Grommet Mounting installation choice, both options ensure stable and secure fixation for your 0.59" - 3.54" desk.
- Full-Motion Adjustment For Comfortable View - Pull the screen closer when you’re deep in a spreadsheet, push it back to watch videos, or rotate to portrait for coding — moving everything smoothly with just one hand. The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
- Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
Trade-offs and compatibility checks
Because this is a community mod rather than a vanilla feature, confirm the listed game and BepInEx versions before installing. Back up world and character saves, and check compatibility after Valheim updates or when adding other inventory, hotbar, equipment or portal mods. Portal restrictions still apply to non-teleportable items; an extra row does not make ore or other restricted materials eligible for teleportation.

Common problems and fixes
Wider Pockets is not listed after Moder
- Confirm that Moder was defeated in the world you are currently visiting.
- Return to the correct Haldor location; a trader in another world may not be the one you marked.
- Check your coin balance. The item costs 1,000 coins, not 1,000 of a sellable treasure.
- Leave and re-enter the trader interface after the boss fight if the shop was already open.
Deeper Pockets is not listed after The Queen
- Verify that The Queen was defeated, rather than another Mistlands encounter.
- Make sure you have the full 2,000-coin price available.
- Check the same character’s inventory after purchasing; another player’s upgrade does not transfer.
The row disappeared after dying or changing worlds
The vanilla rows are reported to persist through death, logout, reload and world changes. Reopen the inventory with the character who made the purchase and allow the save to finish. If the problem occurs only with a modded interface, disable conflicting inventory or UI mods on a backed-up copy and test the character there before making further changes.
I can carry more but still cannot pick up items
Megingjord may have solved your weight limit while leaving the slot limit unchanged. Free a cell, combine compatible stacks, return items to storage, or buy the next Haldor row if you have met its boss and coin requirements.
Choosing the right upgrade for a resource run
- Mining or woodcutting with a crowded grid: prioritize the Haldor rows, because ore, wood and gathered materials consume stacks and cells.
- Heavy equipment or loot with open cells: equip Megingjord and remove unnecessary heavy items.
- Long expeditions after both bosses: combine both vanilla rows with Megingjord when you can spare the accessory slot.
- Extra hotbar access or a belt-specific row: consider Megingjord Overhaul only after checking its version requirements, save-backup needs and multiplayer compatibility.
The vanilla progression is deliberately staged: one additional row becomes available after Moder, and the final row waits for The Queen. Managing chests and expedition routes remains useful even at 48 slots, because neither pocket upgrade changes item weight, stack limits or portal rules.
