Valor Mortis has 24 side quests in the PC launch build (Steam build 25907482). They span the Battlefield, Valley of Ashes, Fallen Village, Caverns, Vale of Wrath, Cursed Hollow, the Outskirts, City of Orphans, Fortress and Napoleon’s Prison. Six award achievements, seven have choice-dependent outcomes, and two collectibles must be tracked separately: 17 Monster Hunt drawings and seven Oathbound emblems.
Most quests can be completed after their associated story chapter. The practical exception is The Choir: its prison area is available during Chapter 10: Shackled, so enter the warden’s quarters before that temporary section closes.

How many side quests are in Valor Mortis?
The current PC launch-build count is 24 side quests. MetaBot’s October 15, 2026 guide says every number comes from Steam build 25907482, datamined October 13, 2026. The count includes the multi-region The Oathbound quest, which begins as a long-running collectible hunt rather than a single local objective.
Six quests are tied to achievements: An Unheard Farewell, The Deserter, The Curious Case of Seamus Diggory, Laudanum, Monster Hunt and The Oathbound. MetaBot also identifies seven quests with choice-dependent outcomes; the most consequential documented choices concern the Adjutant Sous-Officier, The Emissary’s timing, The Scarecrow’s evidence, The Choir’s prison window and whether you spare the Mice’s parents.

Missable quests and timing warnings
The Choir: finish it in Chapter 10
PowerPyx describes The Choir as the only practically missable side quest because Napoleon’s Prison is temporarily accessible during Chapter 10: Shackled. Complete the warden’s-quarters objective during that chapter. MetaBot’s launch-build data does not officially flag a quest as missable, so the safest interpretation is to treat the Chapter 10 prison visit as your deadline rather than rely on post-story availability.
Most other quests remain available
PowerPyx’s campaign guidance says side quests generally remain available after the story. That makes The Choir the one timing check to put on your main quest tracker; the other entries can normally be cleaned up later, subject to their local prerequisites.

Choice-dependent quests: what to decide before committing
An Unheard Farewell
The elevator route is the important physical requirement: unblock the elevator, ride it down from the top, jump to the mid-shaft ledge, burn the wall and take the notes after defeating the soldier. PC Gamer reports that telling the truth gives Sleight of Hand and a catalyst follow-up after resting; lying also gives Sleight of Hand, then leads to a Remnant’s Return in the scouts’ cave. MetaBot’s launch-build data records Lucky Shot or Sleight of Hand by outcome and notes that Sleight of Hand has no other source. If you are collecting every Amber or planning an achievement-focused run, make a save before the conversation.
The Emissary
Do not treat the abandoned-camp seal as a finish-line. The poison clouds cannot be crossed until you obtain Shield Transmutation at the university later in the campaign. Return with that ability to complete the route and claim the listed Amber.

The Scarecrow
There are three evidence points, and missing one is the usual cause of an apparently stalled quest: the medallion is by the cross/tree, the drawing note is upstairs in the house near Fields, and the final echo is in the nearby barn hayloft. Bring the first two items back before climbing into the hayloft.
Mummy and Daddy
The parents can be killed, but the journal then states that the Mice will never aid William again. Play the music box to calm them if you want to retain later Mice assistance and gift opportunities. This is a future-access decision, not merely a combat outcome.

Other documented outcome branches
Sleeping Beauty has a Catalyst payout that changes between 2,000 and 3,000. Misericorde asks for a direct mercy decision concerning the suffering soldier. MetaBot counts seven choice-dependent quests overall; the launch-build notes identify these branches and the outcomes above without establishing a separate consequence for every remaining choice.

MetaBot reports a 0.2% Steam unlock rate for both The Book of Beasts and We Wear the Same Colours. Those figures reflect the guide’s October 2026 snapshot, not a permanent completion rate.

A practical completion route
- Keep a two-part checklist. Mark ordinary quest names separately from the 17 Monster Hunt drawings and seven Oathbound emblems; the collectibles are distributed differently from the local quest starts.
- Take every local lead when you enter a region. Letter trails, notes, manifests, songs, drawings and environmental investigations start several quests without a conventional quest-giver.
- Record prerequisite abilities and keys. Weathered Key, Toy, Silver Lockpick, Shield Transmutation and the music box each gate a specific objective or outcome.
- Make a manual save before irreversible conversations. This is especially important for An Unheard Farewell, Misericorde and Mummy and Daddy, where dialogue or mercy choices alter rewards or future assistance.
- Use the Chapter 10 prison window deliberately. Complete The Choir before leaving the temporary Napoleon’s Prison area, then continue with the rest of the campaign.
- Finish the Oathbound in the fortress chamber. The quest is not complete when the seventh emblem is picked up; return to the fortress chamber to close it and receive achievement progress.
Rewards worth prioritizing
The largest named currency payouts are attached to The Choir (6,000 Catalysts), The Curious Case of Seamus Diggory (4,000), The Shrike’s Anthem, Till Death and Mummy and Daddy (3,000 each), plus the 3,000-Catalyst branch of Sleeping Beauty. Amber rewards include Lucky Shot or Sleight of Hand, Tomorrow’s Promise, Bottomless Well, Perfect Copy and Bountiful Harvest. Material-focused players should also note the Distilled Transmutation Material from Sleeping Beauty, the Mythic Catalyst Clot from Laudanum and the two Ferrofluid Flask Power Upgrades from Seamus Diggory.
For a completionist run, prioritize availability and exclusivity over raw currency: complete The Choir in Chapter 10, protect the desired Mice outcome with the music box, and resolve the Adjutant conversation only after deciding which Amber branch matters more to your build.
