Choose Valor Mortis if you want an explicitly first-person soulslike built around parries, dashes, finishers, supernatural powers and an alternate-history Napoleonic plague. Choose Lies of P if you prefer an established single-player soulslike that reimagines Pinocchio in Belle Époque Krat, with modular weapon combinations, Legion Arms and meaningful lie-or-truth decisions.
There is no evidence-based winner for parry quality, difficulty or overall merit yet. The official materials describe each game’s identity and systems, but they do not provide controlled comparisons or measured parry windows. Valor Mortis’s PlayStation listing scheduled launch for October 13, 2026 at 18:00 UTC; check its live storefront status for your region before buying.

Steam’s Valor Mortis listing identifies the game as a first-person action soulslike from One More Level, with Lyrical Games and One More Level listed as publishers. You play William, a former soldier in Napoleon’s army who is revived during a plague and drawn into a supernatural conspiracy.
#1 Best Overall
- The essence of battle: Wield and master various weapons with unique combinations of Fable Arts and Legion Arms to find out what fits your playstyle
- Variety of attraction: Enjoy the beautiful, yet dark atmosphere of the Belle Époque era and explore the once prosperous city of Krat
- Lie system: P is made of a puppet's heart, but he learns how to think and feel like a human by lying
- Legacy of the classics: The city of Krat, the characters, and even the smallest objects reflect our deepest admiration for the original tale of Pinocchio
The first-person viewpoint is not a minor presentation choice. It changes how attacks, spacing and incoming threats are read compared with a conventional over-the-shoulder action RPG. The official descriptions make the viewpoint explicit, while the PlayStation Store description groups parries with dashes, finishers, weapons and supernatural powers. That combination makes reactive defense and movement part of the game’s advertised combat language rather than an incidental option.
The setting combines an alternate-history 19th-century Europe with horror. The plague, William’s resurrection and Napoleon’s Eternal Guard supply the central mystery, according to the official PlayStation Store description. Players choosing this game are therefore choosing both a combat experiment and a specific historical-fantasy atmosphere: military imagery, epidemic dread and supernatural investigation.
Why the first-person format matters for a parry player
A first-person soulslike can make a parry feel immediate because the opponent occupies the same forward-facing view as the player’s weapon and hands. It can also make spatial judgment more dependent on readable attack cues and camera control. Those are design implications, not measured claims about Valor Mortis’s timing or difficulty. No official source supplied a frame count, window length, input buffer or comparison with Lies of P.

What Lies of P is trying to be
NEOWIZ presents Lies of P as a soulslike reimagining of Pinocchio in a bloodied, Belle Époque-inspired Krat. Its official feature description emphasizes dynamic weapon combinations, Legion Arms, new abilities and decisions about whether to lie or tell the truth.
Rank #2
- Discover where the journey began - Experience the original brutal challenge, completely remade from the ground up. All presented in stunning visual quality with enhanced performance, this is the world of Boletaria as you have never seen it before.
- Become the Slayer of Demons - Venture to the northern kingdom of Boletaria – a once prosperous land of knights, now beset with unspeakable creatures and ravenous demons. Meet strange characters, unhinged and twisted by the world around them, and unravel the unsettling story of Demon’s Souls.
- Face the world’s greatest warriors in ferocious PVP combat - With online invasions adding to the danger of your quest. Or play cooperatively by summoning allies to aid in your fight against the demons. Active PS Plus subscription required for online multiplayer.
That gives Lies of P a different center of gravity from Valor Mortis. Its pitch is not built around one unusual viewpoint; it is built around a recognizable literary premise, a richly defined city and systems that let you alter weapons by combining components. Legion Arms add another layer of equipment and ability choice, while the lie-or-truth mechanic ties player decisions to the story’s Pinocchio theme.
The supplied official materials describe its combat systems but do not establish a numerical parry window, a comparative success rate or a claim that its defensive timing is better than Valor Mortis’s. Treat “parry-focused” as a reason to investigate both games, not as proof that either one has superior execution.
Weapon combinations and Legion Arms as the deciding systems
In Lies of P, weapon construction is a headline feature. The ability to combine weapons gives experimentation a larger role than simply finding a stronger finished weapon. Legion Arms provide a separate ability framework, so your build decisions are not limited to the main weapon in your hands. If you enjoy changing a moveset or planning around several tools, these systems may matter more than the games’ shared soulslike label.
Valor Mortis instead foregrounds a bundle of parries, dashes, finishers, weapons and supernatural powers. The official information does not describe an equivalent assembly system, so a player who wants modular weapon creation has a clearer reason to start with Lies of P.
Which game has the stronger parry identity?
On the evidence available, Valor Mortis has the clearer explicit claim. Both the Steam listing and the PlayStation Store page call out parries as part of its action design. The official Lies of P pages supplied for this comparison highlight weapon combinations, Legion Arms and abilities, but do not give an equivalent technical description of parry timing.

- Join Kliff, captain of the Greymanes, and his comrades as they embark on a relentless journey to defend Pywel and fulfill their mission.
- Along your perilous path stands both dependable allies and countless foes who will stop at nothing to see your downfall.
- Face trials to uncover the truth of the catastrophe looming over Pywel and restore peace to the continent.
- Explore the mesmerizing landscapes of the continent where mystical beings, hidden treasures, and thrilling adventures await.
- Pre-order to receive the Khaled Shield (Pre Order Code on Receipt). PS5 Editions include the Grotevant Plate Set DLC as a PS5 exclusive bonus. (In Pack DLC Voucher). Bonus DLC Includes: Grotevan Plate Helm, Grotevan Plate Armor, along with Grotevan cloak, gloves, and boots!
That distinction is about documented emphasis, not quality. A feature being named in a store description cannot tell you whether attacks are easy to read, whether failed attempts are heavily punished, or whether a successful defense feels satisfying after dozens of hours. No hands-on testing or controlled benchmark establishes those points here.
Pick Valor Mortis when your priority is
- An explicitly first-person action soulslike.
- A combat pitch that names parries alongside dashes and finishers.
- A supernatural power set tied to a plague-era alternate history.
- A less familiar setting centered on Napoleon’s army, resurrection and the Eternal Guard.
Pick Lies of P when your priority is
- A Pinocchio reinterpretation in a Belle Époque city.
- Experimenting with dynamic weapon combinations.
- Using Legion Arms and other abilities as part of build planning.
- A game with a broader officially listed platform range and an established update history.
World, story and tone
Valor Mortis: Napoleonic plague horror
William’s past as a soldier, his resurrection and the plague form the entry point into Valor Mortis’s mystery. The PlayStation description also invokes Napoleon’s Eternal Guard and a supernatural conspiracy. Expect a world shaped by military history and horror rather than a direct adaptation of a familiar fairy tale.
This setting is the stronger match if you want historical divergence, diseased landscapes and a protagonist whose identity is tied to an army and an unexplained return from death. Its specificity is also its risk: a player uninterested in Napoleonic imagery may find the premise less immediately inviting than Lies of P’s literary hook.
Lies of P: Pinocchio in Krat
Lies of P recasts Pinocchio in a Belle Époque-inspired Krat described by NEOWIZ as bloodied. The lie-or-truth choice is directly connected to the source story’s central idea, while the city supplies a coherent setting for the game’s monsters and conflicts.
Choose this world if you prefer gothic urban spectacle, a recognizable character reworked into a darker form and story decisions that echo the fiction’s theme. The official description does not promise a historically accurate Belle Époque simulation; it presents an inspired, stylized setting.

Platforms, single-player support and availability
Valor Mortis launch timing
The Canadian PlayStation product page listed Valor Mortis for October 13, 2026 at 18:00 UTC and identified a one-player PlayStation 5 version with offline play enabled: PlayStation’s product page. That time was later than the October 13, 2026 date shown in the indexed Steam listing.
The indexed Steam result also displayed “This game is not yet available on Steam” and a countdown saying it would unlock in approximately four days. Those statements conflicted with one another and with the timed PlayStation listing. Do not use the countdown as a launch-time source. Check the live Steam and PlayStation pages for your territory before treating Valor Mortis as available, and confirm whether the edition you want is supported on your hardware.
Lies of P platform footprint
NEOWIZ’s support page lists Lies of P for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Mac, Steam and the Epic Games Store. It also states that the game is single-player and has no multiplayer functions.
NEOWIZ’s version 1.13.1.0 notes, dated August 5, 2026, state that Lies of P became available on Epic Games Store for Windows and that its Complete Edition became available on Nintendo Switch 2: the official update notes. These are dated release notes, not a guarantee of current regional stock, pricing or store terms. Check your local storefront for the exact edition and language options before purchase.
What the platform difference means
If you need to play on an older console, a Mac or Nintendo Switch 2, Lies of P has the broader officially documented footprint. Valor Mortis’s cited materials establish a PlayStation 5 version and a Steam listing, but they do not establish a comparable console range or a physical retail edition. Do not assume that a store listing proves a disc version, retailer inventory or cross-save support.
Best Value
- Reactive Turn-based Combat: Craft unique builds for your Expeditioners that fit your playstyle via gear, stats, skills, and &character synergies
- Dodge, parry, and counter in real time, chain combos by mastering attack rhythms, and target enemy weak points using a free aim system

- Explore an enchanting realm populated by adversaries; Wander through breathtaking landscapes, from Island of Visages to the Forgotten Battlefield
- Experience the debut game from Sandfall Interactive, fully realized in Unreal Engine 5 with stunning graphics and a heartbreaking soundtrack
How to choose without pretending there is a universal winner
- Start with viewpoint. If first-person combat is essential, Valor Mortis is the only one of the two whose cited official materials explicitly identify that perspective. The supplied Lies of P pages describe combat systems but do not specify its camera; verify current official gameplay material if viewpoint is decisive.
- Separate advertised mechanics from measured feel. Valor Mortis advertises parries, dashes and finishers. Lies of P advertises weapon combinations, Legion Arms and abilities. Neither set of descriptions proves a better timing window, lower difficulty or more reliable hit detection.
- Choose the world you want to inhabit. Pick plague-era Napoleonic horror and resurrection for Valor Mortis, or Pinocchio, Belle Époque Krat and lie-or-truth decisions for Lies of P.
- Check your hardware and storefront. Lies of P has the wider official platform list. Valor Mortis requires particular care because the cited launch information was time-specific and the indexed Steam availability text was inconsistent.
- Decide whether experimentation or novelty matters more. Weapon assembly and Legion Arms make Lies of P the more obvious choice for a player who enjoys build tinkering. First-person presentation and the explicit parry-dash-finisher pitch make Valor Mortis the more distinctive prospect.
- Use post-launch evidence for timing questions. If your purchase depends on parry-window strictness, enemy readability, performance or technical stability, wait for current gameplay evidence rather than treating store copy as a performance test.
Common mistakes when comparing them
Assuming “parry-focused” means identical combat
The label does not make the systems interchangeable. Valor Mortis’s official descriptions explicitly foreground parries within a first-person action system. Lies of P’s supplied descriptions foreground combinations, Legion Arms and abilities. Compare the actual implementation after watching current gameplay, not just the shared genre vocabulary.
Calling Valor Mortis released without checking the time
A calendar date alone was insufficient in the cited PlayStation listing, which specified 18:00 UTC. Storefront pages can also cache contradictory countdown or availability text. Confirm the live product page and your region’s purchase status.
Inferring quality from platform breadth
Lies of P’s wider platform availability is useful for access, but it does not establish better combat, performance or value. Conversely, Valor Mortis’s narrower documented footprint does not prove that its combat is more focused or polished.
Assuming a physical edition or retailer stock
The cited sources establish digital platform listings and dated release information. They do not verify a physical Valor Mortis edition, a specific Lies of P disc SKU, regional inventory or retailer terms. Confirm the format you need directly on the relevant store.
Verdict: which should you play?
Play Valor Mortis if your highest priority is a first-person soulslike with an explicitly advertised parry, dash and finisher loop, and if its alternate-history Napoleonic plague setting appeals to you. It is the bolder choice because its viewpoint and premise stand apart from the usual third-person fantasy template. Its launch status and the eventual quality of its timing-based combat should be checked against current storefront and gameplay evidence.
Play Lies of P if you want the more established option, need broad hardware support or are most interested in combining weapons, equipping Legion Arms and exploring a Pinocchio-inspired story in Krat. Its official support and update pages document a wide platform footprint and an active release history.
If you are choosing solely on which game has the “better” parry, the responsible answer is not settled by the available official descriptions. Valor Mortis has the stronger documented parry identity; Lies of P has the stronger documented customization and platform case. Your preferred viewpoint, setting, build experimentation and current availability should decide the purchase.
