Who is Gekko in VALORANT?
Riot introduced Gekko as a Los Angeles native and an Initiator, a role suited to helping a team gather information and contest space. His crew—Dizzy, Wingman, Thrash, and Mosh—gives him a mix of scouting, disruption, area pressure, and Spike utility. Riot’s Episode 6 Act II announcement describes the crew’s jobs as clearing corners, scouting areas, and helping plant or defuse the Spike.
What are Gekko’s abilities?
Gekko’s utility is built around directing his creatures, then recovering some of them after use. Exact charges, cooldowns, damage, and timings can change with balance patches; the descriptions below focus on each ability’s function rather than presenting launch-era numbers as current.
Dizzy
Dizzy sends plasma blasts at enemies. Riot has adjusted Dizzy’s firing delay and projectile speed since release, so old launch figures should not be treated as live values.

Wingman
Wingman seeks out enemies and sends a concussive blast toward the first enemy he sees. Using the alternate fire directs him to plant the Spike at a site or defuse a planted Spike. For a plant, Gekko must have the Spike in his inventory. When Wingman expires, he becomes a globule that can be reclaimed after a short cooldown.
Thrash
Gekko steers Thrash to search for enemies and pounce on them in a plasmatic burst. It is also Gekko’s ultimate. Riot has changed Thrash’s pickup timing since launch; its current timing and other live-build values should be checked in-game.

Mosh Pit
Mosh lands, duplicates across a large area, and then explodes. Riot changed Mosh Pit’s damage to objects in Patch 6.06, so launch-era object damage is not a reliable guide to its current behavior.
Protospheres: reclaiming used abilities
After use, Gekko’s abilities can transform into Protospheres. Interact with a nearby Protoshpere after its short cooldown to reclaim it and gain another charge. This recovery loop is the key to using Gekko: when it is safe, return to a creature’s globule rather than treating every deployment as permanently spent.

What does Gekko’s ultimate do?
Thrash is Gekko’s ultimate. At the functional level described in Riot’s launch overview, Gekko steers Thrash to find and pounce on enemies in a plasmatic burst. The available official description does not establish a complete current specification, including exact duration, control details, detain behavior, health, or ultimate cost. Those specifics can depend on the live build and should be confirmed in the current client or official patch notes.
When did Gekko come out, and where is the trailer?
Riot announced Gekko and released him with Episode 6 Act II on March 7, 2023. The same-day Patch Notes 6.04 say “Gekko goes live!” and link to the Agent abilities page and launch trailer. Riot’s Jeff Landa described the trailer this way: “Watch the latest Initiator and his friends take on Los Angeles in the launch trailer.”

How Gekko’s kit has changed since launch
Riot’s patch notes document several post-launch adjustments. The figures below are historical changes published on the dates shown, not confirmation of current live values.

These are dated patch-note values and behaviors. They show why a launch guide can become stale, but do not establish every change made after 2023. Check the current client and current official notes before relying on exact cooldowns, charges, damage, durations, or ultimate cost.
