What the 2027 format changes
Riot describes 2027 as its biggest tour yet: more than 50 tournaments spanning Opens, Kickoffs, Cups, Masters and Champions. The system is designed to keep qualification open throughout the year rather than limiting access to a small set of franchised or invited teams.
Opens create the entry point
Regional Opens are the first competitive layer. Teams can enter local or regional competition, with Open winners becoming champions of their areas and earning routes toward Cups and, ultimately, global events. Riot has not published a complete rulebook showing every roster requirement, seeding rule or registration deadline.

Kickoffs start the main calendar
The four Kickoffs run simultaneously across the Americas, EMEA, Pacific and China from January 14 through February 7. They establish the first regional results of the season before Masters 1 begins in Seoul on February 20.
Cups connect regional play to global stages
Cup 1 places one event in each of the four regions from April 29 to May 23. Cup 2 repeats that four-region structure from August 5 to August 29. These are regional stops, while Masters and Champions are global stages reached through results earned earlier in the tour.

When qualification begins
The first 2027 qualification activity starts in November 2026, when Kickoff qualifiers open. That means teams and players must prepare before the January event window. Riot says open qualification continues during the season, so a team that misses an early route may still have opportunities through later Opens and regional competitions. Exact sign-up pages, eligibility rules and match formats were not included in the location announcement and should be checked when Riot publishes them.
How to read the city list
- Regional hubs: São Paulo, Berlin, Bangkok and Hangzhou host the four Kickoffs; Mexico City, Warsaw, Manila and Wuhan host Cup 1; Rio de Janeiro, Istanbul, Tokyo and Shanghai host Cup 2.
- Global Masters: Seoul hosts Masters 1 and Valencia hosts Masters 2.
- Final destination: Austin hosts both the Valorant Champions season finale and the Game Changers Championship from September 16 to October 10.
- Total: The announced schedule covers 15 distinct cities.
What is confirmed—and what is still unknown
Riot’s October 15, 2026 announcement confirms the dates, cities, event categories and open-qualification direction. It does not name arenas, publish ticket-release dates, specify broadcast partners or list commercial partner programs. Those details should not be treated as confirmed until Riot issues separate event information.

Sheep Esports reported that the season carries more than $7 million in prize money. That figure is a reported overall amount, not a published breakdown for each Kickoff, Cup, Masters or championship, so individual event payouts remain unspecified.
Why the open system matters
Anna Donlon, Head of VALORANT Studios, and Leo Faria, Global Head of VALORANT Esports, described the concept to Sheep Esports on October 15, 2026 as a tournament where established stars can meet players who have not yet become well known. In practical terms, the 2027 structure gives local Open winners a visible progression: regional title, Cup opportunity, Masters contention and a possible Champions run. The route is broader than simply following the teams already prominent in international play, although advancing still depends on the qualification rules and results Riot has yet to publish in full.

Planning around the calendar
For viewers, the season has clear checkpoints: Kickoffs in January and early February, Masters 1 in late February and early March, Cup 1 in May, Masters 2 in June, Cup 2 in August, and the Austin finales in September and October. Travelers should wait for official venue and ticket announcements before booking around a specific arena. The city and date information above is the confirmed planning baseline for the 2027 tour.
