Yes, cheats are possible in VALORANT. Riot says Vanguard and the game’s other defenses are designed to make cheating harder to develop and maintain, detect it, and remove cheaters—not to guarantee that cheating never happens. Reports can help trigger scrutiny, but they are not proof that a player cheated.
Are there cheats in VALORANT?
Yes. Riot’s anti-cheat team said in a 2020 developer explanation, “Yes, cheats are still possible in VALORANT—there are already some examples out in the wild.” Riot describes anti-cheat as an ongoing effort: defenses raise the difficulty and cost of cheating, but do not make it impossible.
Riot’s published figures show enforcement over time, but they do not establish current prevalence for VALORANT by rank, region, or cheat type. In 2024, Riot said it had banned more than 3.6 million VALORANT accounts for cheating during Vanguard’s first four years—roughly one ban every 37 seconds across that historical period. The total counts accounts, not distinct people, and excludes separate actions against botting, boosting, and intentionally queueing with cheaters. Riot’s four-year retrospective is not a current cheating rate.
Riot also reported in 2026 that about 0.7% of PC ranked matches across League of Legends and VALORANT combined were affected by a cheater. That figure is for two games together; it is not a VALORANT-only rate, nor does it mean 0.7% of players cheat. Riot’s 2026 anti-cheat update discusses kernel-level cheating, Direct Memory Access abuse, and computer-vision cheats as prominent concerns, without publishing a VALORANT-specific breakdown.

How does Riot detect cheaters in VALORANT?
Riot calls its approach “defense in depth”: several measures are intended to make cheating harder, identify suspicious play, and respond when evidence warrants action. No single measure is a guarantee.
- Game design: Riot cites Fog of War and server-authoritative movement as design choices that limit what a client can know or control.
- Anti-tamper controls: Vanguard is part of the effort to prevent interference with the game and identify prohibited activity.
- Detection and analysis: Riot combines automated detection with data analysis and machine-learning research.
- Reports and review: Player reports help surface suspicious activity and can inform automated scrutiny and manual investigation.
- Enforcement: Riot says responses can include account or hardware actions. It may use ban waves to make detection harder for cheat developers to predict, while sometimes acting sooner against disruptive players.
Riot’s explanation of this layered approach is in its VALORANT anti-cheat overview. It describes the intended effect—raising the difficulty and cost of developing and maintaining cheats—not a promise that every cheat will be detected immediately.

Can Vanguard ban you for cheating?
Riot’s published enforcement record confirms that it bans accounts for cheating, and its anti-cheat material describes hardware actions as one part of enforcement. The exact action in an individual case depends on Riot’s findings; a player’s suspicion or report alone does not establish that a ban is warranted.
Do not confuse an enforcement action for cheating with a Vanguard security restriction that prevents the game from launching. Riot says a restriction can occur because required security features are disabled or because of a pre-boot weakness affecting IOMMU. A restriction does not necessarily mean Riot suspects the player of cheating. Follow the requested security guidance or the motherboard manufacturer’s instructions for firmware updates; Riot’s Vanguard restrictions support article explains this distinction.

How do I report a suspected cheater?
- Use VALORANT’s in-game reporting tools to report the player you suspect. Choose the option that best matches the conduct you observed.
- Describe the behavior as clearly as possible. A report is a signal for review, not a finding of guilt.
- For suspected boosting or other rank manipulation, use the in-game Rank Manipulation category, which Riot specifically identifies for reporting boosters.
Riot says reports can feed automated scrutiny, including more intensive game-integrity scans, and help analysts prioritize manual reviews. They can also help investigators identify cheats that may improve future automated detection. Riot’s account of how reporting supports anti-cheat work also shows why reports should not be treated as verdicts: in the historical data it presented, 53% of banned cheaters had been reported before their ban, while only 60% of players who received 20 reports were banned after review. The same article said 97% of players in that dataset had never received a cheating report. These are historical figures, not current rates, and they show that reports and bans do not map one-to-one.

- Boosting: using a lower-ranked account to inflate rank.
- Win-trading: coordinating match outcomes instead of competing. Riot defines it as “a form of cheating where players coordinate to influence the outcome of a match instead of actually competing.”
- Stream sniping: using a live broadcast to gain unfair information or disrupt a match.
Riot says confirmed cases may result in account suspensions, rank or reward reversions, and permanent bans for repeated or severe abuse. Its competitive-integrity announcement describes these related violations and their possible consequences. If you report suspected boosting, Riot directs players to the Rank Manipulation category in-game.

- Scope: Is the claim about VALORANT alone or multiple Riot games? Does it count PC ranked matches, accounts, or players?
- Evidence: Is it a Riot-published aggregate, a documented enforcement action, a player report, or an unverified clip or anecdote?
- Time period: Does the number describe a historical window or a current rate? A past total cannot establish today’s prevalence.
- Action type: Is it automated detection, manual review, a hardware action, a security restriction, or a penalty for rank manipulation?
Riot’s figures are company-reported and should be read within the scope each source states. They document Riot’s own enforcement and assessments; they do not provide an independently verified, current breakdown of cheating by VALORANT rank, region, or method.
