VALORANT PC system requirements
Riot publishes three broad performance tiers. They are targets, not guarantees: resolution, graphics settings, drivers, background applications, cooling and the intensity of a match all affect frame rate and consistency.
| Target | CPU | GPU | Riot’s listed target |
|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum | Intel i3-540 or AMD Athlon 200GE | Intel HD 4000 or AMD Radeon R5 220 | 30 FPS |
| Recommended | Intel i3-4150 or AMD Ryzen 3 1200 | NVIDIA GeForce GT 730 or AMD Radeon R7 240 | 60 FPS |
| Higher-performance tier | Intel i5-9400F 2.90 GHz or AMD Ryzen 5 2600X | NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti, AMD Radeon R7 370 or Intel Arc A310 | 144 FPS |
Riot’s published requirements also specify:
- 4 GB of RAM.
- 64-bit Windows 10, build 190415 or later, or Windows 11.
- DirectX 11 support.
- SSE 4.2 or AVX support.
- At least 1 GB of VRAM when using a discrete graphics card.
- No support for ARM processors, cloud gaming or virtual machines.
See Riot’s current PC specifications and support documentation before installing, particularly if your system uses unusual hardware or an emulated environment.
What the performance tiers really mean
A PC that reaches the minimum tier may launch the game and approach Riot’s 30-FPS target, but that does not make it ideal for competitive play. For a smoother experience, aim for stable performance rather than a brief peak frame-rate number. A 144-FPS-class specification is not a promise of 144 FPS at every resolution, graphics setting or moment in a match.
Recommended Free Tools
Frame rate is how many frames the PC renders. Refresh rate is how many frames the monitor can display. Latency is the delay between an input and the visible response, while network ping is the connection round-trip time to the game server. A high-refresh monitor helps only when the PC can sustain suitably high frame rates.
Does VALORANT work on Windows 11?
Yes. However, Riot requires TPM 2.0 and UEFI Secure Boot for Windows 11 systems. Vanguard can also apply additional restrictions to particular hardware or security configurations.
To check TPM in Windows:
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter
tpm.mscand press Enter. - Check whether the TPM is present, enabled and ready for use.
You can use msinfo32 to view system information before investigating firmware settings. If TPM or Secure Boot is disabled, consult your motherboard or PC manufacturer’s instructions. BIOS and UEFI menus differ, and changing firmware settings incorrectly can prevent Windows from booting. Do not blindly change options based on a generic guide.
What is Riot Vanguard?
Riot Vanguard is the anti-cheat system required for VALORANT on PC. Riot describes it as using system-level protections to help prevent cheating. It is not an optional add-on for Windows play, so installing VALORANT also means accepting Vanguard’s presence and its compatibility requirements.

Vanguard may require a restart after installation or an update. Outdated Windows versions, disabled security features or incompatible configurations can block the game before it launches. Errors beginning with VAN often indicate a Vanguard, security or connection-related problem rather than an ordinary game crash.
This creates a practical trade-off: Vanguard is central to Riot’s competitive-integrity model, but players who dislike anti-cheat software with system-level access may prefer not to install VALORANT. Requirements vary by Windows version, hardware and error, so do not assume every player must manually enable every advanced security feature.
What happens on first launch?
The first launch commonly involves Riot account authentication, launcher or game updates and Vanguard initialization. A restart may be required. After that, configure your resolution, display mode, sensitivity, key bindings, audio and communication preferences.
New players should begin with the tutorial, practice range or an unranked mode instead of Competitive. Riot may change the onboarding sequence, and not every first-run screen is permanently mandatory. You may also encounter account progression and Agent-unlock steps before every Agent is available.
What kind of game is VALORANT?
VALORANT combines precision shooting with character abilities, economy management and information control. In the standard format, two teams of five alternate between attack and defense. Each player normally has one life per round, and players who die wait for the next round.
Before rounds, teams spend earned currency on weapons, armor and abilities. The buy decision matters: saving for a stronger future round can be better than purchasing immediately. Riot’s beginner guide describes a side switch after 12 rounds in the standard format. The result is neither a conventional shooter nor a pure hero shooter; success depends on how gunplay, ability timing, map control, sound and team communication interact.
Agents and their roles
Agents have distinct abilities and broad functional roles:

- [Valorant 3D Crystal Figure] - Advanced 3D laser engraving technology makes clear displays of the details of costumes, weapons, and agent poses. The agent is laser engraved in the transparent K9 crystal.
- [3D Visual Effect] - RGBW 16 LED colors with 4 dynamic lighting modes(Flash/Strobe/Fade/Smooth) make the game character figure more active and lifelike. You can also change the light brightness.
- [Special Gaming Gift] - Valorant 3D game character figure will be a perfect decoration on a gaming desk. It will be a special gaming gift for gamers, boyfriends, adults, and teens.
- [How to Use] - The RGBW 16 colorful LED lamp wood stand is equipped with a USB cable. You can change 16 LED colors & 4 lighting modes by using the remote control.
- [Compact Size] Valorant 3D Game Character figure crystal size is 50x50x80 mm / 1.97x1.97x3.15 inch, and wood stand size is 80x80x20 mm (80 mm diameter) / 3.15x3.15x0.79 inch (3.15 inch diameter).
- Duelists: create entry pressure and take aggressive engagements.
- Initiators: gather information and support site entry.
- Controllers: block vision and shape areas with smokes or similar utility.
- Sentinels: defend territory with traps, information tools and area control.
These categories are useful starting points, not rigid rules. Individual abilities and balance change over time, and new accounts do not necessarily have every Agent unlocked. You can learn the game without memorizing the entire roster; start with one role and a small number of maps and abilities.
Modes, maps and updates
Riot’s official site highlights Competitive, Unranked, Deathmatch and Spike Rush alongside Agent-based tactical combat. The beginner experience also includes shorter or alternative options such as Swiftplay, depending on current availability.
Current snapshot as of August 18, 2026: Riot’s site identifies Season 26 Act IV content, including the Summit map and the limited-time Retake mode. Riot’s Patch 13.00 notes describe Retake as a fast 3-v-3 Spike mode and also cover map-pool changes, Competitive Rating adjustments, Agent balance changes and an initial in-client Inbox for notifications. Riot’s update stream lists Patch 13.02 as a July 28, 2026 release.
Maps, rotations, Agents, balance changes, limited-time modes and seasonal features can change by Act or patch. Treat the current snapshot as dated rather than a permanent feature list. Check Riot’s update page for the latest status.
Performance tips for a Windows PC
- Install current Windows updates and graphics-driver updates.
- Use VALORANT’s video settings to prioritize stable frame pacing over visual effects you do not need.
- Close resource-heavy background programs.
- Disable unnecessary overlays if troubleshooting crashes, stuttering or input problems.
- Use a wired network connection where practical for competitive play.
- Set the monitor refresh rate appropriately for the frame rate your PC can sustain.
Do not buy hardware simply because a specification table lists a higher tier. If your current supported PC already delivers a stable experience, downloading VALORANT costs nothing. Upgrade only when you have identified a real limitation such as inconsistent frame rate, insufficient storage or an unsuitable display.
VALORANT troubleshooting on PC
Vanguard or dependency errors
- Restart the PC.
- Install pending Windows updates and restart again.
- Check whether Riot Vanguard is installed and running as expected.
- If the problem remains, follow Riot’s current procedure to uninstall Vanguard and VALORANT.
- Restart Windows, then reinstall from the official Riot installer.
- Use Run as administrator for the installer only when Riot’s recovery procedure calls for it; do not treat it as a blanket requirement for the game executable.
- Contact Riot Support if the error continues.
Windows 11 security errors
Check TPM 2.0, UEFI Secure Boot, the Windows version, BIOS/UEFI configuration and whether Windows is running inside a virtual machine. Follow manufacturer-specific firmware instructions and avoid changing BIOS settings without understanding the consequences.
The game will not launch or crashes
- Restart Windows.
- Update the graphics driver and Windows.
- Temporarily remove or disable conflicting overlays and background utilities.
- Check firewall and antivirus rules for interference.
- Try a clean boot if another program appears to conflict.
- Clear local cache only when following Riot’s current support instructions.
- Reinstall VALORANT and Vanguard as a last resort.
- Submit logs or a support ticket if the problem persists.
Riot’s support hub should take priority over old forum fixes, especially for Vanguard errors and changing Windows security requirements.

Should you download VALORANT?
VALORANT is a strong fit if you enjoy competitive 5-v-5 matches, precise shooting, map learning, economy decisions and coordinated ability use. Its published hardware floor is modest for a supported x86-64 Windows PC, but the minimum tier is not the same as a consistently competitive setup.
It may be a poor fit if you need Linux, macOS, ARM Windows, cloud gaming or virtual-machine support; dislike one-life rounds and waiting after death; want a solo story campaign; or are uncomfortable with Vanguard. It also has a meaningful learning curve because players must understand weapons, economy, maps, abilities and team roles.

Optional hardware—not required to start
If your PC does not meet the requirements, consider a Windows gaming desktop or laptop with an x86-64 Intel or AMD processor, SSD storage, Windows 11-compatible TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot, and preferably 8 GB or more of RAM. Vendor starting points include Dell gaming PCs, Lenovo Legion, HP OMEN and ASUS ROG. Current prices are not included because they vary by configuration and promotion.
For a competitive setup, a 144-Hz monitor can make sense if your PC sustains frame rates above 60 FPS; see models from ASUS, Acer or BenQ ZOWIE. A comfortable, reliable mouse matters more than an expensive brand or a feature-heavy MMO design; options are available from Logitech G, Razer and SteelSeries. Clear audio and voice communication are useful, but premium RGB equipment will not fix networking, frame-rate or Vanguard problems.
