If VALORANT will not uninstall on Windows 11, restart the PC, close Riot Client, uninstall VALORANT from Settings > Apps > Installed apps, and then verify Riot Vanguard separately. If Settings fails, use Control Panel and Microsoft’s Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter before considering any manual file deletion or Windows reset.
If VALORANT will not uninstall from Windows 11, restart the PC first, close Riot Client and any visible Riot or Vanguard processes, then remove VALORANT from Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps. Afterward, check the installed-app list again for Riot Vanguard and, if desired, Riot Client. They are separate entries and may require separate removal.
If VALORANT will not uninstall, Outbyte PC Repair can scan Windows system elements, settings, and app-crash logs for related problems.

Do not begin by deleting the Riot Games folder, AppData folders, services, or registry entries: manual deletion can remove files while leaving Windows uninstall records, services, or permissions behind.
First, identify what “not uninstalling” means
There is no single cause behind every VALORANT uninstall problem. The correct next step depends on what appears on your screen:

- VALORANT is listed, but Uninstall does nothing: restart Windows, close Riot processes, and try again.
- VALORANT is missing from Settings: check Control Panel and then use Microsoft’s uninstall troubleshooter.
- Windows says the program cannot be found: the uninstall registration may be incomplete or corrupted.
- VALORANT disappears, but Riot Vanguard remains: Vanguard is a separate component and must be checked independently.
- Riot Client is still installed: the launcher is also separate and may remain after the game is removed.
- A process will not close: restart Windows before attempting the uninstall again rather than repeatedly killing system-related processes.
1. Restart Windows and close Riot software
A restart is the safest first step because it clears a game or launcher process that may still be using VALORANT’s files. Save your work, select Start > Power > Restart, and sign back into Windows.
Before uninstalling, close any visible Riot software:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Exit Riot Client from its notification-area icon if that option is available.
- Close VALORANT if it is open.
- Look at the taskbar’s hidden icons and exit any Riot Client or Vanguard interface that offers an exit option.
Do not treat every background service or driver as a process that should be forcibly terminated. If the program still will not uninstall after a restart, move to the supported Windows uninstall paths below.
2. Uninstall VALORANT from Windows 11 Settings
Microsoft’s primary Windows 11 route is:
- Open Start.
- Select Settings.
- Open Apps, then Installed apps.
- Search for VALORANT or scroll to it in the list.
- Select the three-dot More button beside the entry.
- Choose Uninstall and confirm the prompts.
Allow the uninstaller time to finish. A short delay is not necessarily a failure, particularly if Riot Client has only just closed. When Windows finishes, restart the PC and check Settings > Apps > Installed apps again.
If the Uninstall option is unavailable
Some desktop programs do not expose a working uninstall command through Settings. If the three-dot menu has no usable Uninstall option, or the command produces an error, use Control Panel rather than deleting the installation folder.
3. Try the Control Panel uninstall entry
Control Panel remains a supported fallback on Windows 11. Its list can differ from Settings because applications register their uninstall information in different ways.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Open Start and search for Control Panel.
- Open Control Panel and select Programs.
- Open Programs and Features.
- Find VALORANT in the list.
- Right-click it and choose Uninstall or Uninstall/Change.
- Follow the uninstall wizard, then restart Windows.
If VALORANT appears in Control Panel but not Settings, use the Control Panel entry. If it appears in neither location, or the uninstall command reports that the program cannot be found, continue with Microsoft’s troubleshooting tool.
4. Repair or reset the app when Windows offers those options
Depending on how Windows has registered the application, it may provide repair or reset controls. To check:

- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the relevant Riot or VALORANT entry.
- Select the three-dot menu and choose Advanced options, if it is available.
- Try Repair first.
- Retry the uninstall.
- Use Reset only if Repair does not help and Windows presents it as an available option.
Repair and Reset are not guaranteed to appear for VALORANT, and their labels or availability can vary by application registration. A reset can remove app data, so it should not be treated as a harmless substitute for uninstalling.
5. Use Microsoft’s Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter
Use Microsoft’s Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter when the VALORANT entry is missing, the Uninstall button does nothing, Windows says the program cannot be found, or an old uninstall record blocks removal.
Microsoft identifies this tool as a remedy for problems such as corrupted registry keys, incomplete uninstall data, corrupted installation or update information, and blocks affecting Add or Remove Programs. It is a better-supported escalation than manually editing the registry.
Download the troubleshooter from Microsoft Support, run it, choose the option for uninstalling a program, and select VALORANT if it appears in the detected list. Follow the tool’s prompts and restart Windows afterward. If VALORANT is not offered as a selectable program, follow the tool’s instructions for a missing or unknown entry rather than choosing an unrelated application.
Because Microsoft occasionally changes the download page and troubleshooting interface, use the current Microsoft Support version rather than an old third-party download or a repackaged executable.
6. Check Riot Vanguard separately
Riot Vanguard is not simply another name for VALORANT. It is Riot’s anti-cheat component, and Riot states that VALORANT will not run without it. Riot also documents Vanguard as a removable component.

After removing VALORANT, verify whether Vanguard remains:
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for Riot Vanguard.
- If it is present and you want to remove it, open its three-dot menu and select Uninstall.
- If Settings does not work, check Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features for the Riot Vanguard entry.
- Restart Windows after removal.
Removing Vanguard means VALORANT cannot run until Vanguard is installed again. If your goal is only to uninstall the game, you can leave Vanguard installed, but it is worth checking so you know exactly which Riot components remain.

Uninstalling Vanguard is not the same as disabling it
Riot’s newer Vanguard information describes an optional on-demand mode for suitably secured PCs. In that configuration, the Vanguard driver can start with a Riot game instead of starting at Windows boot, subject to Riot’s hardware and Windows security requirements.
On-demand mode changes when Vanguard runs; it does not remove VALORANT, uninstall Vanguard, or free the same space as removing the component. Use the normal uninstall workflow when your goal is to remove Riot software.
7. Check Riot Client separately
Riot Client is the launcher and should be verified independently. Removing VALORANT does not necessarily remove the launcher or every Riot-related component.
Search for Riot Client in both:
- Settings > Apps > Installed apps
- Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features
Uninstall it only if you no longer need it for another installed Riot game. If another Riot title uses the same launcher or Vanguard installation, removing shared components can affect that game.
Why deleting Riot folders is not the first fix
It can be tempting to delete C:Riot Games, folders under AppData, or Riot-related registry entries when Windows refuses to uninstall VALORANT. That approach is risky because the files are only part of the installation. Windows may still retain uninstall records, services, scheduled tasks, drivers, or permissions after the folders are gone.
Manual cleanup can also make Microsoft’s troubleshooter less able to identify the original installation. Do not delete registry keys or system files as a routine step, and do not remove a folder simply because it has “Riot” in its name. Use Settings, Control Panel, and Microsoft’s troubleshooter first.
If an exact manual cleanup instruction is ever required by current Riot or Microsoft support for a specific error, follow that official instruction precisely and create an appropriate backup or restore point first. A generic folder-deletion recipe is not a safe universal solution.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.8. Use Windows recovery only if Windows itself is damaged
System recovery is disproportionate for most VALORANT uninstall failures. Consider it only when the uninstall registration remains severely damaged after the supported uninstall paths and Microsoft’s troubleshooter, or when other Windows programs are also failing to install and uninstall.

Microsoft’s recovery options include System Restore, Reset this PC, Startup Repair, and reinstalling Windows with installation media. These options repair or reinstall Windows; they are not VALORANT-specific uninstall tools.
Understand Reset this PC before choosing it
Keep my files preserves personal files but removes apps and settings. Remove everything removes personal files, apps, and settings. Neither option should be started without preparation.
Before a reset or reinstall:
- Back up important documents, photos, game saves, browser data, and other files to an external drive or cloud storage.
- Confirm that you can sign back into important accounts.
- Make sure you have the BitLocker recovery key if device encryption is enabled.
- Keep the PC connected to reliable power during the recovery process.
- Contact Microsoft or Riot Support first if you are unsure whether the problem is Windows-wide or limited to Riot software.
If you reach the recovery or reinstall stage, Microsoft documents creating recovery media with a USB drive that has at least 8GB of free space. A USB flash drive for Windows recovery can be useful for that specific backup or recovery task, but it will not fix an ordinary VALORANT uninstall error by itself.
Recommended order of operations
- Restart Windows.
- Exit VALORANT and Riot Client.
- Uninstall VALORANT from Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- If Settings fails, use Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
- Check and remove Riot Vanguard separately if you no longer need it.
- Check Riot Client separately.
- Run Microsoft’s Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter for a missing or corrupted entry.
- Use Windows recovery only after backing up files and securing the BitLocker recovery key.
Most cases end at the Settings or Control Panel stage. A stuck uninstall entry usually calls for Microsoft’s uninstall troubleshooter—not registry cleaning, indiscriminate folder deletion, or a full Windows reset.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does uninstalling VALORANT also uninstall Riot Vanguard?
No. VALORANT and Riot Vanguard are separate components, so Vanguard may remain listed after the game is removed. Check both Settings’ Installed apps list and Control Panel’s Programs and Features list.
What should I do if VALORANT is not listed in Windows 11 Settings?
Use Control Panel first, then Microsoft’s Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter. The troubleshooter is designed for missing entries, corrupted uninstall data, registry problems, and programs that Windows cannot find.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Is disabling Vanguard the same as uninstalling it?
No. Vanguard on-demand mode changes when the driver starts; it does not uninstall Vanguard or VALORANT. Use the normal Windows uninstall path if you want to remove the software.
Should I reset Windows 11 to remove VALORANT?
Usually not. Reset this PC removes apps and settings, and the Remove everything option also removes personal files. It should be a last resort after supported uninstall troubleshooting, with backups and the BitLocker recovery key prepared.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: restart Windows, close Riot software, and uninstall VALORANT through Settings. If that fails, try Control Panel and Microsoft’s Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter. Verify Riot Vanguard and Riot Client separately, and reserve Windows recovery or Reset this PC for a genuinely damaged Windows installation after making a complete backup.
