A Valorant player says a secondhand Ryzen 7 5800X3D was associated with a hardware restriction after installation, but the player’s account and the reported explanation from Riot are not independently verified. TechSpot reports that Riot anti-cheat specialist Phillip Koskinas disputed the claim that Vanguard automatically blacklists an entire PC because it detects one banned component.
What the player says happened
A Reddit user posting in r/PCBaumeister says they bought a used AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D through Kleinanzeigen and were ejected from Valorant after installing it. The poster says Riot support told them the CPU’s ID or serial number had been hardware-banned on August 12 because its previous owner allegedly cheated. They say they bought the processor on September 21, roughly six weeks later.
Those dates and the reported support explanation come from the player’s account. The support exchange and Riot’s enforcement records are not publicly available in the reporting reviewed here, so the account does not establish that the CPU was banned or why the player was ejected.
What Riot reportedly disputed
In its October 3, 2026 report, TechSpot says Koskinas disputed the player’s expanded claim that other system components, including the motherboard and storage, had also been blacklisted. According to TechSpot, he said Vanguard does not add an entire computer to its denylist simply because it detects one banned component.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The report also attributes two further points to Koskinas: hardware bans are specific to individual games, and Valorant hardware bans last no more than four months. If the player’s claimed August 12 start date and that maximum duration both apply, the restriction would reach its maximum around December. That calculation does not confirm this player’s ban, its start date, or an actual expiry.
TechSpot also reports that Koskinas could not locate the support ticket connected to the story. That does not settle what happened; it means the public accounts do not provide a verified ticket or enforcement record that resolves the dispute.

How the competing accounts differ
| Question | Player’s account | Riot statement as reported by TechSpot |
|---|---|---|
| Which parts were restricted? | The player says support identified the CPU, then says they understood other parts of the PC were blacklisted. This is the player’s account of the exchange. | Koskinas reportedly disputed automatic whole-system deniallisting triggered by one banned component. |
| Which games are affected? | The reported ejection was from Valorant; the post’s broader account raised concern about other Riot games. | Koskinas reportedly said hardware bans are game-specific. |
| How long can a Valorant hardware ban last? | The player says the alleged restriction began August 12; the actual duration is unconfirmed. | Koskinas reportedly said Valorant hardware bans last no more than four months. |
Does this mean used CPUs commonly carry Valorant bans?
No. TechSpot attributes to Koskinas a count of fewer than a dozen cases in which banned components reached secondhand buyers. That is a reported count, not a rate: there is no denominator showing how many used components were sold or checked. PCWorld’s October 2, 2026 coverage likewise said it found few documented cases and could not quantify a buyer’s risk.
PCWorld notes that hardware identifiers can be used in anti-cheat enforcement, but that general point does not prove the specific CPU in this account was flagged. As PCWorld put it: “There’s no real way to know if a part has been flagged before you buy it if the seller doesn’t choose to share that information.”

Can the player legitimately get the restriction removed?
The available reporting does not establish a confirmed remedy or show that buying a replacement processor resolves this case. A buyer or player should use Riot’s official support process to ask about the restriction and provide the purchase details; do not treat forum speculation about bypasses as authoritative guidance. The public account does not include a verified response that would show whether an appeal was filed or accepted.

What this case establishes—and what it does not
- The product at the center of the account is an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D bought secondhand, according to the Reddit poster.
- The claimed CPU ban, the alleged prior-owner cheating, and the reported support explanation have not been independently authenticated in the coverage cited here.
- TechSpot reports that Riot’s anti-cheat specialist disputed the suggestion that Vanguard automatically deny-lists a whole PC after detecting one banned part, and said hardware bans are game-specific with a four-month maximum for Valorant.
- The reported fewer-than-a-dozen secondhand cases lack a denominator and cannot be used to calculate the chance that any used component is restricted.
