Diamond → Ascendant → Immortal → Radiant. Ascendant sits between Diamond and Immortal; Radiant is the top competitive rank and is linked to regional leaderboard standing. Reaching these upper ranks is not just a matter of collecting a fixed number of wins: match results drive most RR movement, while MMR and your displayed rank also shape progression.
Where Ascendant, Immortal, and Radiant fit
VALORANT’s competitive ladder runs from Iron through Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Ascendant, Immortal, and Radiant. Each rank below Radiant has three numbered tiers; Immortal also has numbered tiers, while Radiant is the ladder’s highest rank.
Riot added Ascendant in Patch 5.0 in 2022, placing it above Diamond and below Immortal. The stated goal was to redistribute players across the ladder without overloading Platinum and Diamond. The patch also adjusted MMR targets, including higher targets for Immortal and Radiant. Riot’s Patch 5.0 notes explain the change.

How RR and MMR affect rank progression
RR is the visible rating that moves you through rank tiers. Riot’s explanation says most RR movement comes from the match result. MMR—the matchmaking rating used to assess skill—also matters: the relationship between your MMR and displayed rank affects how RR progression pushes your rank toward its MMR target. Riot does not publish a permanent formula that lets players calculate a guaranteed RR gain from a particular scoreline.

That means a win is important, but a fixed number of wins, a particular K/D, or a specific match score does not guarantee promotion. Riot’s Episode 2 Act I Competitive Changes describes match outcome as the main influence on RR, and Competitive Changes 2.02 discusses the broader progression system.
Why Radiant is different from Immortal
Immortal is a rank tier; Radiant is the top rank tied to leaderboard standing in a region. Riot’s 2021 competitive overview described Radiant as the top 500 players in each region and placed Immortal and Radiant on the leaderboard. That is a dated description, not a guarantee that every present-day eligibility detail is unchanged. The practical distinction is that earning a high RR total alone does not establish one universal Radiant threshold for every region and patch.

Riot’s Patch 12.05 notes say it adjusted Immortal 2, Immortal 3, and Radiant RR thresholds to bring leaderboard requirements into parity across regions, without changing the underlying MMR systems. The note does not publish the numeric cutoffs. Check the live in-client competitive and leaderboard information for the region you play rather than relying on an old RR target. Riot’s 2021 description listed 50 ranked account games to appear on the leaderboard and at least one Competitive game per week to remain listed. Those are historical requirements from that article; current validity is not established by the later patch notes cited here. Treat them as context, not as a current checklist.

Some rules are explicitly regional. Riot’s January 2026 Patch 12.01 notes require players in the EU at Ascendant or higher to enable Riot Mobile multi-factor authentication (MFA) to access Competitive.
