The games share a world and a snowballing power curve, but they create that payoff in very different ways.
How gameplay differs
Vampire Survivors: movement and automatic attacks
Vampire Survivors is a top-down time-survival game with roguelite progression. You steer a character around an arena while attacks fire automatically. Defeated enemies drop experience; level-ups let you add or strengthen weapons and items. The moment-to-moment challenge is staying alive as enemy waves grow more dangerous while assembling a build that can clear them. The official Steam listing describes the game and its core loop.

Vampire Crawlers: turn-based cards and dungeon exploration
Vampire Crawlers shifts to first-person dungeon crawling with turn-based, card-driven combat. You explore floors and points of interest, then choose cards to play. Cards are arranged by ascending mana cost, so each play can strengthen the next; Wild cards can extend the sequence. Experience adds cards as a run develops, while chests offer power-ups and gems that customize cards. Its official Steam listing outlines these mechanics.
As poncle founder and CEO Luca Galante put it in an Xbox Wire interview, “This is just a dungeon crawler you play with cards!” That description captures the format change: Crawlers is a spin-off, not simply another real-time Vampire Survivors run or a direct sequel.

Progression: what you build and when
| Progression layer | Vampire Survivors | Vampire Crawlers |
|---|---|---|
| During a run | Level-ups offer weapons and passive items to add or improve; positioning helps you survive while the build develops. | Experience adds cards; card order, mana costs, and Wilds shape each combat sequence. |
| Customization | Combine weapons and items into a build designed to handle escalating waves. | Use chest rewards, power-ups, and gems to customize cards. |
| Between runs | Gold can fund upgrades that help future runs. | Unlocks and permanent stat upgrades provide longer-term progression. |
The shared appeal is a build that grows into a powerful combination. In Vampire Survivors, that growth is driven by weapon and item choices while you move through danger. In Vampire Crawlers, it comes from sequencing cards and choosing where to explore for encounters and treasures. The games share characters, weapons, enemies, zones, items, visual motifs, and a feeling of escalating combos; they do not share the same decision rhythm.
Which game should you play?
- Choose Vampire Survivors for continuous movement, automatic attacks, arcade immediacy, and the sensory chaos of enemy waves. Its key decisions are positioning and which weapons or passive items to add or improve.
- Choose Vampire Crawlers for deliberate, turn-based choices, card-combo sequencing, and dungeon exploration. Its central decisions are card order, mana costs, extending a combo, and which encounters or treasures to pursue.
- Either may suit you if what you want is the rising-power payoff of a run. The deciding question is whether you would rather create it through movement and upgrades or through tactical card plays and dungeon routing.
This is a mechanics-based recommendation, not a claim that one game is universally better. Poncle describes Crawlers as a spin-off, and its familiar content is best understood as shared DNA rather than evidence that it plays like Survivors.

Release, platforms, and practical details
Vampire Crawlers launched on April 21, 2026, according to poncle’s FAQ and publisher announcements. The publisher names Steam, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PlayStation for launch. Its FAQ lists launch prices of £8.99, $9.99, €9.99, and ¥1200, and notes that console prices may vary; check your regional store for current availability and price.
Poncle’s FAQ describes mobile versions as planned for later in 2026. The official materials cited here do not confirm whether they had launched by October 7, 2026, so mobile availability remains unconfirmed. The same FAQ says cross-save was unavailable at launch and that poncle was investigating it for the mobile ports; it does not establish the current cross-save status. Both games support controllers according to their official listings or FAQ.
