Vanquishing the Vexing Vapors is a Paradise Island side quest in The Outer Worlds 2. To complete it, use the Gas-Energy Deflection Apparatus to reach the Euphoria Coast Automech Repair Center’s control room, seal two intake conduits, shut down the Zyranium flow, then report back to Marshal Lucas Donelson. The quest follows An Aegis Against the Miasma, which provides the apparatus you need.

How to start the quest

Complete An Aegis Against the Miasma, then speak with Marshal Lucas Donelson at the Euphoria Coast Automech Repair Center on Paradise Island. The earlier quest provides the Gas-Energy Deflection Apparatus, which protects you while crossing Zyranium hazards.

The objectives are to reach the Primary Repair Hangar, locate the Zyranium Flow Control System, fix two leaks, stop the flow, and report back to Donelson.

How to reach the Zyranium Flow Control System

Before crossing into the Zyranium-affected Primary Repair Hangar, equip or activate the Gas-Energy Deflection Apparatus. It deactivates after a few seconds or when damage exceeds its capacity, so move through hazardous areas promptly and watch its status.

The Quest Kids Board Game - Cooperative Fantasy Dungeon Crawler for Kids Ages 5+, First RPG Adventure Game for Families, 2-4 Players, No Reading Required
  • A FIRST DUNGEON CRAWLER FOR AGES 5 AND UP: The Quest Kids brings the fantasy adventure of tabletop RPG games to young players. Pick a hero, explore Tolk's Cave, collect treasure, scare off silly monsters and finish quests to earn stars.
  • NO READING REQUIRED, RULES IN 5 MINUTES: Symbols and pictures replace text, so kids as young as five play on their own. Parents who love board games get a real game too, not a toy that only children enjoy.
  • COOPERATIVE OR COMPETITIVE: Play together and help each other through the cave, or race for the most stars. Either way a game runs 20-30 minutes, so it fits a school night and finishes before anyone loses interest.
  • EVERYTHING IN THE BOX: Game board, 4 large hero figures, 4 player boards, 42 dungeon cards, 122 additional cards, 6 gems, treasure tokens and scoring sheets. 2 to 4 players, ages 5+, no batteries and no app needed.
  • GROWS WITH YOUR CHILD: Three expansions add a dragon hero, boss fights, a story campaign and new realms, so the game your 5 year old learns is still the game your 8 year old asks for. Makes a birthday or Christmas gift that gets replayed.

You can enter the initial area through a door with a Hack 2 skill check or take the nearby vent instead. Both routes lead toward the flow-control system; the vent is the alternative if you do not meet the hacking requirement. Expect malfunctioning drones and limit the time you spend in the gas.

Seal both intake conduits

In the gas-filled control room, interact with the terminal. Use its options to check the system and learn where the conduits are. The walkthrough lists these menu selections:

Repair the facility or sabotage it?

This quest is the repair-center outcome of a broader facility decision. Fixing the leak saves the Automech Repair Center and lets you collect the rewards for Vanquishing the Vexing Vapors. Sabotaging the facility leads to a different faction-quest outcome and locks you out of this quest’s rewards. If you want the repair-center rewards, choose the repair route.

Quest rewards

The walkthrough lists the The Dose helmet, a Repeating Rifle Explosive Rounds recipe/add-on, experience, and bits. Passing an Engineering 3 speech check when reporting back awards an additional 350 bits. The guide’s reward summary and conditional-reward section do not give a consistent overall bit total, so the exact guaranteed total is not established here.
