Verdansk came back to Warzone on April 3, 2025, and Activision described it as rebuilt from the ground up with light adjustments, not as a copy of the March 2020 map. The “pretty much the OG March 2020 version” line originated with a February 2025 leak. It was a claim about what the return would look like, and it was never Activision’s wording. The short answer is that the return was meant to recreate the original experience, but it was not a bit-for-bit restoration.
Where the “OG” claim came from
On February 23 and 24, 2025, a leaker posting as TheGhostofHope claimed that Verdansk would return to Warzone with Black Ops 6 Season 03 and would be “pretty much the OG March 2020 version.” Insider Gaming reported the claims on February 24, 2025. The article attributed them to the leaker and did not present them as confirmed by Activision.
The leak listed several specific map details:
- The Train Station interior would be closed.
- The Stadium interior would be accessible, but its roof would be closed.
- A train would return to the map.
- The subway system would not offer fast travel.
Each of these was a claim at the time of reporting. Treat them as the leaker’s predictions, not as features Activision had listed.
What Activision confirmed
Activision published its official Verdansk preview on March 26, 2025. It said the map had been rebuilt from the ground up, with light adjustments and quality-of-life improvements, and it told players they should recognize the original Big Map experience. The announcement also gave the date: Warzone’s Verdansk launch was set for 9 a.m. PT on April 3, 2025.

The Warzone release was separate from the Black Ops 6 content rollout. Black Ops 6 Season 03 content began on April 2, and Warzone’s Verdansk followed a day later. Players who wanted the map did not need to be on a particular Black Ops 6 release schedule to access it on the Warzone side.
The official wording for the map’s identity is worth quoting directly. The March 26 announcement stated: “The Battle Royale Map that started it all is back!” That line describes the return as a revival of the original map. It does not say the map was unchanged.

Leak claims compared with the official description
The gap between the leak and Activision’s account is easiest to see side by side. The table below uses only what the sources cited here establish. Where an official source does not address a detail, the table says so.

The train is the one detail where the official description and the leak overlap in a meaningful way. Activision’s April 29, 2025 Season 03 Reloaded announcement presented the moving train as part of the map’s evolving state, alongside High Value Loot Zones. That makes the train a mid-season addition in Activision’s framing, not a launch-day feature in the sense the leak implied. The sources cited here do not confirm the Train Station, Stadium, or subway details, so those stay attributed to the leaker.

How to read “OG” without overstating it
There are two different claims that readers often blur together:
- Faithful rebuilt return: the map was reconstructed to recreate the feel and layout players remember from March 2020, with some adjustments. This is what Activision’s wording supports.
- Bit-for-bit original: the map was restored exactly as it existed in March 2020. Activision’s own description rules this out, because it explicitly mentions adjustments and a rebuild.
The headline’s “pretty much” is a fair hedge. It is closer to the official description than the phrase “exact copy” would be, but it still makes a broader claim than the official sources justify on their own. Activision’s account is the stronger evidence for what players found at launch. The leak is the source of the original “OG” framing, and it was made before the official details existed.

The launch figures
Activision’s 2025 announcements included two numbers tied to the return. The “Return to Verdansk” launch event offered 20 free rewards, and the announced Verdansk Battle Royale mode had a capacity of 150 players. These are game-content figures from Activision’s own announcements, not independent measurements of how many people played or how popular the map was.
What these sources do not establish
The sources behind this article cover the February 2025 leak, the March and April 2025 official announcements, and the April 29, 2025 Season 03 Reloaded update. They do not establish Verdansk’s rotation status in Warzone as of today, October 2026. If you are looking for whether the map is currently playable, check the Warzone playlist and Activision’s current season notes, since those change over time.

Two details also remain unconfirmed by official sources cited here: the closed Train Station, and the open Stadium with a closed roof. Anyone reporting those features as settled should point to an Activision source that names them directly.
