The announcement says the map was rebuilt, but it does not explain what the “all-new technology” in the headline refers to, so this article limits itself to the changes Call of Duty actually described.
What “rebuilt from the ground up” means in the announcement
The phrase comes from the official announcement, which was bylined “Call of Duty Staff” rather than a named developer. The company’s own wording is that “This version of Verdansk has been painstakingly rebuilt from the ground up to give you the very best battle royale experience possible.” That is promotional language. It tells you the intent of the rebuild, not an independently measured quality result.

The practical meaning is narrower than the headline suggests. Call of Duty framed the work as a faithful return to the original map: the same layout and recognizable points of interest, with targeted updates. Returning players were told they should recognize the original experience.
How close the 2025 Verdansk is to 2020
The 95% figure is the publisher’s own estimate, stated in the March 26, 2025 announcement. It is not the result of a third-party audit or a side-by-side measurement, and Call of Duty did not publish a method for arriving at it. Read it as “most of the map is the 2020 layout, with a small share of the landscape altered,” not as a precise percentage of geometry or texture data.

The approximately five percent that changed is described as light adjustments and quality-of-life improvements. The specific changes Call of Duty listed are below.

- Structures and draw distances: more detailed buildings and improved draw distances.
- Cosmetic detail: additional visual detail across the map.
- Access on steep slopes and across buildings: improved traversal, so players can move through these areas more easily.
- Southern coast: a newly accessible southern coast and shoreline trenches, which the official preview said opened combat along the shoreline.
These were described in the preview. The announcement does not provide before-and-after performance figures, frame-rate measurements, or player testing for any of them.

Gameplay that returned, and what stayed current
The return was also framed as a restoration of early Warzone gameplay. Call of Duty’s feature list paired returning mechanics with a few systems from the current game. The table below separates the two, based on the announcement.

Who worked on the rebuild
Beenox published a developer page dated July 30, 2025, stating that Beenox rebuilt Verdansk. That page credits Beenox, Raven Software, and High Moon Studios. The sources reviewed do not assign specific map tasks to each studio, so the accurate credit is studio-level: Beenox says it rebuilt the map, and all three studios are credited on the project.
Dates and current availability
The announced return date was April 3, 2025, and Black Ops 6 Season 03 was set to launch April 2, 2025. Those are historical dates. This article does not establish whether Verdansk is in the current Warzone map rotation, which playlists include it, or whether its service status has changed since then, so check the in-game playlist list or Call of Duty’s current update notes for the present state.
