Destructoid’s chronological guide identifies 29 video game references in Spooky Month: The Wacky Wicked Woods, from Nintendo hardware and Pokémon to Doom and Undertale/Deltarune. It is an editorial list, not a creator-verified checklist, and its author notes that some references may have been missed.
What the episode is about
Spooky Month: The Wacky Wicked Woods follows a group of children trapped in a strange world with a witch, where they must find out whether they can get home. The official Newgrounds episode page credits David Axel Casanova, known as SrPelo, as creator and lists the production contributors. It gives the upload date as October 2, 2026.
The guide’s video game reference list, in order
Drew Kopp’s Destructoid guide, published October 5, 2026, presents these identifications in chronological order, so the list can be followed during a rewatch. The spellings below preserve the guide’s wording, including two apparent title spellings that have not been independently checked against the episode.
- Nintendo Wii
- Pokémon: Sword and Shield
- Balatro
- Punch-Out!!
- Crash Bandicoot: Warped
- The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask
- Nintendo Switch
- Mario Kart
- Street Fighter II
- Warhammer 40,000
- Minecraft
- Link: The Faces of Evil
- Five Nights at Freddy’s
- Team Fortress 2
- Paper Mario
- Banjo-Kazooie — an interpretive allusion, rather than a direct reference, according to the guide: it reads Aspen Moore’s game show as a nod to Gruntilda’s quiz shows.
- Darkest Dungeons (as printed in the guide)
- Dungeons & Dragons
- Doom
- Mario Party
- Don’t Starve
- The Binding of Isaac
- Castlevania
- Undertale/Deltarune
- Super Mario 64
- The Great Ace Attorney
- Pico’s School
- The PlayStation
- “Tohou” (as printed in the guide)
How to read the list
Kopp describes the episode as a horror-comedy animation with references that may go by quickly on a first watch. The guide focuses on video games and excludes nods to film, television, anime, stage productions, and celebrities. It also cautions that the list may not catch everything.

The entries range from consoles and broad series names to specific games. The Banjo-Kazooie entry is expressly an interpretation of a quiz-show resemblance, not a claim that the episode directly names the game. Neither the Destructoid guide nor the official Newgrounds page supplies a creator-verified checklist or a creator explanation of the allusions. For that reason, this inventory is best treated as the references identified by the guide, not a definitive canon.
