This retrospective covers notable games released during the year that substantially revisited an earlier game, including collections and enhanced editions, while excluding older remakes or remasters that merely arrived on another platform. Publishers do not use these labels consistently, so the classification below follows their terminology where available. Kotaku estimated that nearly 30 remakes or remasters were released or planned for 2024 under its own scope; that is an estimate, not a verified industry-wide total.
Confirmed 2024 releases
The dates below are confirmed release dates, not announcement windows. The list is a useful calendar of notable releases rather than a definitive count of every qualifying game.

What the labels mean in this calendar
“Remake,” “remaster,” “reimagining” and “collection” are not a single technical standard. The table preserves publisher language where the cited announcements establish it, rather than assuming every relaunch rebuilt its game in the same way.
Reimagining: Contra: Operation Galuga
Konami called the game “a from-the-ground-up reimagining” of the 1980s Contra NES and arcade game. That is the publisher’s description, not a claim that it is a scene-for-scene remake. Its March 12 release was announced for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox and PC.

Remake: Paper Mario and Dragon Quest III
Nintendo presented Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door as the return of the GameCube RPG in enhanced form. The Nintendo Switch release date was May 23. Nintendo had already included it among planned 2024 releases in its November 2023 schedule.
Square Enix described Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake as “Rebuilt for modern audiences” in its June 18, 2024 announcement. The game arrived November 14. The announcement cited here establishes the date and remake label, but not its platforms.

- STAR WARS Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast (1.1 GB)
- STAR WARS Episode I Racer (254 MB)
- STAR WARS Republic Commando (2.5 GB)
- STAR WARS: The Force Unleashed (3.4 GB)
Remaster: Dead Rising and Horizon Zero Dawn
Capcom used the specific label “Deluxe Remaster” for Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, whose digital release was September 19. The label should not be silently converted to “remake” simply because it is a new edition.
Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered launched October 31 on PS5 and PC. At announcement, PlayStation said existing owners could upgrade digitally for $9.99 in the United States. That was the announced US upgrade price in 2024, not a statement of current price or availability.

Remake: Silent Hill 2
Konami’s October 8 release of Silent Hill 2 was for PS5 and PC via Steam. The publisher announced expanded areas, an over-the-shoulder view, an overhauled combat system and added cut-scenes—specific changes that provide more context than the remake label alone.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why “every” depends on the scope
Lists of 2024 relaunches differ because they draw the boundary differently. Some include collections, enhanced editions and reimaginings; others leave out a game that had already launched if its 2024 release was only a port to another platform. Kotaku’s contemporaneous roundup estimated nearly 30 games released or planned for that year while explicitly excluding those port-only cases. A separate contemporary compilation included a broader mix of candidates, but combined confirmed dates with year-only windows and was not an official release ledger.

- The Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection includes Mega Man Star Force Pegasus, Mega Man Star Force Leo, Mega Man Star Force Dragon, Mega Man Star Force 2 Zerker x Ninja, Mega Man Star Force 2 Zerker x Saurian, Mega Man Star Force 3 Black Ace & Mega Man Star Force 3 Red Joker.
- Browse over 1,000 pieces of official artwork, including rare concept illustrations. You can also rock out to music from all three Mega Man Star Force titles plus newly arranged tracks, with select tracks that can be set as in-game background music.
- Customize gameplay by increasing your Mega Buster power, adjusting encounter rates, and playing through Casual for easy play or Ranked Matches for global competition.
- Optional high-resolution filters allow you to enjoy smoother visuals or toggle them off at any time to experience the classic look.
- Rare bonus cards previously obtainable only through events or merchandise are included. You can also combine them with cards earned during gameplay to build even more powerful decks (some bonus cards are not included).
For that reason, the confirmed-date table above is deliberately narrower than an all-candidate list. It should not be read as a verified total for the industry, and announced windows should not be mistaken for proof that a game shipped on a particular date.
