Arsenal forward Viktor Gyökeres scored for Sweden in a 1–1 draw away to Bosnia and Herzegovina on 2 October 2026. A Metro report says the goal made him the first player to score in six consecutive UEFA Nations League matches—but his reaction was shaped by Sweden’s failure to win and another goal being ruled out.
What record did Gyökeres break?
The Metro report, syndicated by Football-Addict, says Gyökeres extended his Nations League scoring run to six consecutive matches, setting a new record. The article says he had matched the previous five-match mark associated with Benjamin Šeško, who plays for Manchester United, and Aleksandar Mitrović. These streak details and comparisons are reported by Metro; UEFA’s results listing confirms the Bosnia and Herzegovina–Sweden match result, but does not independently verify the historical record.
The report also describes Gyökeres as having 24 goals in 40 international caps at the time of publication. That is a dated figure from the article, rather than a number confirmed by UEFA’s match listing. Read the syndicated Metro report.
Why did he say he was “sour”?
Gyökeres opened the scoring, but Sweden drew 1–1. The Metro report says another goal by the forward was disallowed after a VAR handball decision. It attributes his disappointment to the dropped points and the disallowed goal—not to setting the record.
