For streaming a Zoom meeting or webinar directly to YouTube, Zoom is usually the simpler fit—if the host’s account has livestreaming enabled. Choose Vimeo when you also need Vimeo’s event page, event controls, or simulcasting to multiple destinations. They can also work together: Zoom can feed a Vimeo event over RTMP, or through a more involved Livestream Studio setup.
Choose by the job you need to do
| Need | Better starting point | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Put a Zoom meeting or webinar on YouTube | Zoom | Eligible hosts can start a YouTube or custom-platform stream from Zoom after the required account settings are enabled. Zoom livestreaming requirements and setup. |
| Host an event on Vimeo and send it to YouTube or other destinations | Vimeo | Vimeo events offer destination management and event hosting. YouTube simulcasting requires Advanced or Premium, or Enterprise with the Events feature. Confirm current plan eligibility and availability before signing up. Vimeo’s YouTube simulcast instructions. |
| Use Zoom for the meeting but Vimeo for event hosting or production | Zoom and Vimeo together | Send Zoom to Vimeo by RTMP, or use a separate computer with Livestream Studio and an HDMI capture device for a more involved production workflow. Vimeo’s Zoom-to-Vimeo workflows. |
Neither service is a universal winner on stream quality or reliability. The practical choice depends on account eligibility, where viewers should watch, the event controls you need, production complexity, and the current cost of the required plans. The capabilities and limits below are from vendor documentation, not comparative performance tests.
Stream a Zoom meeting or webinar directly to YouTube
Check account and admin eligibility first
Zoom’s documentation lists Pro, Business, Education, or Enterprise accounts for meetings, with a Zoom Workplace Meetings license assigned to the host and Custom Live Streaming Service enabled. Webinar hosts need a Zoom Webinars license, and webinar livestreaming must be enabled. Account licensing and administrator settings can vary, so verify them in your Zoom portal before scheduling the event. See Zoom’s current setup requirements.
Configure and start the stream
- In Zoom’s web portal, enable the applicable livestreaming setting for the meeting or webinar. For a custom destination, configure the livestream fields for the event.
- For a custom YouTube destination, enter the stream URL, stream key, and audience-facing page URL requested in Zoom’s configuration. Treat the key like a password; do not share or publish it.
- Start the scheduled meeting or webinar. From the host controls, choose the livestream option, then select Live on Custom Live Streaming Service when using the custom configuration.
- If you need higher video quality, Zoom says HD Video must be enabled for the relevant meeting or webinar. Confirm the setting before the event rather than assuming it is on.
YouTube’s encoder guidance explains that an encoder converts video into a digital format for streaming. Its YouTube Live Control Room provides the server URL and stream key for encoder workflows. First-time livestream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well ahead of an event. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.

Send a Vimeo event to YouTube
Use the direct YouTube integration
- Open the Vimeo event’s Settings > Destinations area and connect the YouTube account.
- Choose the YouTube channel, set the YouTube privacy option, and enable the destination.
- Start the Vimeo event to start its simulcast. Afterward, manage the YouTube title, description, and privacy in YouTube Studio.
YouTube livestreaming must already be enabled on the account, and YouTube requires the account to be verified for Vimeo simulcasting. Vimeo lists Advanced or Premium, or Enterprise with the Events feature, as eligible; its Premium plan page says Premium is no longer offered to new customers. Check Vimeo’s current plan page and availability rather than assuming Premium can be newly purchased. Vimeo destination instructions.
Use a custom RTMP destination
- In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or select the stream and copy its server URL and stream key.
- Add a custom RTMP destination in Vimeo and enter the YouTube URL and key.
- Start the Vimeo event and check that the feed reaches YouTube. If you are sending to a scheduled YouTube stream, Vimeo’s instructions say to manually select Go live in YouTube Live Control Room once the encoder feed is present.
Vimeo documents up to 10 integrated destinations and up to 20 custom RTMP destinations. These are separate destination types, and the limits are vendor-published figures, not a guarantee of performance. With browser production, Vimeo says simulcast settings cannot be reconfigured once the event is live, so check destinations before starting. Vimeo’s simulcasting documentation.

Use Zoom and Vimeo together when each has a distinct role
Direct Zoom-to-Vimeo RTMP
For a simpler combined workflow, enter Vimeo’s RTMPS URL, stream key, and event page URL in Zoom’s custom livestreaming fields. Zoom sends the meeting to the Vimeo event. Vimeo says Zoom selects stream quality based on the meeting host’s upload speed; this direct route does not include Livestream Studio’s production features. Vimeo’s Zoom workflow instructions.
Zoom through Livestream Studio
For more production control, connect the Zoom laptop over HDMI to a capture device attached to a second computer running Livestream Studio. Vimeo describes Studio features including multi-camera production controls, stream-health monitoring, graphics overlays, and Vimeo event tools. It gives Blackmagic Design and Magewell as examples of capture-device makers. This is a specialist setup: the capture device is not required for ordinary Zoom-to-YouTube streaming or the direct RTMP route.

Vimeo event limits to check before committing
Vimeo’s live-event FAQ lists plan limits that can shape an event. These are Vimeo-published terms, not independent measures of the quality viewers will receive; check the current plan and technical specifications before relying on them. Vimeo also notes that source and viewer network conditions affect delivered quality. Vimeo’s live-event FAQ.

- Zoom has no livestream option: Confirm the host has the required meeting or webinar license and that an administrator enabled livestreaming for that event type. Verify the account configuration in Zoom’s portal.
- YouTube will not let the account go live: Enable livestreaming and verify the YouTube account. If this is the first activation, allow up to 24 hours before the planned broadcast.
- The Vimeo event is visible but YouTube is not live: For a scheduled YouTube stream sent over RTMP, check the Live Control Room and select Go live after the incoming feed appears.
- The Zoom-to-Vimeo stream looks inconsistent: Vimeo says Zoom chooses quality based on the meeting host’s upload speed. Check that connection and rehearse; do not assume the direct RTMP workflow provides Livestream Studio controls.
- You need to change destinations after starting browser production: Vimeo says simulcast settings cannot be reconfigured once the event is live. Stop and correct the setup as appropriate, or plan the destinations before going live.
- The stream key may have been exposed: Keep stream keys private and follow YouTube Live Control Room’s current instructions. If a key was shared publicly, replace or reset it in the relevant service before the next broadcast.
For continuous prerecorded video, use a different workflow
Zoom meetings and Vimeo events address live event workflows; they are not the same as keeping uploaded prerecorded videos looping on a YouTube channel around the clock. If that is your goal, StreamNeo is #1 to try first: it runs continuously from the cloud, streams uploaded video at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day. It does not stream from a camera.
