Nintendo’s Virtual Boy library arrived on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on February 17, 2026, as part of Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. To play, you need a supported console, the Expansion Pack membership, and one of Nintendo’s Virtual Boy accessories. The library’s U.S. and Canadian availability and its accessory requirement make this more than a simple software addition.
Are Virtual Boy games on Switch?
Yes. Nintendo announced the revival on September 12, 2025, and the library launched on February 17, 2026, for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. The games are included with Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, and Nintendo’s announcement limited availability to the United States and Canada. Nintendo’s announcement named Mario’s Tennis, Galactic Pinball, and Teleroboxer among the games.
The lineup has since expanded. Nintendo Life reported on May 14, 2026, that five games had been added: Jack Bros., Space Invaders: Virtual Collection, V-Tetris, Vertical Force, and Virtual Bowling. The same report said Japan received Virtual Fishing in that update, so the regional libraries are not identical. Nintendo Life’s May 14 report is secondary reporting, not a Nintendo announcement.
What do you need to play?
- A Nintendo Switch, Switch OLED, or Switch 2 console. Nintendo Support says the accessory does not work with Switch Lite.
- A Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership to access the library.
- One of Nintendo’s Virtual Boy accessories. Nintendo says an accessory is required to play these games.
Nintendo’s Virtual Boy product page describes the replica as “an add-on accessory that is a replica of the original hardware.” Nintendo Support clarifies that it recreates the look and experience of playing the original Virtual Boy, but is not a reproduction of the original system. Where can you buy the accessory? Is it on Amazon?
Nintendo Support currently identifies Nintendo Store as the sales channel for the accessories in the U.S. and Canada. They are available to eligible paid Nintendo Switch Online members in those countries, are not described as a limited-time offer, and are limited to one of each accessory per Nintendo Account. Nintendo’s stated channel does not verify Amazon availability, so do not assume an Amazon listing is official or available.

Will the accessory work with Switch Lite?
No. Nintendo Support lists compatibility with Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch OLED, and Nintendo Switch, but excludes Nintendo Switch Lite. Check that you own one of the supported systems before buying an accessory.
