Studio Sasanqua, the Japanese studio led by Visions of Mana director Kenji Ozawa, is entering indie-game publishing with AFANTASIA as its first announced title. Developed by Brazilian independent creator noidnoidnoid, the game is a narrative exploration adventure set in the town of Tempo. It is announced for PC via Steam, but has no release date or price yet.
What is AFANTASIA?
AFANTASIA follows a boy who wakes up in the small town of Tempo with lost memories and the belief that he must go to the city. A mysterious voice called Intrusion guides him as he encounters the memories and regrets of Tempo’s residents. Studio Sasanqua describes the story as an exploration of identity, memory, regret and imagination. The publisher’s announcement calls it a narrative exploration adventure; GameBiz characterizes its format as point-and-click. AUTOMATON WEST also reports that players interact with the environment and solve puzzles.
Who is making and publishing it?
Brazilian independent creator noidnoidnoid is developing AFANTASIA; Studio Sasanqua is publishing it. The announcement marks Studio Sasanqua’s entry into indie-game publishing and names AFANTASIA as its first publishing title. It does not mean the game has shipped.
In GameBiz’s English rendering of his remarks, Studio Sasanqua representative Kenji Ozawa said the company wants to publish games with responsibility for how enjoyable they are and how that enjoyment is conveyed, rather than simply following current trends. He also described the aim as being able to move freely without restraints. The quotation is GameBiz’s English rendering, not a separately verified official English transcript.
