VLC Playlist Ends Instead of Repeating on YouTube Live: Fix the Repeat Setting

Choose repeat-current to replay one VLC item or repeat-all to restart the full playlist. VLC playback, YouTube’s viewer Loop, and VLM broadcast looping use separate controls.

If a VLC playlist stops at the end during a YouTube Live broadcast, set VLC’s playlist repeat mode to match what you want to loop: repeat the current item to replay one video, or repeat all to replay the entire playlist. These are VLC playback modes, distinct from YouTube’s viewer-side Loop control. If you are using VLC’s VideoLAN Manager (VLM) broadcast feature, its broadcast loop setting is separate again.

Choose what should repeat in VLC

VLC exposes three playlist repeat modes: repeat-none, repeat-current, and repeat-all. VideoLAN’s playlist API describes the playlist as handling “the playback order and the repeat mode.” VideoLAN playlist API

  • Repeat-current: repeats the selected item. Use this when one video should play over and over.
  • Repeat-all: repeats the playlist after its final entry. Use this when you want every item to play in order and then start again.
  • Repeat-none: does not repeat when playback reaches the end.

First decide whether you want one video or the full playlist to repeat. Then change VLC’s playback repeat mode accordingly. The exact desktop button or menu path can vary by platform and VLC version; the official source establishes the modes, not one universal sequence of clicks.

Check that you are changing VLC, not YouTube

VLC’s playlist repeat mode controls VLC playback. YouTube’s Loop option is a separate control for a viewer watching a video or playlist in YouTube’s player. YouTube Help says viewers can right-click a video and choose Loop, or use the Loop control for a playlist. YouTube Help: Loop videos or playlists on YouTube

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

If VLC is playing the media being sent to a YouTube Live stream, changing YouTube’s viewer-side Loop setting does not set VLC’s playback mode. Set the repeat mode in the application that is playing the source.

If the stream uses VLC’s VLM broadcast feature

VLC’s VideoLAN Manager (VLM) has a distinct loop option for broadcast configuration. VideoLAN’s VLM documentation labels it “Used for broadcast only” and says that enabling it restarts the media’s input list after the last input finishes. VideoLAN VLM documentation

If you are configuring a VLM broadcast, check the loop option on the broadcast media. Do not assume this is the same control path as repeat-current or repeat-all in VLC’s ordinary desktop playlist.

Identify the VLC version before following click-by-click instructions

The available official documentation defines repeat modes but does not establish one desktop interface path that applies across VLC versions and platforms. To give exact button or menu instructions, identify your operating system and VLC version first. VLC’s official download page lists current releases and platform options. VLC media player downloads

Regardless of the interface, verify the intended scope—one selected item or the whole playlist—and confirm that the playback mode belongs to VLC rather than YouTube or VLM.

What repeat mode does—and does not—fix in a live stream

A repeat setting addresses what VLC does when playback reaches an item or playlist ending. It does not by itself establish that an outgoing YouTube Live broadcast will remain connected. VLC playback looping and the live ingest connection are separate parts of the setup, so do not treat a repeat-mode change as proof that the broadcast will reconnect or stay live if the connection drops.
