The playlist adds music to your broadcast; it does not by itself keep a computer, network connection, or stream running unattended. YouTube also warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be archived, and DVR rewind may be limited.
Add a music playlist in PRISM Live Studio desktop
These steps apply to PRISM Live Studio desktop on Windows and Mac. PRISM’s documented source is called Music Playlist; the mobile app uses a different workflow.
- Open Sources and click the + button.
- Choose Music Playlist and confirm.
- Open Add and Edit, or select the Music icon in the sidebar.
- Add tracks from PRISM’s music catalog or select local music files on your computer. For catalog tracks, choose a genre, preview a track with the headphone icon, select a duration option if one is offered, and click + to add it.
- Drag tracks into the order you want, then click OK.
- In the source properties, choose whether to show track title and artist information on screen. Turning off that display does not stop music playback.
PRISM describes the feature as a way to add background music to a live stream. The controls and labels above are from its desktop Music Playlist guide.
Choose music that is cleared for your stream
A track that plays in PRISM is not automatically cleared for every use on YouTube. Consider both the live broadcast and any recording or archive that may be made from it.

PRISM’s supplied tracks
PRISM says its supplied free music is directly contracted or licensed with musicians for broadcasting and recording, and that these tracks cannot be downloaded and can only be used by streaming them in PRISM. Treat that as guidance for using the tracks within the app, not a blanket guarantee for every territory, monetization arrangement, third-party platform, or use outside PRISM. Local files and music from other providers
You need rights that cover the intended YouTube live use. YouTube’s live-stream terms say creators must have necessary rights, including music licensing rights. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; an unresolved match can interrupt or terminate a broadcast. A license may not prevent interruption if the rights holder has not added your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Check the track’s license and, where applicable, arrange allowlisting before relying on it for a continuous stream. See YouTube’s live-stream terms and copyright guidance for live streams.

YouTube identifies public-domain music and music used with the copyright owner’s permission as copyright-safe options. It recommends the YouTube Audio Library and also notes Creator Music in certain regions and third-party libraries, while advising creators to check each license’s permitted uses. A label such as “free” or “royalty-free,” or a request to provide attribution, does not by itself establish permission for continuous live use and an archived stream. YouTube notes that music labeled “free” can still receive a Content ID claim. Review YouTube’s tips for finding safe music.
Prevent monitoring echo and audio loops
PRISM warns that setting the audio monitoring device to Default Device can make music loop on the broadcast viewing screen. Use one of these remedies:

- Turn mixer monitoring off during the live stream. This is the simpler option, but you may not be able to hear the music yourself.
- Monitor through separate headphones or earphones. Then open Settings > Audio > Advanced and set the monitoring device to something other than Default.
Use PRISM’s audio mixer to adjust or mute individual sources. Its FAQ suggests keeping music or game audio in the green zone, microphone audio in the yellow zone, and transmitted sound out of the red zone. This is PRISM’s visual interface guidance, not a universal loudness standard. The monitoring steps are documented in the Music Playlist guide and PRISM FAQ.
Plan for YouTube’s archive and DVR limits
A continuous live feed and a complete, rewindable 24-hour recording are different things. YouTube Help says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube recommends keeping a local recording as a backup. DVR rewind can also be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. For a long-running broadcast, plan on the possibility that viewers cannot rewind the full stream and that no complete archive will be available; consult YouTube’s current archive guidance and DVR guidance.

Adding a playlist is not a reliability system. The available PRISM guidance documents music setup, not a guarantee of unattended or uninterrupted 24/7 operation. Computer power, the network connection, PRISM, and YouTube can each affect whether a broadcast continues.
