If your vMix stream to YouTube buffers on Airtel broadband, first match vMix’s codec, output resolution and frame rate to YouTube’s bitrate guidance—then test sustained upload from the actual streaming setup. Also check vMix’s network buffer and your computer’s encoding load. The available information cannot identify an Airtel-specific fault without your plan, measured upload and test results.
Why might a vMix YouTube stream buffer on Airtel broadband?
Buffering can result when the outgoing stream is too demanding for the upload connection to sustain, when upload performance varies, or when the streaming computer struggles to encode. Local Wi-Fi, household traffic, router behavior, the route to YouTube, Airtel provisioning and vMix system load are all possible factors; buffering alone does not show which one is responsible.
An advertised broadband speed is not proof that the connection can sustain a particular stream throughout an event. Diagnose from the computer and network arrangement you will actually use, and avoid assuming that Airtel itself is at fault.
Match vMix’s output to YouTube’s bitrate guidance
In vMix, note the output resolution and frame rate, selected video codec or encoder, and configured video bitrate. YouTube’s recommended bitrate depends on the ingestion codec, resolution and frame rate, so use the matching row rather than choosing a target by resolution alone. The H.264 figures below are YouTube Help recommendations; the page’s year is not stated. YouTube’s recommendations, observed on 2026-10-03, may change.

These are encoder recommendations, not evidence that an Airtel plan or a particular connection can reliably sustain the upload. YouTube lists separate AV1/H.265 recommendations, including 14 Mbps for 1080p30 and 17 Mbps for 1080p60; do not apply those figures to an H.264 stream. Consult YouTube’s current guidance for the codec actually selected: YouTube Help: encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions.
Try a lower-demand test configuration
If the current stream is unstable, temporarily lower the output resolution or frame rate and select the matching YouTube bitrate. Test that configuration, then increase one setting at a time while observing upload behavior and YouTube stream health. This isolates whether a less demanding output improves stability; it is not a remote diagnosis.

Test sustained upload from the streaming setup
- Use the intended connection. Run a speed test from the computer that will run vMix, using the same wired or wireless arrangement planned for the stream. YouTube recommends a speed test to check upload bitrate.
- Test at a representative time. If buffering tends to happen at a particular time, include a test around then. A single speed test does not establish that upload will remain stable for the full event.
- Run a representative stream test. Before the event, test with audio and motion similar to the planned programme. Use an appropriate private or unlisted test if that suits the channel and event.
- Watch YouTube stream health and messages. Compare what YouTube reports with vMix’s performance and the upload test. YouTube advises testing before going live; see its live encoder setup guidance.
Check vMix’s Streaming Quality controls
vMix’s Streaming Quality settings include video bitrate, encode size, audio bitrate, encoder settings, network buffer and Strict CBR. Labels and available controls can differ between vMix guide versions, so check the documentation for the release installed on your computer: vMix Streaming Quality settings.
Network buffer
vMix says to increase the Network Buffer when the maximum available network speed is unreliable. The buffer is the maximum amount of time vMix can keep stream data buffered; increasing it can tolerate some speed variation but adds potential latency. Streaming servers and players add their own buffering too. It does not increase upload speed or repair a weak connection or packet loss.

Strict CBR and encode size
Strict CBR attempts to keep streaming speed close to the selected bitrate and may reduce quality. Treat it as a configuration to test, not a general fix for an upload bottleneck. vMix also notes that stream size should match the aspect ratio.
Check whether the computer is struggling to encode
During a representative test, observe CPU and GPU use along with network behavior. vMix says the CPU is used primarily for audio and video compression, as well as recording and streaming. If CPU load is high and an NVIDIA graphics card is installed, vMix suggests trying Use Hardware Encoder to reduce CPU use. This is a trial, not a guarantee across graphics cards, drivers, projects or vMix versions; confirm the result in your own test. See vMix performance recommendations.

Read the results without guessing at the cause
- Lower bitrate or output stabilizes the stream while the computer remains responsive: the upload path is a likely constraint. Repeat tests before treating that as a confirmed diagnosis.
- Upload tests look adequate, but vMix remains sluggish even at reduced output: investigate encoding and system load as well as the network.
- Results vary between tests or times: compare stream health, upload behavior and household network use over time. A single result cannot establish sustained performance.
- No configuration improves the stream: note the exact vMix output, codec, bitrate, stream-health messages and test conditions before asking your ISP or vMix support to investigate. Those details help distinguish a local setup issue from a broadband or route problem.
