To run a prerecorded playlist through vMix to YouTube Live, build the sequence in vMix, copy the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, enter those credentials in vMix’s streaming settings, then test and monitor the broadcast. vMix can automate multiple inputs with its PlayList feature or group media files in a List Input; those are different workflows. A locally operated vMix setup is not unattended just because it is intended to stay on: your computer, vMix, network, and stream all need an operational and recovery plan.
Choose the right vMix playlist workflow
vMix offers two related but distinct ways to work with prerecorded material. Its PlayList feature automates multiple inputs, with per-item start time, duration, and transition. A List Input instead groups multiple media files as one input; it can load video, audio, and M3U playlist files. Choose based on whether you want to schedule and automate separate inputs or treat several files as one input. vMix’s feature overview and training videos describe both.
Do not assume that a playlist repeats forever, transitions without gaps, or recovers from a missing file in a particular way. The behavior may depend on the installed vMix version and settings. Test the full sequence—including what happens at the end of each item and at the end of the list—before relying on it for a long broadcast.
Check that your YouTube channel can go live
Before configuring vMix, open YouTube Studio and go to Go Live / Live Control Room. Create or select the stream you intend to use, and check that live streaming is enabled for the channel. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours; its eligibility guidance also refers to having no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Get the YouTube stream URL and key

In YouTube Studio, open Go Live / Live Control Room and create or select the stream.

Open the stream settings and select an existing key or create one. YouTube permits a custom stream key that can be reused.

Copy both the displayed stream URL (also called the server URL) and the stream key. You need to enter them in vMix; the key alone may not supply the server address.

Keep the key private. Treat it like a password: do not show it in screenshots, public presets, or tutorial captures. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and replace the saved key in vMix. See YouTube’s stream settings guide.

RTMP or RTMPS
YouTube documents RTMPS as RTMP over TLS/SSL. If your installed vMix version supports RTMPS, retrieve the RTMPS URL in Live Control Room and use the URL that matches the protocol selected in vMix. YouTube notes that the ordinary RTMP URL may be shown by default and the RTMPS URL may require opening the lock control. Do not pair an RTMPS setting with an RTMP URL, or vice versa. Build the sequence in vMix

Add the prerecorded video files to vMix as inputs. Check that each file is available to the machine running vMix and plays as expected.

For a multi-input show, configure vMix PlayList to automate the inputs, including the item start times, durations, and transitions you need. For a collection of files intended to be handled as one input, use a List Input instead.

Run the entire intended sequence as a test. Confirm audio, order, transitions, and end-of-item behavior. Verify any repeat or end-of-list behavior in your installed version rather than relying on an assumed loop setting.

vMix documents these features in its feature overview and training videos. UI labels and workflows can differ by version, so use the help for the version you have installed.
Connect vMix to YouTube Live

In vMix, open the streaming destination or settings for YouTube Live if that flow is available in your installed version. Otherwise, configure the streaming destination using the server/URL and stream key supplied by YouTube.

Enter the matching YouTube stream URL and key in the corresponding fields. Check that the URL’s protocol matches the one selected in vMix.

Start the vMix stream and check Live Control Room for the incoming signal and preview. Confirm the selected YouTube stream is the one receiving the feed before making it public.

vMix’s YouTube Live guide describes its YouTube setup and stream-key handoff. Use it alongside the current YouTube Studio instructions; menu names may vary by vMix version.
Test the broadcast and plan for interruptions
Before promoting an always-on channel, test with an unlisted or private stream as appropriate. YouTube recommends checking the Live Control Room preview, confirming event accessibility, testing, and continuously monitoring audio and video. Check the watch page on desktop and mobile, and listen as well as watch: a visible preview does not establish that the audio is correct.
A long-running local setup depends on the computer, vMix, power, network, stream key, and YouTube being available. Decide who will notice a failure and how the stream will be restarted; starting the encoder does not guarantee uninterrupted operation. A UPS may help with a brief local power interruption, but it cannot address a network or platform outage and does not guarantee continuous streaming.

Plan around YouTube’s archive guidance
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That guidance does not establish that longer streams will be saved or that one broadcast can run indefinitely. Check the current YouTube duration and archive guidance, and plan any segmentation or restart behavior around the rules that apply to your stream. See YouTube’s encoder setup guide.

No signal in Live Control Room: Confirm vMix is streaming, that the selected YouTube event is the one you opened, and that the server URL and key were copied correctly. Check that the URL protocol matches the selected RTMP or RTMPS mode.

The key stopped working: Check whether it was reset in Live Control Room. If so, replace the stored key in vMix. If the key may have been exposed, reset it rather than continuing to use it.

The channel is not yet allowed to stream: Check channel eligibility and allow for YouTube’s possible first-time activation delay of up to 24 hours before scheduling a launch.

A video ends and the next item does not behave as expected: Verify the PlayList or List Input configuration and test the end-of-item and end-of-list behavior in your vMix version. Do not presume a particular repeat or gapless-transition behavior.

The broadcast appears live but has the wrong audio or picture: Inspect the Live Control Room preview and the public or unlisted watch page, then check the media inputs and playlist order in vMix. Keep monitoring audio and video after launch.

A long broadcast ends or is not archived as expected: YouTube’s cited automatic-archive guidance covers streams under 12 hours, not indefinite broadcasts or guaranteed archives beyond that. Check current YouTube guidance and review your planned broadcast segmentation.
Copyright and prerecorded content
Using a stream key and a playlist does not grant rights to the videos, music, or other material in the broadcast. Use content you own or are authorized to stream, and check YouTube’s current rules for live content before going live. If the channel’s eligibility or a restriction affects live streaming, resolve that before building a schedule around the broadcast.
