In PlayList, inspect the items’ duration, transition, transition duration, and display type; in List, check Auto Next, Auto First, Loop, and whether any entry is disabled. Then compare vMix’s program output with a local recording and YouTube playback to locate where the black interval begins.
Identify which vMix playback feature you’re using
Separate inputs arranged in the PlayList window are controlled as playlist items. Multiple media files loaded inside one List input are controlled through that input’s List settings. Verify which setup you have before changing transitions or playback options: a setting that applies to one feature will not necessarily affect the other.
Fix a gap between PlayList items
vMix PlayList can automate switching tasks or play multiple videos sequentially. Its items have individual start position, duration, transition, transition duration, and display type settings. Review the item immediately before the black interval and the one after it.
- Open the vMix PlayList window and select the item before the gap. Check its duration and start position, then inspect its transition and transition duration.
- Select the next item and review the same settings, including its display type.
- If an item uses Overlay display type, remember that it appears over the preceding item for its configured duration. Watch the underlying program output during the handoff to see whether it is exposed between items.
- For a diagnostic test, try a cut or a main-program transition instead of the overlay handoff. Test a short sequence and compare the result; do not assume a particular transition is the cause until the output confirms it.
A vMix forum user in June 2021 described a momentary return to the underlying live view while moving between inputs sent to an overlay. The user attributed it to the overlay being cut off before the next input faded in. That is one report about one setup, not proof of a universal vMix defect or a guaranteed fix.

Check a List input’s playback controls
vMix List plays a sequence of video or audio files as one input. Its settings can change whether and how playback advances.
- Auto Next: Check that it is enabled if the next file should start automatically. It is enabled by default.
- Auto First: Confirm its setting matches the behavior you expect when the list reaches its end.
- Loop: Check whether looping is enabled if the sequence should restart after the final entry.
- Disabled entries: Verify that the file at or near the gap has not been disabled.
List can play files back to back and loop without requiring all files to be loaded at once. If you are using an M3U list, check that the expected entries are present and enabled as well.

Find out whether the black interval starts in vMix or YouTube
A black screen in the YouTube player does not, by itself, establish that YouTube caused the gap. Compare outputs to locate the first point where the picture goes black.
- Watch vMix’s program output while the affected items play.
- Make a local recording of the same sequence, if available, and inspect the interval.
- Compare both with the YouTube playback. Allow for a delay between the live output and the player: compare the same moment in the sequence rather than assuming the images are synchronized.
- If the interval is already present in program output or the local recording, focus on the vMix playback feature and its settings. If it appears only in YouTube playback, record that distinction for further diagnosis; the cited vMix guidance does not establish YouTube itself as the cause of playlist gaps.
vMix’s knowledge-base index includes separate topics for blank or flickering video involving display switching, High Input Performance Mode, GT inputs, and Web Browser inputs. Those are distinct symptom areas, not confirmed explanations for a gap between playlist videos. Use a cause-specific fix only when the symptom and setup match.

When the gap persists
Collect enough detail to reproduce the handoff before seeking help. Include the vMix version, whether playback uses PlayList or List, the relevant item settings, how long the black interval lasts, and whether it appears in program output, a local recording, YouTube playback, or more than one of them. Those details help distinguish a transition or list-control issue from another blank-video problem.

The scheduling limitation is stated in vMix’s support article “Does vMix support scheduling?”, last updated January 17, 2025. Sequential looping and scheduled programming at a particular time of day are different capabilities.
