YouTube creators can earn through ads, Shorts, YouTube Premium, memberships, viewer purchases, Shopping, sponsorships, and affiliate relationships. There is no universal amount paid per view: eligibility, audience viewing, ad delivery, revenue-sharing terms, and off-platform agreements all affect income.
How YouTube monetization works
The YouTube Partner Program (YPP) is the route to YouTube’s monetization features. Depending on eligibility and location, creators can earn from Watch Page ads, Shorts Feed ads, YouTube Premium, channel memberships, Shopping, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and Super Thanks. Google pays monetizing creators through AdSense for YouTube. YouTube says its partner agreement does not guarantee how much—or whether—a creator will be paid. YouTube’s earnings overview
These are different business models, not interchangeable rates per view. Ad revenue depends on ads served and the applicable revenue-share terms; memberships and Supers depend on viewer purchases; Shopping depends on product sales or eligible commissions; sponsorships depend on individually negotiated deals.
What eligibility thresholds unlock monetization?
YouTube’s published thresholds, as listed on its official pages accessed October 3, 2026, distinguish an expanded YPP tier from the higher tier for ad and Premium revenue. Availability varies by country, and meeting a threshold does not guarantee acceptance: channels are subject to policy review, and individual features may have additional conditions.

| Tier | Published threshold | What it can unlock |
|---|---|---|
| Expanded YPP | 500 subscribers; at least three valid public uploads in the last 90 days; and either 3,000 qualified public watch hours in the last 12 months or 3 million qualified public Shorts views in the last 90 days. | Earlier access to eligible fan-funding and Shopping features in regions where the expanded program is available. |
| Higher YPP tier | 1,000 subscribers; and either 4,000 qualified public watch hours in the last 12 months or 10 million qualified public Shorts views in the last 90 days. | Eligibility for Watch Page ads, Shorts Feed ads, and YouTube Premium revenue, subject to feature terms and review. |
These are current published thresholds, not permanent guarantees. Check YouTube’s YPP eligibility information for your region and the latest requirements.

Revenue routes and how their terms differ
Watch Page ads and YouTube Premium
Watch Page ads may appear before, during, after, or around eligible public long-form videos and streams. YouTube states that creators who accept the Watch Page Monetization Module receive 55% of net revenue from Watch Page ads. Videos are reviewed, and enabling ads does not guarantee that ads will serve. The Watch Page module also covers a creator’s share of YouTube Premium revenue when Premium members watch eligible long-form content; the applicable agreement and module terms govern that share. YouTube’s earnings overview
Shorts Feed ads
Ads appear between videos in the Shorts Feed. After accepting the Shorts module, creators receive 45% of the revenue allocated to them from the Shorts Creator Pool. This is a share of the creator’s allocation calculation—not 45% of an individual ad shown next to a Short. The calculation basis differs from Watch Page net ad revenue, so the percentages should not be compared as if they were shares of the same pot. YouTube’s earnings overview

Memberships, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and Super Thanks
Channel memberships are recurring monthly payments in exchange for channel perks. Super Chat and Super Stickers are purchases that highlight or decorate messages in eligible live chats; Super Thanks is a one-time purchase that lets viewers support eligible videos or Shorts. Under the Commerce Product Module, YouTube lists a 70% share of net revenue for memberships and these three viewer-funded features. YouTube’s earnings overview

Shopping and merchandise
Shopping can let creators feature their own merchandise store. Eligible creators may also tag third-party products and potentially earn commissions. This is a commerce route, not a platform-wide ad rate: product availability, eligibility, and any commission terms matter. YouTube’s overview does not establish a universal commission schedule. Sponsorships and affiliate relationships
Creators may arrange sponsorships, endorsements, product placements, or affiliate relationships directly with brands or through other arrangements. These deals are separate from YouTube’s standard ad revenue and have individually agreed terms; there is no guaranteed platform rate. YouTube lets creators flag videos containing paid promotion, such as a sponsorship, product placement, or endorsement, and describes a notice to viewers. YouTube’s paid-promotion guidance
Disclosure obligations depend on the applicable law. In the United States, FTC guidance says material connections—including payment or something of value—should be disclosed clearly. For its example of a review channel receiving free products and affiliate commissions, the FTC advises disclosing the affiliate relationship in the video and in the description near the links. Creators elsewhere should check local rules. FTC’s Endorsement Guides: What People Are Asking

Why there is no dependable “pay per view” figure
A view count alone does not identify whether an ad was served, which monetization route applied, or what the creator’s eligible share was. Watch Page ads, Shorts pool allocations, Premium viewing, viewer purchases, Shopping commissions, and brand agreements each use different mechanisms. YouTube expressly says it does not guarantee payment or a particular amount. The official terms cited here do not establish a universal RPM, average creator income, or guaranteed rate per view.

Practical steps to build monetization
- Check regional availability and channel eligibility. Review the current YPP requirements and feature conditions in YouTube Studio and on YouTube’s official eligibility page. Track valid public uploads, qualified public watch hours, and qualified Shorts views against the relevant time windows.
- Apply when eligible and complete review. Reaching a threshold is not automatic approval. Follow the application flow shown in YouTube Studio and resolve any policy issues identified in the review.
- Activate the relevant modules. Once accepted, review the terms for Watch Page ads, Shorts, or Commerce features and enable only the routes that fit your content and audience.
- Develop income beyond ads where it fits. Consider perks viewers would value, eligible Shopping products relevant to your videos, or sponsorships and affiliate relationships that suit your audience. Avoid assuming any route will produce a fixed return.
- Disclose commercial relationships and keep records. Use YouTube’s paid-promotion disclosure where applicable, make legally required disclosures clear to viewers, and keep records of platform payments and outside agreements.
- Check tax obligations locally. Creator earnings may be taxable. Consult your local tax authority or a qualified tax professional for guidance specific to your location and circumstances.
Keeping a YouTube stream live while you earn
Live streams can support eligible monetization features such as Watch Page ads and live-chat purchases, but monetization depends on channel eligibility, the stream, and the feature’s terms. A 24/7 prerecorded-video stream is a separate operational choice; it does not guarantee earnings or monetization approval. YouTube’s reused-content and copyright policies still matter: use content you have rights to use and make sure the channel adds sufficient original value under YouTube’s applicable policies. Do not assume that permission to stream a recording alone guarantees YPP eligibility.
If you run a prerecorded stream yourself, a computer and streaming software must stay connected and running, and interruptions may require manual recovery. Alternatively, StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It does not stream from a camera or to other platforms.
Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, nothing has to stay on at home. Each slot streams your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it runs 24/7 with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month.
Quick Recap
- Upload your recording or create a playlist.
- Add your YouTube stream key once.
- Go live; StreamNeo loops the video from the cloud.
