The Void Egg has two main futures in Stardew Valley. You can sell it or process it as an ingredient-style animal product, or you can incubate it and start a Void Chicken, which produces a Void Egg every day once mature and fed. Which one is worth your time depends on whether you already have Void Chickens and how much coop space you have.
Where the Void Egg comes from
The Stardew Valley Wiki lists several acquisition routes for the Void Egg. The availability of each depends on your progress and farm setup, so check which one applies to you before planning around it.

Choosing a use: hatch, process, or sell
Each use answers a different goal. The table compares them using the base values listed on the wiki. These are in-game values, not real-world prices.

Hatching a Void Chicken
Incubation is the only option here that creates a repeatable income stream. Use it if you want a steady supply of Void Eggs rather than a single item.
- Make sure you have a Big or Deluxe Coop. The wiki says the egg should go into an incubator in one of these coops. The general Egg reference notes that an incubator comes with a Big or Deluxe Coop.
- Place the Void Egg in the incubator.
- Wait for hatching. The wiki lists 9,000 in-game minutes, reduced to 4,500 in-game minutes with the Coopmaster profession.
- Keep the Void Chicken mature and fed. Once it is mature, it produces one Void Egg per day.

Processing into Void Mayonnaise
If you already have Void Chickens producing more eggs than you need, the Mayonnaise Machine is the better outlet. The wiki lists Void Mayonnaise at 275g base, compared with 65g base for the raw egg. That difference matters only if you have spare eggs; a single egg is still better used for incubation if you have no chicken yet.
Selling and specific-use eggs
Selling is the simplest option, but it gives the lowest return of the in-game uses listed. Keep a Void Egg aside if a cooking recipe, tailoring step, quest, or in-game request calls for it, since those uses are tied to specific items and cannot be replaced by a sale.

What the egg is in the game
The in-game description reads: “A jet-black egg with red flecks. It’s warm to the touch.” The wiki also records that a 1.6.2 change made the item poisonous instead of nutritious. That is a historical item change in the wiki’s history, so check the current item page if you plan to eat it or rely on that behaviour.

Checking your setup before you commit
- Coop type: the witch event and incubation both require a Big or Deluxe Coop, and the witch event requires a coop that is not full.
- Profession: the Coopmaster profession halves hatching time, from 9,000 to 4,500 in-game minutes.
- Fish pond population: eggs from a Void Salmon Fish Pond begin once the population reaches 9.
- Relationship status: the Shane rainy-day gift is only possible if you are married to him.
These values come from the Stardew Valley Wiki and reflect the game as the wiki documents it. Game builds change, so confirm mechanics on the wiki’s current item pages if your version behaves differently.
