The 60-second answer
vorbisfile_vs2010_x86_rwdi.dll is a private, 32-bit game DLL, not a Windows system file. It is publicly present in the Call of Juarez: Gunslinger game distribution, a Techland title, and may also occur with other older Techland or ChromeEngine-era games.
The safest repair is to identify the game showing the message and use its launcher to verify or repair the installation. On Steam, open Library, right-click the game, select Properties, choose Installed Files, and click Verify integrity of game files. Steam should redownload the missing or damaged DLL.

Do not download this file from a random DLL website, copy it into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64, or register it with regsvr32. Those actions can install the wrong build and usually do not repair the actual game installation.
What installed this DLL
The filename itself does not identify one exclusive program. The strongest known association is Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, where the file is distributed alongside related Ogg and Vorbis audio libraries and the game’s other local files.
The same filename may appear with another Techland-era game, including Dead Island Riptide, but the exact affected program must be established from the error message and the executable that fails.

The filename also gives useful technical clues:
x86indicates a 32-bit build.vs2010suggests an older Visual C++ compiler and runtime era.vorbisfileindicates an audio decoding library.rwdiappears to be part of the game’s private naming scheme, not a Windows component name.
A 64-bit version of Windows can run a 32-bit game, but that game still needs 32-bit supporting libraries. The architecture of the game matters more than the architecture of Windows.
Common causes
| Cause | What it usually means | Best response |
|---|---|---|
| Missing game file | The file was never installed, deleted, or quarantined | Verify or reinstall the game |
| Corrupt or mismatched files | A mod, unofficial patch, failed update, or copied DLL changed the installation | Remove modifications and verify |
| Missing dependency | The named DLL exists, but one of its own dependencies does not | Repair the x86 Visual C++ runtime and check legacy DirectX |
| Antivirus action | Security software moved or blocked the file | Inspect Protection history, then verify the game |
| Storage or permissions problem | Verification repeatedly fails | Check disk space, library permissions, and drive health |
| Windows component damage | Other Windows applications also malfunction | Run DISM and SFC |
Fix 1: Verify the game through Steam
This is the most likely solution if the error appears when starting Call of Juarez: Gunslinger or another Steam game.
- Open Steam.
- Select Library.
- Right-click the affected game.
- Select Properties.
- Open Installed Files.
- Click Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait for the scan to finish.
- Start the game again from Steam.
Steam compares the local installation with the expected game files and redownloads missing or corrupt files. A successful repair normally means the game starts without the DLL message.
If Steam reports that some files could not be validated, restart Steam and run verification again. Do not replace the file manually with a copy from another game. Even similarly named Vorbis DLLs can belong to different builds and may not be compatible.
If verification keeps failing, check the following:
- Make sure the Steam library drive has free space.
- Close the game, Steam, mod managers, and overlay tools before verifying.
- Temporarily remove or disable mods and unofficial patches.
- Check whether antivirus software is removing the file again.
- Try moving or reinstalling the game into another Steam library if the current library has permission or storage errors.
Fix 2: Repair a non-Steam installation
If the game came from an original DVD, another authorized distributor, or a standalone installer, use that installation source rather than a generic DLL repository.

- Open Settings with Win + I.
- Select Apps.
- Choose Installed apps.
- Locate the affected game.
- Select the three-dot menu.
- Choose Modify, Repair, or Uninstall, if available.
- Run the installer’s Repair option.
- If no repair option exists, uninstall the game.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall the game from the original installer or authorized distributor.
Before uninstalling, back up saved games if they are stored in the game directory. After reinstalling, launch the game once before restoring mods or custom files.
If the original installer includes a Redist, Prerequisites, or similar folder, run the bundled prerequisites after installation. These packages are more likely to match the game than a manually selected runtime from an unrelated source.

Fix 3: Repair the x86 Visual C++ runtime
This step applies when vorbisfile_vs2010_x86_rwdi.dll is present in the game’s executable directory but Windows reports that the “specified module could not be found.” That message can mean a dependency of the named DLL is missing.
The vs2010 text suggests an older Visual C++ dependency, but it does not mean Microsoft’s installer contains this exact game DLL. The Visual C++ package supplies runtime components, while the private Vorbis file must come from the game.
To repair the installed runtime:
- Press Win + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Find Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable (x86).
- Right-click it.
- Select Change.
- Choose Repair.
- Restart Windows.
- Start the game again.
If the x86 package is not listed, obtain the Visual C++ 2010 SP1 x86 redistributable from Microsoft’s Download Center. Choose vcredist_x86.exe, not only the x64 package.
The x86 package is appropriate even on 64-bit Windows because the affected game is a 32-bit application. Installing Visual C++ does not restore vorbisfile_vs2010_x86_rwdi.dll if the game file itself is missing, so verify or reinstall the game as well.

Fix 4: Install legacy DirectX components when indicated
Older games can require optional DirectX components that are not included in the modern Windows DirectX runtime. This is more likely if the error also mentions files such as XAudio, XInput, or D3DX.
First check the game’s installation directory for a bundled prerequisite installer. Look in folders named Redist, DirectX, or Prerequisites. If the game does not include one, use Microsoft’s DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer.
After installation:
- Restart Windows.
- Run Steam verification or the installer repair again.
- Start the game without mods.
Legacy DirectX components do not replace the current DirectX runtime and do not recreate the private Vorbis DLL. Use this step for a broader older-game dependency problem, not as the first response to an isolated missing-file message.

Fix 5: Check antivirus quarantine
Windows Security or another antivirus product may remove a game DLL during installation or after an update.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Click Protection history.
- Review recent detections.
- Look for an entry involving the game directory or the DLL.
- If the file came from the original trusted installation, review the detection details.
- Restore it only if you are confident the installation source is legitimate.
- Run a current scan.
- Verify the game files so the launcher can restore a clean copy.
Restoring a quarantined file can cause antivirus software to detect it again. The safer repair is usually to let Steam or the original installer download the file again, then follow the security product’s instructions if the detection continues.
Do not add the entire game directory to antivirus exclusions before confirming that the game came from a trusted source and the installation has been scanned.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components only when other programs are affected
DISM and SFC repair protected Windows components. They generally do not restore a third-party DLL stored in a game directory, so they are not the first fix for this error.
Run them when other Windows applications also report missing system files or Windows itself is behaving abnormally.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Verify or repair the game again.
A successful result means Windows reports that component repair completed and SFC found no remaining integrity violations, or that it repaired protected files. If the game DLL is still missing afterward, use the game’s installer because SFC does not normally restore private application files.
Repeatedly running SFC and DISM while guessing at the cause can waste time. Outbyte PC Repair can provide a scan that shows what Windows problems it detects, while repair actions require the full version. Reinstalling the affected game remains the definitive fix when its private DLL is missing.

A graphics or chipset driver is not the normal cause of a missing vorbisfile_vs2010_x86_rwdi.dll message. Consider driver work only if the game also crashes with graphics errors, fails after a Windows update, or shows display problems.
To update the graphics driver manually:
- Press Win + X.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the game again.
For a clean manufacturer installation, identify the graphics adapter in Device Manager and download the driver from the GPU manufacturer’s official support page. Avoid driver packages from random download sites.

On 64-bit Windows, System32 primarily contains 64-bit system files and SysWOW64 contains 32-bit system files. These directories are not general-purpose storage for application DLLs. Windows normally searches the application directory for private libraries, which is where this game DLL belongs.
regsvr32 is also normally irrelevant. It is intended for self-registering COM or ActiveX DLLs that provide a DllRegisterServer entry point. A private Vorbis decoding library is not established as a COM component. Running a command such as this will not repair the game:
regsvr32 vorbisfile_vs2010_x86_rwdi.dll
It may instead produce an error saying that the entry point was not found. Only use regsvr32 when the software vendor specifically documents that a particular DLL must be registered.
If the file exists but still will not load
Check the following:
- Confirm the DLL is in the same game directory as the failing executable.
- Confirm the game executable is 32-bit.
- Remove copied DLLs from unrelated games.
- Disable or remove mods and unofficial patches.
- Run Steam verification or the installer repair.
- Repair the x86 Visual C++ runtime.
- Install bundled legacy DirectX components if other DirectX files are missing.
- Check antivirus Protection history.
- If the message says the file is corrupt or “not designed to run on Windows,” reinstall the complete matching game build.
A “specified module could not be found” error can identify a dependency failure rather than a missing named file. If the DLL is present and verification succeeds, record the exact executable path, launcher, Windows version, and complete error text before contacting the game publisher or launcher support.
FAQ
Is vorbisfile_vs2010_x86_rwdi.dll a Windows file?
No. It is a private application DLL associated with older games. It should normally remain in the game’s installation directory.
Does it belong only to Call of Juarez: Gunslinger?
No exclusive ownership should be assumed. It is confirmed in that game’s public distribution, while other Techland-era games may use the same file.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWill Visual C++ 2010 fix the error?
Only if the game DLL is present and a required Visual C++ dependency is missing. It will not recreate the private game DLL.
Should I download the DLL separately?
No. Random DLL websites may provide malware, the wrong build, or the wrong architecture, and a replacement often leaves the real installation problem unresolved. Use Steam verification, the original installer, or the authorized distributor.
Can I use the x64 Visual C++ package?
Use the x86 package for this 32-bit game. A 64-bit Windows installation can still require x86 runtime components.
What if verification repeatedly fails?
Check free disk space, antivirus actions, folder permissions, drive health, and Steam library integrity. Remove mods, restart Steam, and try a clean reinstall if the library remains inconsistent.
