Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 is built around short, goal-driven skate sessions: learn to link tricks into a line, tackle objectives across two Career tours, then keep progressing through New Game+ or switch to score-chasing, exploration, park creation, and multiplayer. This guide explains how those systems fit together and what to expect before you choose a mode or edition.
Start with the tutorial and build a connected trick line
If you are new to the series or returning after a break, begin with the in-game tutorial led by Tony Hawk. PlayStation lists lessons covering ollies and kickflips, vert tricks, grinds, reverts, manuals, and special tricks. The useful progression is from learning individual maneuvers to connecting them into a continuous line: each type of trick adds another way to keep a run going and pursue a session’s goals or score.
The official description presents the controls as easy to learn, but the tutorial is still the clearest starting point because it introduces the game’s trick vocabulary in sequence. Work through its lessons before trying to maximize a Career session; understanding how the trick types fit together matters more than memorizing a long list of moves.
How Career works
Career is organized into two tours of park sessions. The remade parks use streamlined objectives within a two-minute format, so a run is a compact loop: enter a park, decide which goals to pursue, and use the time to complete objectives and build score. Completing objectives also helps earn medals, in-game cash, and gear.

Approach each two-minute session with a plan
- Read the available goals. Pick objectives that make sense for the tricks and routes you can perform confidently.
- Keep the run moving. Use linked tricks to build score while making progress toward the session’s goals.
- Prioritize completion when needed. A high-scoring line is useful, but Career is also about clearing objectives and earning progression rewards.
- Move through the tours. Continue across the two Career tours, then decide whether to take on the tougher New Game+ challenges.
Exact objective locations, collectible positions, and score thresholds are not established in the official material cited here, so use the in-game goal descriptions rather than relying on an assumed universal route.
Choose a mode to match your session
| Mode | Best suited to | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Career | Structured progression | Two tours of short, objective-driven park sessions. |
| Single Sessions | Score-chasing | Individual sessions focused on improving a run or score. |
| Speedruns | Timed play | A mode centered on completing a run quickly. |
| Free Skate | Exploration and practice | Time in a park without the same goal pressure as Career. |
| Multiplayer | Competitive play or skating with others | Includes competitive modes and multiplayer Free Skate. Cross-platform multiplayer supports up to eight skaters. |
Within multiplayer, HAWK is a race to hide and collect letters. It supports up to eight skaters and turns the session into a contest to find the letters rather than simply build the biggest score.

What happens after Career
Completing Career unlocks New Game+, which retains your stat upgrades and raises the difficulty of goals and tricks. It gives progression a second pass rather than resetting you to the same challenge. Activision also highlights Solo Tour, Pro Goals, and Platinum Goals as additional ways to pursue demanding objectives.
Create skaters, build parks, and share them
Create-A-Skater lets you personalize your skater, while the expanded Create-A-Park tools let you design custom parks. The official game site describes support for custom goals, themes, modifiers, and cross-platform sharing. That makes park creation useful both for building a personal practice space and for making challenges that other players can try.
