Warcraft I and Warcraft II Remastered let players switch between original and remastered graphics in real time, while adding interface updates to both games. Warcraft I also gets modern controls, including right-click movement and box selection. Warcraft II keeps multiplayer and legacy custom maps, with additional multiplayer and gameplay changes documented in later patches.

What changed in both remasters?

Blizzard’s Warcraft 30th Anniversary Direct roundup announced fully remastered versions of Warcraft I and Warcraft II. Its defining visual option is a live graphics toggle: “Players will be able to switch between the original graphics and the remastered versions in real time.” Players can compare the two presentations without treating the remaster as a one-way replacement for the original look.

Both games also received interface and usability updates. Blizzard lists tooltips, health bars, a mission selection screen, and increased unit selection. These are shared improvements; the announcement does not describe every control update as applying to both games.

What is specific to Warcraft I?

Warcraft I’s announced control updates include right-click to move, box selection, and faster game speed. Together with the shared interface changes, these are intended to make the older real-time strategy game more convenient to control, without removing the option to use its original graphics.

Those are the platform’s descriptions of the game, not independent performance or visual-quality test results.

What is specific to Warcraft II?

Blizzard said Warcraft II would retain multiplayer functionality and compatibility with legacy custom maps. Later official patch notes add more detail about how its multiplayer and interface evolved after launch.

Version 1.0.1 — December 4, 2024

The opening post in Blizzard’s Warcraft II: Remastered Patch Notes 1.0.2 page contains Version 1.0.1 notes dated December 4, 2024. They document a multiplayer alliance menu with dynamic vision sharing, custom-scenario folder navigation, resource options, password-protected lobbies, countdowns, and region indicators, alongside balance adjustments and bug fixes.

Version 1.0.2 — March 4, 2025

A later post on the same forum page supplies Version 1.0.2 notes dated March 4, 2025. Treat any changes in those notes as patch-specific rather than features guaranteed by the initial announcement. The patch notes page separates those later changes from Blizzard’s original remaster announcement.

How to think about the changes

  • Visuals: The graphics toggle gives players a choice between original and remastered presentation, according to Blizzard’s announcement.
  • Convenience and readability: Shared UI updates apply to both games; the specifically named modern control options belong to Warcraft I.
  • Multiplayer and custom maps: Warcraft II’s announced legacy-map compatibility and multiplayer support matter most to players who want to continue using those modes. Its dated patch notes describe later additions and adjustments.

These distinctions describe announced features and official patch notes, not hands-on testing or a measured comparison of playability.

Blizzard’s anniversary announcement also described a Warcraft Battle Chest bundling Warcraft I, Warcraft II, and Warcraft III: Reforged, and said eligible prior Battle.net purchasers would receive a bundle discount.
