WARDOGS Loadouts Explained: Weapon Roles, Perks, Attachments, and Presets

WARDOGS has no permanent class kit. You buy a complete loadout for each life, and the combination of weapon, ammunition, magazines, protection, medical supplies, and utility determines the job you can perform. Start with your squad’s need and the distance of the expected fight, then make the purchase fit the money you can replace after dying. A powerful rifle that consumes the entire budget can be a worse team choice than a cheaper gun that leaves cash for armor, healing, and the tools your role requires.

The game is a BULKHEAD/Team17 PC Early Access tactical FPS. The official Steam listing describes up to 100 players divided among three teams competing for a randomized Control Zone. Each player begins with $10,000, earns more through actions such as revives, transport, and objective control, and carries cash between matches. Prices, unlocks, attachment behavior, balance, performance, and stability can change as development continues.

How the WARDOGS loadout system works

Every life begins with a purchasing decision rather than a locked class selection. You assemble the items you want, deploy, and lose the kit if that life ends. The next life therefore requires another purchase, so a build has two costs: its initial price and the replacement price you can realistically afford during a match.

Cash also persists between matches. That makes economy management part of combat planning. Teamplay actions generate income, while repeated deaths with expensive equipment can leave you unable to field the protection, ammunition, or medical items that make a role effective. Think of the vendor as a squad-planning screen, not simply a place to buy the weapon with the highest apparent damage.

Role comes from the whole kit

WARDOGS does not require a weapon to belong to a permanent class. The wiki describes unlocked weapons as combinable with medical items, so the same firearm can support different jobs when paired with different supplies and utility. A player carrying a rifle, revive equipment, and extra protection is contributing differently from a player carrying that rifle with long-range optics and information-gathering tools.

Use labels such as Assault, Medic, Support, Recon, Driver, and Pilot as descriptions of jobs, not as official permanent restrictions. Exact role unlocks, prices, and item availability are patch-sensitive.

Choose the squad problem before the weapon

Before opening the vendor, answer two questions: what does the squad need done, and at what range will you do it? Then compare each candidate kit on four axes: its contribution to the objective, its useful engagement distance, its replacement cost after death, and the money left for protection, healing, ammunition, and utility.

Practical role Primary job Range to plan for Budget priorities Common failure
Assault General fighting and Control Zone pressure Usually the distances where your squad contests the zone Replaceable weapon, compatible ammunition, basic protection, and one useful tool Spending on a premium gun and having no money for the next life
Medic Keep teammates alive and complete revives The distance at which the squad is taking casualties Medical supplies first, then a dependable weapon and enough protection to reach downed players Buying a dueling setup that leaves no healing capacity
Support Sustained fire, resupply, or fortification tasks Where prolonged firing or defensive work is expected Ammunition and carry cost balanced against weapon power, plus the support tool Running out of ammunition or becoming too expensive to replace
Recon Provide information and controlled long-range fire Long sightlines selected by the team plan Only the sight and ammunition needed for the actual sightline, with enough protection to survive repositioning Paying for long-range equipment when the objective is fought indoors or at short range
Driver or Pilot Move people and supplies and deliver the team to useful positions Routes and landing or pickup areas, not just personal duel distance Transport and logistics capability, with a weapon that does not undermine movement duties Optimizing for kills while neglecting team delivery

This framework prevents a common mistake: selecting a weapon first and trying to force a role around it. If the squad lacks revives, the Medic purchase is more valuable than another expensive assault rifle. If the team cannot reach the Control Zone safely, transport capability may solve more of the match than a higher damage number.

Budget a complete kit, not a showcase gun

The advertised weapon price is only one part of the purchase. Include compatible ammunition and magazines, protection, healing, utility, and the likely cost of replacing the setup. A useful sequence is:

  1. Set aside the item that makes the role possible: medical supplies for a Medic, transport capability for a Driver or Pilot, or the necessary support tool for a Support player.
  2. Choose a weapon and ammunition combination that works at the planned range and can be bought again after a death.
  3. Buy protection before cosmetic or luxury modifications. Surviving long enough to revive, resupply, scout, or transport teammates has direct team value.
  4. Reserve money for magazines and ammunition. A weapon that cannot be fed through the fight is not a finished loadout.
  5. Add one purposeful utility item rather than several items with overlapping use.
  6. Keep a cheaper fallback kit for low-cash rounds or a streak of deaths.

Cash earned from revives, transport, and objective control can change what is affordable later in a match. Treat that income as uncertain: a plan that works only if every revive succeeds is not a reliable baseline. Conversely, a low-cost kit can preserve enough cash to keep contributing while the team rebuilds.

Weapon roles and ammunition choices

Assault weapons

An Assault build needs a repeatable answer to the fights around the Control Zone. Favor a weapon and ammunition pairing that you can replace several times rather than a setup whose price prevents a second purchase. The right choice depends on the current build and the range your squad actually holds; there is no permanent universal tier list supported by the available evidence.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Medic weapons

A Medic’s firearm is there to reach and protect teammates while carrying out revives, not to consume the entire budget in pursuit of duel performance. Select ammunition and magazines that cover the distances of the current fight, then leave enough money for healing supplies and protection. If the squad moves into a different environment, rebuild the weapon portion while preserving the medical function.

Support weapons

Support builds trade raw handling or mobility for sustained fire, resupply, or fortification work. Weigh ammunition and carry cost against the weapon’s power. A heavy option can be justified when the team needs prolonged fire, but its replacement cost matters more than a short test of damage in a single engagement.

Recon weapons

Recon is an information job as much as a long-range shooting job. Buy a sight and ammunition only when the team has a sightline that makes them useful. If the fight collapses into close quarters, the same investment may become dead weight; a cheaper, more flexible kit can contribute more to the objective.

Driver and Pilot weapons

Transport roles should be judged by whether teammates arrive where they need to be. Choose equipment that lets you defend yourself without turning the loadout into a personal-kill build. Movement, pickup timing, and delivery are the role’s output, so a weapon upgrade that reduces the funds available for logistics can be counterproductive.

Perks: what is and is not established

There is no stable, authoritative list proving that one perk is the best choice in every WARDOGS situation. Early Access balance changes can alter prices, unlock gates, compatibility, and the practical value of an effect. Public guidance therefore supports testing a perk against a defined problem rather than copying a permanent ranking.

A testable perk method

  1. Write down the problem in observable terms, such as losing close fights while carrying medical supplies or failing to reach a revive safely.
  2. Use the same weapon, ammunition, and engagement type for several attempts.
  3. Change only the perk so the result is not confused with a new gun or attachment.
  4. Keep the perk only if it improves the problem without making the complete kit too expensive or removing a role-critical item.
  5. Recheck the choice after a patch, because a balance update can change both the effect and the opportunity cost.

A community stat table can help you form a hypothesis, but it should not be treated as a permanent recommendation. The Season 2 community guide specifically warns that its figures are patch-sensitive and should be checked against the live client.

Attachments: a practical buying workflow

Attachments are useful when they solve a specific handling, sight-picture, or consistency problem. They are not automatically upgrades. Compatibility and slot behavior can change between builds, and an attachment can increase the replacement cost without helping the fights your role actually takes.

  1. Define the job and range. Decide whether the weapon must hold a Control Zone, escort a revive, cover a sightline, or protect a vehicle route.
  2. Confirm compatibility in the current client. Check that the weapon accepts the attachment and note any slot or unlock requirement shown by the live vendor.
  3. Calculate the complete replacement price. Include the attachment, ammunition, magazines, protection, healing, and utility; do not compare attachment prices in isolation.
  4. Buy role essentials first. If the modification forces you to remove medical supplies, protection, or the tool that enables your job, it is a luxury rather than a priority.
  5. Compare the same fight. Use the modified and unmodified versions in comparable situations and watch handling, sight picture, and practical hit consistency rather than relying on a displayed stat alone.
  6. Keep a fallback. Save a cheaper version for repeated deaths, low-cash rounds, or maps where the attachment’s advantage does not appear.

Do not turn a community table into a timeless ranking. Attachment multipliers, recoil behavior, ammunition, armor, and prices remain subject to change while WARDOGS is in Early Access.

Example loadout plans without pretending they are fixed builds

These are decision patterns, not item lists. Exact weapons, prices, and unlocks should be checked in the current client.

Zone-pressure Assault

Start with a replaceable general-purpose weapon and its ammunition. Add basic protection and one utility item that helps the squad enter or hold the zone. If the weapon upgrade removes the money for magazines or a second life, choose the cheaper option.

Revive-focused Medic

Reserve the medical purchase before selecting a gun. Pick a weapon that handles the range where teammates are going down, then add enough protection to approach casualties. A modest attachment is acceptable only after healing and ammunition are covered.

Defensive Support

Budget for sustained ammunition and the support or fortification function. Compare carry and replacement costs with the time the squad expects to defend. If the team is rotating frequently, a lighter and cheaper setup may outperform a stronger stationary one.

Information Recon

Identify the sightline first, then buy the sight and ammunition that serve it. Keep a fallback weapon plan for a push into close quarters. Avoid paying for long-range capability that the objective geometry does not provide.

Transport Driver or Pilot

Fund the movement task before personal weapon improvements. Select a dependable defensive weapon and retain enough cash to replace the kit after a failed route. Your success is measured by safe, timely delivery, not by matching an Assault player’s duel count.

Are preset loadouts available?

As of the reported October 14, 2026 interview, preset loadouts were not available. GamesRadar reported that BULKHEAD CEO Joe Brammer said the developers deliberately withheld them to encourage experimentation. The quoted reason was: “Right now it’s really important to us that players keep trying different weapons rather than settling on one setup.” Brammer said planned loadouts would be unlocked with in-game cash, but no release timing was confirmed.

That approach means manual rebuilding is currently part of learning the game. Practice recognizing the vendor categories, checking compatibility, and remembering which purchases are essential to your role. If presets are added, use them as saved starting points rather than as authoritative answers: verify the live price, unlock state, ammunition, and attachment configuration after every patch.

How Early Access changes should affect your decisions

WARDOGS remains in active development, so balance, performance, and stability are moving targets. A weapon that feels efficient today may become expensive or behave differently after an update. Public guides can also describe an earlier build even when their role advice remains sensible.

  • Prefer principles that survive balance changes: buy for a job, cover the complete kit, and preserve replacement money.
  • Re-evaluate any ranking that claims a permanent best perk, attachment, or weapon without identifying a build and date.

No independently established statistic currently demonstrates a universal attachment win rate, recoil reduction, or perk effectiveness. Those values should not be inferred from a community chart or from one successful match.

Quick troubleshooting checklist

“My gun is strong, but I cannot keep contributing.”

Recalculate the replacement cost, including ammunition and magazines. Move to the fallback kit until teamplay income restores your budget.

“The attachment is unavailable.”

Confirm that the weapon, slot, unlock, and current build support it. Compatibility can change with updates.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

“The Medic build wins duels but misses its purpose.”

Buy medical supplies and protection before expensive weapon modifications, then match the firearm to the range of the revive fight.

“The Recon sight feels useless.”

Check whether the team actually has the sightline that justified it. If the fight is close or mobile, replace it with a cheaper, more flexible setup.

“A guide’s numbers do not match my game.”

Check its season and patch. Community figures are explicitly subject to change, so the live vendor and client behavior take precedence.

What to remember when building any life

  1. Define the team job and engagement range.
  2. Choose compatible weapon and ammunition together.
  3. Reserve funds for protection, healing, magazines, and one purposeful utility item.
  4. Compare total replacement cost, not just duel performance.
  5. Test one perk or attachment change at a time.
  6. Maintain a cheaper fallback and revisit choices after updates.
