Choose R.E.P.O. for small-group cooperative horror built around carrying valuables to an extraction truck. Choose ARC Raiders for one-to-three-player PvPvE scavenging, robot fights and tense exfiltration. Although all three games can appeal to players who like extraction-style risk, WARDOGS is not a conventional extraction shooter. Its defining goal is controlling battlefield zones, not looting a raid and reaching an extraction point.
Is WARDOGS actually an extraction shooter?
No. WARDOGS is an all-out-warfare first-person shooter in Steam Early Access, released on September 10, 2026. Its current advertised match puts 100 players into three teams competing for control of dynamic objective zones on a destructible battlefield. The developer and store description explicitly position it against both battle-royale and extraction-shooter conventions.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
A WARDOGS match is won through objective control and team contribution. Players capture and hold zones, fight opposing teams, use vehicles, move supplies and support teammates. There is no documented raid loop in which a squad searches containers, finds a designated extraction point and permanently banks whatever it carries out.
The confusion comes from its economy. You spend cash on a life and loadout, then earn more through useful play. Dying can therefore make a future life more expensive, while effective objective work can finance better equipment. That creates extraction-like financial pressure without making extraction the match objective.

How WARDOGS works in Early Access
100 players, three teams and moving objectives
The current format is a 100-player battle divided among three teams. Large maps contain dynamic capture zones rather than a single fixed route. The destructible environment, vehicles and changing objective locations make positioning and rotation central decisions: your squad must decide where its presence matters, how to reach the next zone and when to commit resources.
PC Gamer compared the format to the Arma 3 King of the Hill mod and described the overall feel as a midpoint between hardcore Arma and more accessible Battlefield-style combat. That comparison is about scale and objective warfare, not a claim that WARDOGS duplicates either game.
Cash and XP replace raid loot as the pressure system
WARDOGS combines cash and experience progression. Reported rewards include kills, time spent contributing to a capture zone, healing allies and driving. Cash can be spent on guns, helmets, vests, magazines, gadgets and bandages. Your economic choices therefore affect how aggressively you can re-enter the fight and how much capability your team can field.
In a closed-playtest account, PC Gamer reported making a profit in nine of ten lives by standing on the objective, healing and securing occasional kills. That is one reviewer’s experience under a particular test balance, not a promise of profitability for every player or for the final release. The same report cautioned that more expensive progression could push players toward safer behavior.
Communication, logistics and proximity voice
The current Early Access feature set includes online multiplayer, proximity voice chat, vehicles and logistics or support play. Those systems make WARDOGS a strongly social game even though its teams are competing against one another. A player who transports supplies, drives, heals or reinforces a capture effort can contribute without topping the kill count.
Proximity voice also changes how information travels. Nearby allies can coordinate a push or warn of an attack, while separated squads must rely on broader team communication and map awareness. The result is a battlefield-oriented form of cooperation rather than the intimate four-person planning typical of an extraction raid.
What the Early Access roadmap means
BULKHEAD has estimated roughly one to two years in Early Access, while noting that the schedule can change. Planned work includes additional maps, weapons, vehicles, progression systems, seasonal systems, objectives and general polish. Buy WARDOGS now for its current 100-player objective-war core, not for features that have not yet arrived.
Why WARDOGS can still feel extraction-adjacent
PC Gamer described cash as the way WARDOGS borrows some “extraction shooter juice.” The useful comparison is risk, not structure. In an extraction game, the danger is losing what you carried into a raid or what you found inside it when you fail to exfiltrate. In WARDOGS, the immediate exposure is the money tied to your life and equipment, plus the opportunity cost of a failed push.

- Game for Hours in Comfort. Everything about these headphones is about comfort: The deluxe lightweight leatherette ear cups and headband are made to keep pressure off your ears. Ear cups rotate up to 90 degrees for convenience.
That distinction matters in practice. A WARDOGS player asks whether a more expensive vest or gadget is justified for the next objective. An extraction player asks whether the value already in the backpack is worth another fight before leaving. Both situations reward judgment under pressure, but only the latter requires a successful extraction to secure raid loot.
WARDOGS also lacks the small-team PvE rhythm many players associate with extraction games. Its advertised threats are the other two player teams, not a separate roster of monsters or robots guarding loot rooms. The game is about winning territory and supporting a war effort at scale.
What R.E.P.O. offers instead
A small co-op horror loop
R.E.P.O. entered Steam Early Access on February 26, 2025, and supports groups of up to six. It is an online cooperative survival-horror game, so the people beside you are teammates rather than rival squads competing for the same objective.

Your group searches for valuable objects, handles them carefully and carries them to extraction points. Physical treatment matters because damaging an object reduces its value. The team must meet a quota and then reach the truck escape, turning every trip through a dangerous area into a choice between securing enough value and risking another haul.
Progression between levels
Successful earnings become SURPLUS. Between levels, players can spend it on permanent upgrades, weapons, explosives, tools, health and energy. That creates a clear retrieve-then-escape economy: the object is valuable because it can fund future capability, and the run is incomplete until the group gets out.
Who should choose it
R.E.P.O. is the strongest fit for friends who want a compact co-op session, verbal coordination and PvE pressure. The physical-object handling gives every player a practical job: one person can carry, another can scout, and the group can plan how to reach the truck without destroying the quota. Its horror and often comic tension come from protecting fragile valuables while monsters disrupt the plan.
What ARC Raiders offers instead
One-to-three-player PvPvE extraction
ARC Raiders is a third-person extraction shooter for one to three players on Windows PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Its structure is much closer to the conventional extraction format than WARDOGS: squads scavenge parts and weapons, complete objectives, survive hostile robots and contend with human raiders before returning to the underground base Speranza.

A more approachable extraction experience
A review characterized ARC Raiders as faster and more approachable than Escape from Tarkov while retaining the emotional risk of reaching exfiltration. That makes it a natural choice for players who want modern squad extraction without WARDOGS’s 100-player objective-war scale.
Who should choose it
Pick ARC Raiders if your group wants scavenging, exfiltration and the possibility of human conflict in the same raid. Its one-to-three-player limit suits a duo or trio that wants each member’s decisions to matter. It is less suitable for a six-person group that wants everyone in one session, or for players who prefer a guaranteed PvE-only environment.

Which game fits your group?
Choose WARDOGS for Battlefield-scale objective warfare
- You want a match measured in territory, reinforcements and team momentum rather than backpack value.
- You enjoy vehicles, support roles, logistics and proximity communication.
- Your group is larger than a typical extraction squad, or you like being one part of a much bigger operation.
- You want an economy that affects your next life but do not require a dedicated extraction point.
WARDOGS is the answer to “What feels a little like extraction risk but plays like a large objective battle?” It gives you financial consequences and loadout decisions without abandoning the front-line war.
Choose R.E.P.O. for six-player co-op and physical loot
- Your regular group can reach as many as six players and wants everyone on the same side.
- You prefer monsters and environmental danger to direct competition from other squads.
- You like a concrete retrieve, protect, quota and escape sequence.
- You want upgrades funded by what the team physically carries out.
R.E.P.O. is the clearest match for a group asking for “co-op extraction” in the literal sense. The objects, quota and truck make the extraction requirement visible every minute of a run.
Choose ARC Raiders for a duo or trio seeking PvPvE raids
- Your ideal session has one to three players, scavenged gear and a meaningful exfiltration decision.
- You want computer-controlled robots and the possibility of hostile human raiders.
- You prefer third-person combat and a smaller, more approachable extraction format.
- You want to return to a persistent underground base after a successful raid.
ARC Raiders occupies the middle ground between the other two: it preserves the extraction loop that WARDOGS omits, while giving you PvE enemies in addition to player conflict.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How the risk models differ
WARDOGS: risk the next life’s budget
Your decision is primarily economic and tactical. Spending more can improve a push, but losing an expensive setup may reduce what you can afford afterward. Because rewards include objective presence, healing and driving, a coordinated support player can help the team and the bankroll without constantly hunting kills.
R.E.P.O.: risk the value of the haul
The danger is attached to the objects themselves. Mishandling can reduce their worth, and a team that has not met its quota has a reason to keep searching. Reaching the truck converts careful carrying into SURPLUS and future upgrades; failing before that point denies the run’s intended payoff.

ARC Raiders: risk the raid at exfiltration
Scavenged parts and weapons matter only if the squad survives the route home. Robots can pressure movement and human raiders can contest the same opportunities. The emotional peak is the extraction decision: continue for more value or leave with what you have.

What “co-op” means in each game
The word co-op describes these games differently. R.E.P.O. is cooperative by design: the group shares the PvE objective and works together to meet a quota. ARC Raiders is cooperative squad play inside a PvPvE environment, so your teammates cooperate while other players may attack. WARDOGS is team-based PvP; the three teams coordinate internally, but the overall match is competitive warfare rather than co-op extraction.
That distinction should shape your voice-chat expectations. R.E.P.O. rewards constant spoken coordination while carrying and planning. ARC Raiders requires concise callouts about robots, raiders, loot and routes. WARDOGS benefits from communication across a much larger force, with proximity voice and logistics making local coordination especially valuable.
Early Access considerations before you buy
WARDOGS is currently a playable core, not a finished feature set
The Early Access description says the current version is fully playable and represents the core vision. That core is the 100-player, three-team battlefield with dynamic objectives, vehicles, economy, progression and support play. The developer expects roughly one to two years in Early Access, but the estimate can change as development continues.
Future plans for more maps, weapons, vehicles, progression, seasonal systems, objectives and polish are reasons to follow development, not features you should assume are already present. Players who dislike balance changes or unfinished systems should account for that uncertainty.
R.E.P.O. and ARC Raiders answer different tolerance questions
R.E.P.O.’s Early Access appeal is its repeatable co-op loop: randomized spaces, monsters, object handling, quotas and permanent upgrades. ARC Raiders’ appeal is its compact PvPvE extraction structure and platform availability on Windows PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Neither should be evaluated by WARDOGS’s match scale, because they are solving different social and mechanical problems.
There is no reliable basis here for current concurrent-player counts, regional pricing, matchmaking wait times or refund rates for any of the three. Those variables can change quickly and should not be used as assumed evidence for a purchase decision.
A quick decision checklist
- Count your regular squad. Six friends point toward R.E.P.O.; one to three toward ARC Raiders; a larger community or comfort with public-team warfare points toward WARDOGS.
- Define the objective you want. Choose zone control for WARDOGS, quota-and-truck extraction for R.E.P.O. or scavenging-and-exfiltration for ARC Raiders.
- Decide whether you want PvE, PvP or PvPvE. R.E.P.O. centers on cooperative monsters, WARDOGS on player teams fighting for territory and ARC Raiders on robots plus human raiders.
- Identify what you want to lose. WARDOGS puts cash and purchased equipment at stake; R.E.P.O. puts the value of handled objects at stake; ARC Raiders puts the raid’s scavenged gains at stake if you fail to exfiltrate.
- Match the communication style. Pick R.E.P.O. for close verbal teamwork, ARC Raiders for small-squad callouts or WARDOGS for proximity voice, logistics and broad team coordination.
The bottom line for each player type
For the large-scale warfare fan: WARDOGS is the distinctive choice. It delivers 100-player, three-team objective combat and an economy that borrows tension from extraction games without becoming one.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
For the six-player friend group: R.E.P.O. is the cleanest fit. Its entire loop is cooperative handling, quota management and truck extraction under monster pressure.
For the duo or trio: ARC Raiders is the focused option. It combines scavenging, robot threats, human raiders and exfiltration in a smaller PvPvE package.
So the answer is not that one Early Access game replaces the others. WARDOGS is for teams that want to win a war; R.E.P.O. is for friends trying to carry a haul out alive; ARC Raiders is for a small squad deciding whether one more find is worth the trip home.
