Spoilers ahead: this article discusses the ending and epilogue system in Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, including how player choices and companion outcomes can be reflected after the story.
The game’s epilogue is not just one verdict on the main story: it can also present slides about companions, colonies, and named characters. Those outcomes depend on choices made during the campaign, and Owlcat has revised epilogue behavior in multiple patches. This is a spoiler-aware overview, not a verified unlock guide: the available sources do not establish the exact conditions for individual ending routes or slides.

What the ending and epilogue cover
Owlcat describes Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader as a cRPG set in the Koronus Expanse. At the end of a playthrough, the game can reflect the player’s story through a main outcome as well as epilogue slides about companions, colonies, and other characters. These are related but distinct: a broad outcome for the Lord Captain does not, by itself, tell you what happened to every companion or settlement.
The available official patch notes confirm that slides can depend on prior choices and that some have previously failed to appear or displayed consequences inconsistent with those choices. They do not provide a complete list of ending branches, slide triggers, or unlock requirements. Treat any precise route checklist as version-specific unless it has been checked against the game build you are playing.
#1 Best Overall
- The new Rulebook focuses on the Gilead System, allowing you to tell your own stories in a society beset by daemonic invasion and internal corruption
- Character Creation has been streamlined, with a focus on Frameworks. With so many choices of who and what you can play, you’ll want to decide the focus of your game early
- The Factions Chapter is a primer on life in the 41st Millennium, detailing each of the organisations vying for supremacy in the Warp-torn Gilead System

Why older ending guides may not match your game
Owlcat’s post-launch patches changed both epilogue content and its presentation. The official notes document these milestones:
| Date and version | What Owlcat reported |
|---|---|
| February 19, 2024 — patch 1.1.28 | Fixed multiple epilogue inconsistencies and incorrectly displayed slides, added a Marazhai epilogue slide, and corrected Eufrates II epilogues. Official 1.1.28 notes. |
| December 10, 2024 — patch 1.3.0.47 | Made Dogmatic, Heretical, and Iconoclast conviction points more available in many Act III and Act IV dialogue options and projects. The notes also report fixes for Marazhai and Yrliet slides not appearing in some cases, the final choice failing to register, and slides that contradicted player choices. Official 1.3.0.47 notes. |
| July 2, 2026 — reported update 1.6.1.493 | A secondary report says the update added several epilogues and improved existing ones. The exact additions are not established here, so this is not a complete changelog. HappyGamer’s July 2026 report. |
The dated 1.1.28 and 1.3 notes are official; the later 1.6.1.493 claim comes from secondary coverage and should not be treated as a verified inventory of new slides. For a current route guide, check the patch notes for the exact game version and relevant DLC context rather than assuming a launch-era guide still describes the present build.
How choices and conviction relate to epilogues
Dogmatic, Heretical, and Iconoclast are conviction paths tracked through choices and other opportunities in the campaign. Owlcat’s 1.3 notes specifically say conviction points became more available in many Act III and Act IV dialogue choices and projects. That confirms the availability of points changed; it does not establish that a particular conviction level guarantees a specific ending or epilogue slide.
Rank #2
For a spoiler-free run, make decisions in character and keep saves before major story choices if you want the option to revisit them. For a completion-focused run, record the game version, conviction choices, major decisions, companion quest states, and colony outcomes as you play. The official notes show why that detail matters, but they do not publish a full condition checklist.

- It can tell you: endings are choice-dependent; the epilogue may cover the main outcome alongside companion, colony, and NPC fates; and patches have corrected or added epilogue content.
- It cannot tell you: the exact ending count, the complete route conditions, which choice guarantees a given slide, or every current companion outcome. Those details are not established by the sources cited here.
- For reliable specifics: use a walkthrough that identifies the game version and has verified each condition in that build. Be especially cautious with older advice about conviction points and slides reported as missing or inconsistent in earlier versions.
