Gene-Seed locations in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 are possible spawn points, not guaranteed stops: the community route guide lists candidates for 12 Operations, and advises checking the other documented spots if the item is not at the first one. The list does not cover Purgation, the Operation added in Patch 13, so its Gene-Seed locations remain unverified here.
How to find a Gene-Seed on your run
Use the current objective, landmarks, and route in your mission to match the community guide’s candidate locations. Its instructions point to visible features such as rooms, crates, corridors, and terrain. If a candidate is empty, continue to the other possible locations listed for that Operation; the guide does not promise that the first one you check will contain the item. Mission branches can change which candidates apply.
The primary location reference is HardcoreAku’s Steam guide, updated February 18, 2026. It covers the 12 Operations below. Use it alongside the current route and objectives shown in your game, since mission content can change with updates.
Gene-Seed locations by Operation
Open the entry for your current Operation and match its candidate locations to the landmarks and route in your run. The guide numbers candidates within each mission; those numbers identify spots to inspect, not a guarantee that every spot will be available on every route.

| Operation | Route detail to keep in mind |
|---|---|
| Inferno | Follow the candidate landmarks in the guide for your current objective. |
| Decapitation | Follow the candidate landmarks in the guide for your current objective. |
| Vox Liberatis | Follow the candidate landmarks in the guide for your current objective. |
| Reliquary | Follow the candidate landmarks in the guide for your current objective. |
| Fall of Atreus | Follow the candidate landmarks in the guide for your current objective. |
| Ballistic Engine | Follow the candidate landmarks in the guide for your current objective. |
| Termination | Follow the candidate landmarks in the guide for your current objective. |
| Obelisk | Later candidates depend on the dark-section branch: the Servo-skull route proceeds straight ahead, while the Console route goes right. Check the candidates for your branch rather than assuming every later numbered spot is possible in one run. |
| Exfiltration | One early candidate is in the second open area with a large sunken building: check the smaller structure on the left, then the crate against a pipe at the top of the collapsed walkway. |
| Vortex | One early candidate is after the first drop: go through two destroyed walls on the left and check the crate beside large red containers. |
| Reclamation | The guide warns that the Wrath of Espandor section can be confusing and that many images are doubled up. Match the text and landmarks to your route. |
| Disruption | The guide identifies its location footage as captured on the Public Test Server; treat those visuals as route references, not confirmed footage of the current live build. |
For the complete numbered candidate list and its landmark descriptions, consult the Steam location guide. The route notes above are orientation examples and caveats, not a substitute for the individual entries.
Does the Gene-Seed spawn in every mission?
The community guide says a Gene-Seed is present in every mission, regardless of difficulty, but can appear at one of several possible locations. This is a guide’s description of the mechanic, not an official location guarantee for every current Operation.

What does carrying the Gene-Seed do?
The guide says the Gene-Seed uses the second item slot, like a Guardian Relic, and gives no immediate benefit. Its stated payoff is additional team XP if the carrier keeps it through successful mission completion. The guide author estimates the bonus at 20–30%, while noting that the exact percentage is unknown; treat that range as an estimate, not an independently verified or official game statistic.

Focus Entertainment’s Patch 13 notes introduce Purgation, set at a Mechanicus facility in the Kadaku swamps. The official material cited here does not give Gene-Seed spawn instructions, and the community guide does not include the Operation, so Purgation remains unverified in this location list.

The game is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC, according to Focus Entertainment. In July 2026, Warhammer Community described a Thousand Sons sorcerer who may appear in Operations where the Thousand Sons have a foothold. That update context is a reason to match older route documentation to the mission content in your current game version, not evidence that any particular Gene-Seed location has changed.
